Darkness
A gloved hand slowly met with a young man's brow. Light blue hues revealing themselves as eyelids rolled up. At first it took time for the boy's eyes to adjust, he squinted as he looked out into the darkness. All was not lost though, below there was a source of light. The light blue hue that melded with the light caused the boy to jump up to his feet with surprise. "Where am I...?" The first words spoken by our protagonist; Sora were spoken softly. Making sure to look around him carefully, he'd confirm that nobody was there. Then another look to the ground below would reveal some interesting details. The floor was made of glass, just like the ones prestine glass of many modern day churches. Emblazed within a golden circle, the king posed with his keyblade out. Miniture portraits circled around him. "Goofy, Donald, Rikui, Kairi...me?" Sora spoke aloud as he looked to each one. His memory was still a bit hazy as he held his right hand to the back of his head. "Wasn't I inside the cave earlier?"
Yes, the very cave where he and Kairi had drew their picture together. As a surprise for Kairi, he'd snuck over after finishing his homework. He was planning to revamp that image entirely and use it in his efforts to... well you know, ask her out. Constantly teased by Tidus, Riku and the others, he hadn't made it around to asking her out yet. If he remained within this place, then he'd never get that chance either. Looking out into the distance now, a white staircase made itself presence in a glimmour of sparkle and light. Considering the circumstances, there was no place else to go but it seemed someone had beaten him to it. That someone was his younger self, familiar words surfacing in his mind. "I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Like is any of this for real? Or not?"
There wasn't any time to waste, "Wait up!" Sora called out as he began to run after the after image of his younger self.
Tak, Tak, Tak!
The sounds of those all too familiar boots making their way up the stairs could be heard in echo. One set belonging to the younger Sora, whom was wearing yellow boots and the other belonging to Sora with his black and yellow boots. It seemed the more he ran, the more the darkness began to move away, a powerful white light taking its place. Now as he was running, on his left was Donald and on his right was Goofy. "Donald! Goofy! What are you guys doing here?" He stated, mostly with warm enthusiasm and a bit of surprise. "Oh you know, the usual." Donald said with a confident smirk. "We're here to help you on your journey of course. Hyuck!" Goofy added. A smile was plastered to his face now as the white light vanished revealing the trio to be walking down that familiar path, a path that lead to a crossroad. "I don't know what's happening you guys but it's good to see you again. Do you guys know where we're heading?"
"We'll just figure it out as we go--" Goofy was interrupted as a group of heartless blocked off their path. Getting into team formation, Sora made a diagonal slash movement with his right hand. His knees bending slightly as his keyblade, Oathkeeper emerged with a flash of light. There wasn't anytime to waste either, cause just up ahead was younger Sora without a keyblade and seemingly in trouble. Tearing a path through the heartless, Sora took the lead. It was only a group of Shadows, nothing he couldn't handle. With a loud yelp from Donald, most of the shadows were cleared. He'd used Thundaga to get rid of them, just like they did when they ran up those long flight of glass stairs. Before he could reach out to his younger self, everything around him changed. They were standing on an unusual pillar. The floor was a light frosty blue with three grey pedastols. One pedastol was to the left, one in the middle, and the last one on the right. Each pedastol had a familiar weapon, yes the same weapons he saw in his dream so long ago that started his journey.
There was the sword, the shield, and the staff. He watched as his younger self headed over to the sword. "I remember, I wanted to be strong just like Riku. So I chose the path of the warrior." he chuckled to himself as Donald and Goofy stood on either side. He then watched as his younger self chose to abandon the shield. To his left, Donald gave a sly look to Goofy whom was oblivious to the symbolism of the situation. "So you're saying that we're in your memories Sora?" Goofy pondered aloud. "Yeah... but why?" The trio looked to each other with a confused look. As if insync, which the trio usually were in these times; they all shrugged their shoulders. A familiar laugh from Donald got the whole gang laughing for a bit. Then it was time to be serious again, cause it now dawned on our hero that if everything was repeating then why was there changes? What should have been a deadly Dark side emerging from the darkness was now that of a golden knight. The one they fought when they headed to the corner stone of light.
"What the..." Sora stammered as he withdrew his weapon once more. something was definitely wrong but there wasn't time to dwell on that now! It was action time and getting to work, he swerved left then right, his keyblade extended out. This time he was wielding the Oblivion keyblade. Jumping into the air he brought the keyblade into a vertical position to allow for a full vertical slash. This action was blocked by the knight while Goofy charged in from the enemy's right side. They didn't need to worry about their surroundings which meant the team could go all out, until said surroundings became that of a village. The cries of young children was rampant as the village itself was burning.
"What is this place?" Sora called out as he moved back from the slash. Their opponent was still there but with one look around it was clear what needed to be done. "Come on, we have to help everyone first." Sora said to his friends before he turned to look at the knight who seemed to vanish into golden sparkles. "W-wait huh?" Before Sora could grasp what just happened he was pulled off by Goofy and Donald. The trio had did quite a bit of running around in their attempts to help everyone and by the end of it rested under a tree just outside the village. "I'm exhausted." Donald stated as a matter of fact. Sora and Goofy couldn't disagree with him.
"I just don't understand, is this all a dream?" No sooner did Goofy and Donald stretch the young man's cheeks.
Silence
"Ouch! Okay...maybe this isn't a dream---"When all is said and done, light blue hues awaken suddenly to the darkness. There's a stinging sensation from his right cheek, to which he realizes he has a star shaped paopu fruit in his hands. "So it was a dream." His words echoed around him as a small source of light shines from afar. Donald's not to his left, Goofy is not to his right. It's just Sora now, all alone. Running as fast as he can he soon steps out onto the sand. The moonlight had provided it's beautiful rays to help him out from the cave. As he looks up he can see a shooting star fly by to the left. At first there's one shooting star, then another as he begins to see a small meteor shower in the night sky. Stretching a bit to get out some minor cramps from sleeping uncomfortably in the cave, he soon rests both his hands behind his head. With each shooting star, he's reminded of his adventures to other worlds, as well as the friends in them.
"Nothing's changed here, I wonder if everything is the same for you guys; Donald, Goofy." Taking off into a light jog, he heads for the bridge leading to the small elevated area on the island. The view would be much better from there, watching as the waves crashed into the little island. Riku enjoyed glancing out into the horizon on that spot, he almost had to wonder if that was his favourite spot on the island. Resting against one of the long fallen trunks, he felt at ease. Good memories of the friends he made filled his heart once more. With life being so normal now and getting back into the proper swing of things, he didn't always have moments like these. When he did, being alone wasn't so scary, you know?
"I bet Mulan is having a great time now, I wonder if she's watching the stars with Mushuu and Shang? I know Simba would be watching them if he had the chance, with Nala of course." Leaning back a little, he continued to think about his friends in the Pride Lands. "I wonder if Timon and Pumba are still ducking from carnivores, haha poor guys. They're probably doing alright. Hakuna Mattata. Oh and then there's Simba and Nala. I wonder what it's like being King? Does that make Nala Simba's Queen?" A warm smile came over him after that thought."I know if I were King, Riku would be Captain of the guards, with Tidus and Waka at his side. That'd make Kairi...well I, she... that is..." Sora let out a sigh, not really being able to finish his thoughts on the matter. One thing was conclusive though: "Summer vacation's coming up, I should visit them and this time I'll take Kairi with me." Just then, a sudden flash of Donald mentioning something made the boy flush. Moving his hands to his temples, he couldn't help but shake his head. A weak attempt at getting the mental images out of his mind.
Oh well, there wasn't much more time to reflect out here. The islands were getting a bit cooler now and considering he fell asleep in the cave, it was time to make his way home. Before he went though, he made a quiet promise on the one last star. "I'll visit everyone soon." Little did he realize it was going to be a bit sooner than he thought.
