Audition post (400 words):
A young girl with paper brown hair quickly turned a corner, her hair pulled back with a pink ribbon bounced as she turned her head around. She was seeing how the other children who were chasing her were doing. If they were hot on her trail or way behind. She let out a small giggle as she saw how far behind they were. She turned the rest of the corner, hiding from their view.
She looked around, surveying the area around her with her sparkling brown eyes. She found a barrel that had it's lid half off. She went over to it, looking inside. It was empty. She smiled brightly.
Perfect place to hide. She thought to herself as she slipped inside of it, then ducked down putting the lid over her head. It instantly became dark, there was a small hole though that let in some light. She looked through the small hole, squinting one of her eyes.
"Where is she?" One of the other children asked as five boys and girl's turned the corner, they looked around.
"How could she outrun us?" Another boy asked.
"Let's just go back."
She couldn't help but giggle at how oblivious they were.
"Did someone hear that?" One of the boy's asked as he looked around.
"No."
"I swear I heard something."
Another giggle.
The boy walked towards the barrel and was ever so close to it. She couldn't help but let out another small giggle, not loud it for them to hear. But it was more audible than she thought it was. It was muffled by the barrel but if the boy listened hard enough he could hear it. The boy decided to look inside of the barrel. He lifted the lid off to find the top of someone's head. Marlene Wallace's head. She looked upwards and smiled. "You found me!" She said, standing up straight.
The boy backed away and the others looked at Marlene. Only her head was sticking out of the barrel. The barrel was about up to her shoulder's. Only a bit smaller than herself. She just stood there looking at the other kids. She smiled a bit, but it slowly faded away.
"Y-you look funny!" One of the girl's laughed out, pointing at Marlene.
Marlene frowned, and then the boy who had found her placed his hand on her shoulder and then ran away from her shouting. "Your ieet!"
The others started laughing then one burst out, "Barrel girl!" And the others joined in as well, pointing at her. Her face hung low as they all laughed at her. She slunk into the barrel, hiding her face.
"I don't wanna play anymore...." She said to them, her voice sounding sad. Upset.
Some of them stopped laughing, one of the boys walked over to the barrel and looked into it. "Aww come on Marlie, we're just messin' around." He turned to the others. "Right guys?" He asked.
Some answered back, "Right!"
Marlene then sprung out of the barrel and tagged the boy. "Your it." She jumped out of the barrel and started to run back down the street, as she was about to turn a corner she turned around and stuck her tongue out at them. "Catch me if you can!" She said sticking her tongue out, then ran off.
She always got her way. Even if it was a simple game of hide 'n seek.
