Name: Cordell Ribaldrous Furor the 10th
Alias: Captain of the Red Corsair
Age: 25
Home World: Port Royal
Birthday: June 12th
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Physical appearance:
This lady brings to mind a cobra waiting to strike... prematurely, perhaps. She has a youthful, nearly girlish face and large brown eyes with a peculiar hint of light blue near the center of the iris, almost like someone had dropped minuscule shards of mirrored glass into her gaze (a rare deformity known as central heterochromia or "cat eyes"). Her somewhat-curly brown hair is a bit past shoulder-length and is worn in an artistic, nay, overdramatic style like a manifestation of the sea breeze itself. She is a bit short but well proportioned, having a slender and agile build. Her wardrobe is gaudy and expensive-looking considering where she's from, much of it in dashing shades of deep red and black, topped by a large scarlet coat with long coattails and large inner pockets.
She has the perpetual air of a woman who thinks far too highly of herself, and a stupid grin of supremacy to match.
Clothing/Accessories:
[Body Armor]
Sandwiched in amongst her layers of apparel are pieces of iron body armor, of which all but the chest piece actually have fabric sleeves enclosing them so as to make the captain's protection less than noticeable. This gives added defense to her chest, back, and forearms; it's enough to turn against the slash of a sword or the shot of a pistol, but not the thrust of a spear or the bullet of a rifle.
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Behavior:
Cordell is a creature driven primarily by an over-estimated sense of self-worth. She's the kind of person who always has to make a dramatic entrance, declaring her name for all to know and announcing either part or all of whatever maniacal scheme she's attempting to pull. On the surface she seems to be a woman of no subtlety... and this is mostly true. She does, however, have some cunning in her, and occasionally uses her own overt nature to lull her opponents into... oh, who are we kidding? The captain is about as predictable as a loaded gun.
Though she generally keeps to the Pirate Code, the unique circumstances that Cordell has found herself in often dictate that she do whatever she thinks is best at any given time. What's more, she can sometimes be found quoting the Evil Overlord's List, which she somehow found a copy of in the captain's chambers of her ship. Furthermore, although Cordell is as interested in gold and jewels as any pirate, what truly stirs her treasure-lust is objects & artifacts of a mystical or mysterious nature. In that sense, she sees herself as a collector of oddities and secrets, very few of which she's willing to part with in trade for conventional treasure.
[Pistols]
Cordell is a woman of many guns. It could rightly be said that she has something of a fetish for guns both big and small. Her standard armament are customized four-shot flintlock pistols; she keeps six of them in pockets inside her coat, three on her belt (one hidden behind her for emergencies), two strapped to each of her legs, and one in her left boot. For good measure, she also keeps a large stash of loaded pistols in the captain's chamber of 'The Red Corsair', but under lock and key. She's a good shot with these weapons - not exactly a marksman, but she can reliably hit a man-sized target at ten meters.
[Weapon Type: Primary]
[Weapon Quality: Average]
[Defender's Cutlass]
Ah, the blade of choice for the sea-faring warrior! No pirate should ever leave dry dock without a pistol, a dagger, and a cutlass. Oh, and a map usually helps, too.
Cordell's version of the classic pirate blade is a bit different from the standard fare, geared more towards defense than offense. The blade, though being long and thin, is of very sturdy make -- combined with the fact that she wields it in a back-handed style makes it adept for blocking and parrying an enemy's melee attacks. For blunt impacts the hand guard has been expanded upon with a small rounded steel buckler roughly the size of an average bowl. Given its small size and the somewhat limited physical power of its wielder, however, the buckler is still very much a hand guard more than anything. Attacking with this weapon requires Cordell to get in close to her foes, which she prefers not to do, so it is generally teamed up with a pistol in her other hand while in close combat.
[Weapon Type: Secondary]
[Weapon Quality: Average]
[Smoke Grenades]
Our good captain is not to be caught off guard when making a hasty getaway or pulling an underhanded stunt. Secured to a belt running across her chest are seven home-made smoke grenades which utilize flintlock-lit fuses. These grenades create a quick and effective smokescreen roughly ten feet wide which, oddly enough, smells quite a bit like rotten eggs. According to the captain, the stench helps to disorient those who try to charge through the smoke, but it's effectiveness is debatable.
[Weapon Type: Secondary]
[Weapon Quality: Average]
[The Red Corsair]
Ah, a ship like none other... and with good reason, too. Though in appearance little different from a Brig-class vessel from the Golden Age of Piracy -- well, aside from the smooth, glossy hull that's black underneath and dark red from the mid-line upward -- 'The Red Corsair' is, in actuality, a Gummi ship... and, in fact, one cursed by the darkness and bearing a mind much its own.
The ship's curse is, in truth, what made Cordell a captain in the first place. When she found the ship she was part of a less-than-legitimate businessman's salvage operation, combing the Caribbean for lost cargo and worthwhile shipwrecks. When the salvage team set foot upon the ship that would later become known as 'The Red Corsair', they were all slowly turned into Heartless (specifically Pirate and Air Pirate Heartless) with the sole exception of Cordell, whom the ship then spoke to. As it turns out, the ship is actually an odd combination of Gummi technology and artificial Heartless, unable to act on its own but ever hungry for fresh hearts to sustain it.
The ship made Cordell a deal: if she helped it find hearts to consume, it would help her to become a matchless, legendary pirate rich with plunder and fulfilled in her desires. Cordell accepted. The Heartless who had once been the salvage team became the ship's new crew, and Cordell's loyal - if largely incompetent - servants.
As for weapons, the ship bears four dark-energy cannons on each side and two rear-facing ones, each able to reload and fire two minutes after taking a shot. On any target smaller than ten square feet these are highly inaccurate; they may kick up a lot of dust, but any person targeted by these guns has a slim chance of being hit. The ship's sails take in solar energy which it then converts and uses to fill its fuel cells, allowing it to fly between worlds. Curiously, even in the depths of the void the ship's deck retains normal gravity and a large bubble of breathable air, likely due to the influence exerted by it's Heartless components.
Whether airborne or afloat, the ship's top speed is a not-so-blistering 11 knots (roughly 12 miles per hour). When in the depths of space, however, the ship is capable of moving dramatically faster using it's mysterious DMAS core (Dark Matter Acceleration System). A very good thing that, as its regular speeds would take a lifetime to get from one world to the next.

[The BIG GUN!]
One of the treasures Cordell recovered when she found 'The Red Corsair' was a gun of seemingly unrivaled... well, gun-ness! Like a character out of an anime, the captain shouts out "It's time... fer th' BIG GUN!" and in a flash of scarlet energy a huge gatling gun materializes strapped onto her right arm. It's size is utterly absurd, like the kind of weapon one would expect to find mounted on a military vehicle, yet Cordell uses it as if it's weight and recoil were non-existent. Both the captain and the weapon glow with a bright red energy while it's in use, seemingly a power which makes this physics-defying weaponry usable. The Big Gun rapid-fires explosive bolts of dark energy that are strong enough to dent six-inch solid steel on impact.
The upside of the weapon is that it allows the captain to dump an absurd amount of ammunition into any target she can see. The downside is that she's not very mobile while using it; she can walk, but running and jumping are straight-up out-of-the-question. What's more, the fact that the Big Gun has to be summoned in such a loud and obvious way gives anyone in earshot a fair chance of finding cover before she can take aim. Furthermore, once the weapon has been used it takes some time to cool down and rearm before it's ready to be used again.
Strength: Strong
Uses: Twice per battle.
Duration: Two turns. Eight turn cool-down period.
[Fake-Out!]
An interesting trick Cordell learned after coming in contact with a peculiar magical artifact. Briefly glowing with a red aura, two illusory copies of the captain seem to "leap out" from where she stands - or perhaps one stands still while she leaps; it's never quite a sure thing. Regardless, the result is two fake but lifelike captains running around firing bullets that are only illusions while the real captain sets up the enemy for some serious hurt -- or, alternately, drops a smoke grenade and amscrays!
If one of the fakes takes even a little bit of damage, they vanish in a bright flash of light. Likewise, after a certain length of time the illusions will vanish on their own.
Strength: Moderate
Uses: Three times per battle.
Duration: Three turns. Two turn cool-down period.
Minions
Minion Grade: D
Name: Pirate Crew
Number of Minions: 8
Appearance:
Abilities:
[Flash 'O Steel]
[The Pirate's cutlass flashes briefly, infusing it with a small measure of energy that makes it's edge sharper and a bit stronger for a single attack. While not very impressive individually, should the whole group use this ability at once and charge an enemy all together, the potential damage is nothing to scoff at.]
[Strength: Weak]
[Uses: Once every three turns.]
Elemental Weakness: Light
History:
These scallywags are the unfortunate victims of 'The Red Corsair's curse, Cordell's coworkers who were transformed when she made her agreement with the ship. They're not especially strong, nor particularly bright, but they can swing a sword and man a ship, and that's all that counts.
Minion Grade: C
Name: Air Pirate Squad
Appearance:
Number of Minions: 6
Abilities:
[Bombing Run]
[Each conjuring a sphere of darkness, the Air Pirates of Cordell's crew drop bomb-like blasts of dark energy on a given target. The attack is only halfway accurate and doesn't pack much of a punch when it does hit, but the blasts kick up enough dust and dirt that it can temporarily obscure an opponent's sight.]
[Strength: Weak]
[Uses: Three times per battle]
[Flight]
While not exactly the fastest creatures ever to bear a set of wings, Cordell's Air Pirates are passably able fliers, able both to glide in any given direction (including up and down) and hover in one place for as long as they might need. However, if hit by an attack while airborne the Air Pirates will automatically lose altitude: four or five feet for a regular attack or Weak Ability, and anything stronger automatically sends them into an out-of-control tailspin straight to the ground (or the nearest solid surface).
[Strength: Weak]
Elemental Weakness: Light
History:
These scallywags are the unfortunate victims of 'The Red Corsair's curse, Cordell's coworkers who were transformed when she made her agreement with the ship. The bunch that became Air Pirates were a tad bit tougher and more capable than the rest of the lot, but there's hardly any real difference. When not in battle, Cordell's Air Pirate Squad can often be seen doing assorted repairs to the outside of 'The Red Corsair'.
"Arr, so ye be wantin' t' know th' tale of th' legendary Cordell Ribaldrous Furor th' 10th, Captain-at-large o' 'The Red Corsair'? HAH HAH! A mighty fine tale, that, though I'll not be tellin' it fer free now. A drink? Now that shall be more like it!"
"A sad, sorry lass I was, but five month ago. Always had I dreamed o' th' pirate's life, but though I be descended o' epic pirate stock nary had I opportunity t' embrace its legacy. Indeed, though me pistol skills be sharp an' me swordplay practiced, twas not a single scurrilous captain t'would take me aboard his privateerin' ship. Now they shall be regrettin' such a decision, I'm seein' t' that. Heh..."
"Ah, where was I? Oh yes... takin' t' th' seas. 'Twas was only with a salvager that I was able t' finally ship out onto th' brimy blue. Three years I spent haulin' soaked crates an' sea-lobbed boards... three miserable years with barely enough pay t' put bread on me table. All that changed five months ago, though... when I saw her come over th' watery horizon."
"Why is it men see women as sour luck, yet make their ships out t' be womanly? Fools... a ship's no more man or woman than th' very materials o' th' world be engendered! No... in truth, a ship's so much more. Tis' an emotion given form an' power, primal an' elemental beyond th' scope o' mortal knowing. A ship is like a god, bent t' this idea or that precept yet beholden t' nothing... save th' chosen. I'm firmly believin' that ships, like gods, choose their adherents . . . an' by Calypso, that ship chose me that day. Call me crazy, but it spoke t' me... an' thar upon we made a pact, th' ship and I. I, t' feed its dark hunger... and the ship, t' make me th' greatest, wealthiest, most powerful pirate as ever sailed a sea! HAH HAH! We signed th' contract with th' darkness itself we did, signed it into th' minds and bodies of all th' other salvagers who'd mocked me an' insulted me day in an' day out. Now they're all mine, me faithful crew o' shadows. And I'd be a keelhauled fool if'n every part o' me wasn't just itchin' t' sail that big beautiful boat across a thousand seas an' a thousand stars, leavin' me mark upon every single one of 'em."
"Th' world... nay, every world's gonna know my name! Cordell Ribaldrous Furor the 10th, woman captain o' 'The Red Corsair'!! HAH HAH! Barkeep, another drink!"
The shield is chosen. It looks remarkably like the hand guard for a cutlass.
