"It's...over."
Down on his knees, Cloud was panting heavily. He knew what he did, what he had to do. There was a great battle, a battle that spanned many worlds. A battle that felt like eternity. "Is the darkness truly gone?" There was still strength left within his body. "Just enough...to move." Thus he'd used his sword as a makeshift crutch. Previously it had been stabbed into the barren earth. With each passing minute his eyelids fluttered more and more. Consciousness or lack thereof was fleeting. Before he could submit to the unknown, there was one thing he had to know. "Is he...still here." By he you must understand that Cloud was refering to Sephiroth. The bane of his existence, the source of alienation from those he cared about. Did he have the courage to look up? The courage to see whether his battle was victorious? "Defeating me is meaningless. You know that more than anyone, Cloud." A familiar voice was echoing through his cerebral. The tone reeked of apathy yet it kept ringing a cord within the warrior's mind.
In terms of combat; Cloud was able to draw upon a new power. The power of friendship; the power of light. His body was immersed in the feeling and while he may not have figured it out during combat; his weary mind certainly realized it now. Did the light suit Cloud? Was the light really his own and not the wishes Tifa bestowed upon him? "I...don't know." Words he had repeated prior to engaging Sephiroth. There was so much thoughts running through his mind then. There was so much thoughts running through his mind, even now. "Maybe I should erase myself..." So the battle scarred warrior was pulled by the leg. Once more immersed into mortal combat within his very find. It was win or die for Cloud, the darkness within him... the darkness that attracted Sephiroth; he sought to defeat it.
"I just...want to do the right thing. For Aerith, for Tifa... Sora and the others..."
A sudden coughing fit came over him, forcing the blonde to both his knees. Both hands grasped onto the handle of his blade. It caused him to glimpse a portion of blade, near the hilt. The bandages were once more covering it's form. The blade itself looked dull, lacking polish. What did those bandages represent to Cloud. In a way, he was masking his strength. Hiding it just as he did his heart. Fear was the reality of the situation. Fear of his friends being wrong... and that Sephiroth was right. "Heh...why couldn't I be like the others." His past was riddled in darkness; clouds of uncertainty hovered within his inner world. Days like that weren't so bad, it was when it rained that things took a turn for the worst. If he was to liken such days to days within his past. Days he'd rather forget, it would be like a torrential downpour upon his heart. Basking it with more darkness.
A gust of wind swept him by, moving towards its own destination. His bangs ruffled slightly amiss the blonde spikes. The chill of uncertainty left Cloud in its tailwind. Did his courage falter? Did he have no resolve? Perhaps at the end of the day... it doesn't even matter. "No..." The cold steel of a familiar nodachi class katana was looming in the air. In Cloud's mind it was pressed to his neck. Thus he kept his head held low, his body langauge expressing that he was defeated. That was when a familiar chime went off. A ringing sound which caused a sharp sensation in his body. His left hand moved to grasp his forehead. The palms that aided him in combat now acted as a veil of darkness, sliding down from his crown to mask his eyes.
Erase Myself...to let go of what I've done
"What's this warmth...?"
Wouldn't you know it, the all too familiar aura had returned to him. The resolve to look forward empowered him once more. It was time to behold the truth of the matter once and for all. His hand moved away and light hit his occuli. Once they adjusted his gaze looked straight ahead. "He's not there..." His instinct forced him to turn his head. His quick action only revealed that nobody was behind him. Convinced of the truth, he'd ease himself up to a standing position. His very blade was pulled out of the earth. Held upon high for the world to see, blue occuli would observe a small glint. A portion of his blade that was visible beneath the bandages. It was a brief moment; an hallucination most likely. Yet he saw within the reflection Tifa, Aerith, Sora and the others. Each of them smiling, one by one. It caused Cloud to exhale, not in a depressed sigh, perhaps not even in relief. Simply to clear his lungs, to exit from the brief moment of remiss.
He'd place his sword upon his back before it promptly disappeared.
"I may have defeated Sephiroth... but I didn't do it alone. Still... I can't return just yet. Not until I can find he light within myself."
So he walked out into the distance. Yesterday he was a man on a battle to eliminate the darkness. Today, he was a man searching for the light.
