Audition post (400 words):
Clank clank clank clank clank clank. The sound of metal footsteps running this way could be heard by all. Unfortunately there was only one person here. His name was Reks. After a few moments, three Soldier Heartless, and two Archadian soldiers stood before him.
"Man, I wish I had a little bit of help. But I did say I'd cover their backs for them. And Basch did say I had the hang of fighting. So I guess I'll just have to deal with these guys myself." Reks drew his sword.
"Alright guys, looks like it's just you and me." Reks charged at the two Archadians who had just drawn their own blades.
The soldiers yelled for Archadia. They charged at Reks. He swung his weapon, the blunt part of his sword hitting one of the soldiers square in the chest. The soldier fell onto his back. The other soldier then punched Reks. Reks fell down. The soldiers then took this chance to regroup. They ran away, their metal armour clanking as they did.
"Why are they running? It's not like I was really that much of a threat." Reks pondered.
He then proceeded to fight the three Heartless, which went down relatively easy once Reks learned there pattern of attack.
Just as he finished them off, the two Archadian soldiers returned, with another five or six more.
"Oh boy. Not good. I've got too much to learn to take them all on at once." Reks looked around, trying to see if anyone could help him out. He didn't, though he did find the next best thing. A narrow passage that would thin out the Archadians, making it one on one.
"Dalmasca will never fall!" Reks yelled as he turned and made a break for the passage. Three of the soldiers followed him, one of them the soldier he had hit in the chest. Reks knew that because there was a dent in the armour where Reks had hit him. Reks got into the passage and waited for the soldiers to get to him. One started to get into the passage way, but Reks slashed him a couple of times, causing the soldier to die. The other two realized what was going to happen should they try the same manuver.
"Hey you two, get over here!" one of the soldiers yelled to some of the remaining soldiers. They rushed over. Reks heard the sound of the soldiers talking, but could not hear what they were saying.
After a few minutes, he heard footsteps behind him. The Archadians found another way in. Looks like Reks' plan wasn't fool- proof after all. He then proceeded to exit the passage when he realized that soldiers were on the other side. But before he could do anything, he heard the sounds of a struggle on the other side. After it stopped he heard his name called, saying that it was alright to come out. He hurried out, and sure enough, Basch and the other troops were waiting for him.
"You took too long." one of the soldiers said.
"We were worried. You're a bright, brave, young lad. And we need someone like you amongst us." Basch said.
The two Archadian soldiers came out just after that, saw that their comrades were down, and charged the soldiers in a last ditch effort to weaken their forces. Reks remembered that Basch had taught him how to use magick, and called upon it. A bolt of lightning struck and killed one of the soldiers, as it shot out of Reks palm. Reks then proceeded to kill the other soldier by stabbing him.
"Looks like you were right sir. I am getting the hang of fighting. Vaan would be proud to call me my brother." Reks said sheathing his sword.
"Aye boy, and Dalmasca would be proud to call you her son." Basch replied. With that the others turned and ran back the way they had just came, back towards their objective.
"Sir, those Archadians had some wierd black soldiers. Any idea what they were?"
"Can't say I do boy. I just hope they aren't behind that dark cloud overhead."
Heartless appeared in front of the group, and behind the group.
"Don't worry Sir Basch. I will put what you taught me to good use." Reks said, drawing his sword.
Basch and the others followed suit. "Aye, as will we." one of the soldiers replied.
