Appearance:

Physical Features: She is about 5 feet, 9 inches without her boots; she weighs roughly 130 pounds and appears relatively fit in her clothing and given what she did for a living. Her hair is long, reaching her mid-back and dyed black with red highlights at the tips. Along the flesh of her arms, she has tattoos painted up and down; there are six on each arm. Each tattoo represents one of the twelve Zodiacs, whose power was borrowed to limit the spread of darkness in her body and mind.

Facial Features: Her eyes are oval-shaped; her irises are colored with crimson red. Her skin was cream-colored, but is now tanned from her training in the harsh sun of her homeworld. Across her right cheek, there is a scar from a whip which was the weapon of her dearly beloved brother; it is the one place the darkness inside her refuses to touch so the wound will heal normally.

Clothing: Mariae wears a black tank top with a design of a cross in the front of her shirt, black Capri-length pants (reaches up to her knees) and comfortable ankle-high, heeled boots. The cross on her shirt itself is a symbol of the Royal Guard. The design of her outfit was made for quick and easy movement so the material appears to be almost skin-tight.

Miscellaneous Items/Articles: On her dangling earrings, she has two black feathers attached; these are used in battle for one of her abilities since they were made from her dark gift. Around her neck, Mariae wears a chain necklace with no pendant; it appears to be heavy, but in fact, it is quick light in weight. The sheath of her weapon is strapped to her back so all Mariae has to do is reach and unsheathe her weapon.

Personality:

Resolve: Mariae is looking for her twin brother, Michaeli, who has been missing since her world was destroyed by its own harbinger, its crown princess Amiel. She also wishes to find the harbinger, which Michaeli took along with him.

Pursuit: Mariae is plagued with dark power while her brother is co-existed with powers of light. She needs him to help her balance her own power so then, it will not corrupt her completely.

Fears: She is afraid of creating a dual-personality when her dark power takes over her completely. Mariae also fears the death of her brother, who has the power to help her balance the darkness she possesses.

Hopes: She hopes to find people she can trust with her secret about her dark power without them being awkward or hostile about it; Mariae also wishes to find her brother safe and sound with a calm Princess Amiel. She really wishes there not to be a fight between herself and what she hopes to find.

Hobbies: Mariae usually trains to make sure she’s in tip-top shape. Or she would be found reading.


Public Personality/Private Personality: In public, Mariae tends to think before she acts, carefully observing for any signs of hostility or affability. She carefully chooses her words instead of saying how she feels; she occasionally doesn’t speak until spoken to. She usually brings out the bad points of any plan before mentioning of the good points. Mariae always seems to be masking her good emotions, safeguarding any signs of any type weakness when she speaks. When she is alone, her guard drops almost immediately and she is free to show any emotion she is feeling. She speaks her mind and is practically an open book. All she does in public is a perfected act, an instinct from her days on the Royal Guard.

Weapon Name: Lethe (Forgetfulness)

Weapon Description: Lethe is a long-sword with a crystal blade instead of iron. On the blade’s tip, there is a red bloodstain that refuses to wash off. Across the crystal, the name Lethe is carved in as well as etchings of both angels and their demonic counterparts.

Unique Notes: Lethe was originally a regular iron long-sword used by Mariae’s mother. It was normal until the day Mariae’s mother died and when the iron blade broke. Lethe was repaired on her mother’s death bed, but the cost was her death. The soul of Mariae’s mother became the crystal, which replaced the iron. Mariae wears the blade in its sheath, which is then strapped onto her back.

Sub Abilities:

- Fallen - To Mariae, it is a fairly simple manipulation of something she already has. She removes one of the feathers she has attached to her dangling earrings and tossing it into the air. Mariae then points to where she wants it to go; it levitates for a spilt second before heading off like a dart. Then, the feather explodes when it reaches the target, giving off a spark of the potential power Mariae has under her sleeve.

- Dusk Spell - Yet another simple ability; since the gift of darkness inhabits her body, Mariae is able to manipulate it by shooting beams. Think of typical witches with their finger-pointing and their spell-casting. The beams are be called by either Mariae pointing or snapping her fingers.

- Eclipse - Mariae uses her blade Lethe for this one. At first, the crystal blade shines with a bright light to trigger the darkness inside her. The shadows gather, eclipsing the shine and when she slashes outward, a dark aura slices the air. The potency of the attack is determined by how intense the light was and the strength of the darkness beckoned by Lethe’s spark.

History:

Mariae Zodia Nyx was born in the world of Kismet, along with her twin brother, Michaeli Aegle Nyx. Michaeli and Mariae were trained in the art of fighting since the day they could walk. However, since the genesis of their world, their family was gifted with great powers. As their Nyx heirs of the new generation, the twins were gifted with the ultimate, opposing elements; Mariae was granted the power of darkness while her brother received the gift of light. The twins were ten years old then.

By the time they were fourteen, they were chosen to replace the senior members of Royal Guard protecting the current ruler and his heirs, including the Princess Amiel Ipswich and her younger brother Kieran. They assumed the roles when they were sixteen and by that time, forbidden love spawned. Michaeli was in love with Amiel and she with him; only Mariae and Kieran were aware of the secret. Only Kieran protested against the relationship; the prince had asked Mariae for help to separate the couple but the attempt was sabotaged by Michaeli, who had caught wind of it. Kieran fell silent at the advice of Mariae, who remained out of the situation. She had developed her own problem: the element of darkness she had gifted with had spread throughout her body. This occurred since Michaeli went off his own way; his light had always balanced her power of darkness.

Mariae went to the High Priestess of Kismet’s Guardian Deities in the area to prevent the power form taking over her body. The High Priestess cast a charm on the girl, which is painted onto her skin on her arms in the form of a tattooed design with the twelve Zodiac (to match her middle name Zodia). Before she left, she had been warned to keep Michaeli from Princess Amiel, who was the prophesized Harbinger of the World’s End. Of course, Mariae did what she could until she confronted the both of them, causing the Nyx twins to argue.

The argument made Amiel upset and triggered untold power to awaken. Amiel’s power unleashed the end of the world, something Mariae sought to prevent. During the destruction, Mariae and Michaeli fought; the sister lost. After delivering a final blow from his whip (which Mariae deviously avoided, but was left with a scar on her face), Michaeli fled with Amiel, leaving Kismet to its fate. Mariae’s original blade was destroyed and she returned to her family home to find her mother, dying and ready to give the family heirloom to her. The blade Lethe was in her mother’s hands broken until the moment Semele Nyx took her last breath. Semele sacrificed her dying soul to remake the blade, which became a white crystal instead of regular iron. It was then when Kieran found her again, entrusting her with a single mission: to find Amiel and Michaeli. Both Kieran and Mariae left Kismet, seeing there was nothing they could do.

Kieran, fearing his sister’s power, sought to kill his sister if she refused to change and leave her lover; he had gotten separated from Mariae when they were traveling via magical means. But when she traveled alone, she learned that her magical tattoo only slowed the darkness from spreading, it would not prevent it all together. The only time it was stop spreading was when she was with Michaeli. So her current mission is to search for her brother in order to stop the darkness from completely taking over her body and mind. When she had made up her mind, she landed in the current ring of worlds.
