Audition post (400 words):
'Kuja. How could he have survived? I saw him die. This shouldn't be possible.' And yet it appeared that it was. Zidane ran down the hallway, toward a grand ballroom, where Kuja said to meet him. There he said, they would finish where they left off. They would fight to the death. Not that Zidane wasn't ready to do that, but the last time he fought Kuja, he wasn't alone. And this time, not a single person could help him. Steiner and Beatrix were too busy protecting Garnet, who couldn't leave her throne at the time. Vivi had vanished, as did Amarant. Freya had gone off with Fratley. Quina was probably making food for Garnet and her guests, and Eiko had gone to be with Cid and Hilda.
So he was all alone in this fight. Then again, things might've been different if he had just told them the truth.
"Guys, you wanna go on another adventure?" Steiner asked why, with Zidane replying by smiling and saying that it may be fun. Everyone he talked to however said that wasn't cause enough to go with him, though some were more hesitant than others to say this, mainly Garnet.
He opened one of the giant sized doors, just enough for him to squeeze through. He did so and found himself looking at Kuja, and about 15 black mages.
"Kuja, you said this would be a one on one match!" Not that Zidane was surprised or anything, I mean after all, this was Kuja. The so called Angel of Death.
"Alas my brother, I lied. And it would appear you did as well."
Zidane turned around to see what he was talking about. He saw Steiner, Beatrix, Garnet, and Vivi standing there.
He ran over to them. "Guys! What are you doing here!? You said you weren't coming!" He hugged all of them.
"Well we weren't going to, but Garnet insisted. We just happened to have found Vivi on the way here." Steiner replied.
Zidane looked at Garnet. "Thank you! I always knew your good looks weren't your only good quality." He hugged Garnet again. Then he turned toward Kuja and his Black Mages.
"Vivi, Garnet, you deal with the mages. Steiner, Beatrix, you're with me. We take Kuja head on." His companions nodded, and with that, they all charged. Steiner lept at Kuja, only to be knocked away. He flew through the air, and collided with Beatrix. Vivi and Garnet were quickly over-run. Zidane stopped before he got even halfway to Kuja.
"Guys!"
"Don't worry about us! Get Kuja!" Garnet said.
"But I can't beat him alone!" Zidane replied.
"You'll have to!" she replied.
"Kuja, let them go!" Zidane said, pulling out his two daggers.
"I'm afraid that the Heartless won't allow it." Kuja said sneering sinisterly.
"Heartless?! What the hell are those? Some new type of black mage? Cause if so, I'll just knock their heads together."
Kuja shook his head. "They are beings of pure darkness." Shortly after saying that, the world began to disappear.
"It looks like they found Gaia's heart. I wonder if you will make it." Kuja then vanished, leaving a portal behind. Zidane turned around to find that the black mages had transformed, they were now Neo-Shadows.
"Guys we have to hurry! I'll help you, and then we'll get out of here!"
"No time for that. Go Zidane, you're the only one with a chance to stop Kuja!" Steiner said. Zidane didn't want to, but a Heartless attacked him, causing him to jump backward. When he landed, he tripped over his feet, causing him to go into the portal. The portal then vanished.
"I see you made it Zidane. Well let me tell you something. So did Garnet. I took her at the last second."
"Give her back you monster!" Zidane replied, though he could see nothing.
"I'm a monster? Well I suppose I am. But then again, so are you, dear brother."
"I'm no monster!" Zidane yelled. He began to scream, and as he did so, he transformed. He was now in trance mode. He blacked out. The next thing he knew, someone was asking if he was alright. He opened his eyes, to see a young man with a scar kneeling beside him.
"Where am I?" Zidane asked.
"Radiant Garden. I'm Leon, part of the Restoration Committee."
"I'm Zidane." Zidane quickly got up.
"Garnet. I've got to find her. But first I've got to find Kuja."
"Slow down there kiddo. You aren't going anywhere just yet. You're wounded." Leon replied.
Zidane looked down at his side, and saw blood. Then the pain registered. He blacked out once more, the last thing he heard before he lost consciousness was that when he was better, Leon would help him.
