As you are heading out the door of your house, a small glimmer of light catches your eye. You turn around and see a mirror, putting you face to face with your reflection.

Physical appearance ~ : Marlene is a girl of seven years old, she's short but cute. She has a semi chubby, childish cheeks. Her eyes are brown, as well as her hair which is pulled back into a braid and has a pink ribbon in it. (Much like the one Aerith wheres.) She has bangs that cover her forehead falling to about her eyebrows. She is about five feet tall and probably weighs hundred pounds or less.

Clothing/Accessories ~ : Marlene is found wearing a white top that has a turtle neck on it and no sleeves. It's a white beige color. She also wears a white beige skirt that has designs and stuff on it. On her feet she wears high top converse like shoes with flower socks underneath them. She has a pink ribbon in her hair.

As you're walking through the door, you see many sights that influence your mood. The different feelings that suddenly wash over you are many, leaving you with a strange mix of emotions.

Behavior ~ : Marlene is a bright and intelligent child who is more mature than most children her age. She looks up to Tifa as a role model. She cares greatly for her friends. When powers threaten to tear her family apart, she'll put up a fight. She's one tough cookie. She acts as most children do; she's impressionable but without the understanding of the darkness around her. She pours all the love her child heart can muster onto her adoring adoptive father and her unofficial foster mother Tifa Lockheart, hanging on to their every word as if they were the two greatest people to tread the unworthy earth. She does not seem to mind the lack of playmates of her age. On the contrary, she is perfectly content with the adults that have accepted her so willingly. Sadly, this isolation is more than likely accepted because the horrible life of near-poverty in the Sector 7 slums is all she knows. She will confront a problem with bluntness only a child can convey. She insists to participate in any way she can. She is accustomed to being around adults, so she is not intimidated by the likes of Vincent Valentine or the beast Red XIII.

Pendant;
The only real for of protection that Marlene has. This pendant was once her mothers, who she does not know about but Papa gave it to her when she was four. She has kept it with her ever since. Somehow the spirits of her parents protect her, if anything comes to harm her she can harness the power of the mystic to protect herself as well as anyone else who she calls friend or family.

[Harnessing the powers of the pendant, though the pendant has a connection with Marlene so whenever she is fearful of something or is being injured a ball of light surrounds her entire body, acting as a barrier. Nothing can penetrate this barrier as long as she keeps it up.]

There was once a small mining town called Corel. A cozy town where everyone knew everybody else and went about their business. It is in such a world that a baby girl, Marlene, was born to Dyne and Eleanor. Her father couldn't have been more proud, and his admiration for the little girl was shared in earnest by his close friend Barret and his own wife Mina.

Then Shinra came. Mako became the leading energy source, and coal exports slowed. Suddenly the way of life Corel's people had known for years was gone. What were they supposed to do now that all they knew was mining? Shinra built a reactor on the outskirts of the town, Corel. The townsfolk would have jobs to support their families, and steady business would once again return to Corel. Dyne, Marlene’s father, was wary of Shinra’s intentions though. Production was cut short when an explosion rocked the mako reactor. Shinra said it was a deliberate attack on the organization. Shinra said the culprits were anonymous terrorists hiding out in the small mining town. Thus, they sent in troops.

Barret and Dyne were out on the surrounding mountains when they received word of an attack by Shinra troops. Before the two could make it back to protect their homes, they encountered a group of soldiers who immediately opened fire. Barret pushed onward to Corel where he was greeted by the remnants of an all-out massacre. Men, women -- Eleanor and Myra included-- and children were slain in the name of justice during Shinra's raid. The town was reduced to nothing but ruble. By some miracle, the infant daughter, Marlene, of Dyne and Eleanor had survived the slaughter, and Barret vowed to raise the little girl as if she were his own, leaving for Midgar with the baby and a heavy heart.

Dyne, Marlene’s father, survives and Barret and Dyne do not meet until four years later when Marlene is of the age of four. Dyne seems to have lost his mind and hi and Barret fight after Barret tells Dyne that Marlene is alive and is in Midgar. After a short battle, Dyne is subdued, thoughts returning to his daughter as if he were just now processing the horrible words he had spat out moments before. He had wanted to kill his own daughter for the sake of a memory. Dyne after giving Barret a pendant that was Eleanor’s, kills himself, jumping off a cliff. He says that he has hands that are too stained to carry Marlene.

...Dyne. Me an' you were the same... My hands ain't any cleaner...... I shouldn't be able to carry... Marlene either...

~Barret

At four, Marlene knows nothing of this. She doesn’t even know who her real parents are. She sees Barret as her father. Someone so young does not understand the nature of a father's relationship with his daughter beyond the fact that he loves her, so Marlene has no reason to question Papa as her father. In fact, with her original home and family buried, the pendant entrusted in Barret is the only tangible evidence the girl has of that past life ever existing in the first place.

Marlene is introduced to Cloud as the four-year-old daughter of Barret Wallace, the leader of anti-Shinra group AVALANCHE. Although she was adopted, it is abundantly clear that she means everything to Barret, and her future is always on his mind.

The Ancient Aerith gives up her freedom when the girl's life is in danger, but the issue takes center stage when Shinra decides to take her as a hostage to keep AVALANCHE in line. At a time when the team finally has an advantage over Shinra and -- potentially -- Sephiroth, Cloud chooses to comply with Shinra's demands in exchange for Marlene's safety.

By the age of seven, Marlene Wallace has seen the world almost end three times: once in a race between a corporate menace and an otherworldly madman; again by said otherworldly madman's remnants and a global plague; once more by a would-be madman who can't seem to find his shirt. Marlene is at the center of the Planet's struggle. She is taken as a hostage not once, but twice. Nevertheless, even if she does not understand the greater powers at work, when such powers threaten to tear her family apart, she'll put up a fight.
When Marlene's stand-in mother Tifa and hero Cloud Strife decide to pursue a relationship, Marlene is entrusted in the pair while her adoptive father travels the world. From this point onward, Marlene is acknowledged as part of a "family of three"--later a "family of four". A boy by the name of Denzel enters her world along with a terminal illness known as Geostigma. Marlene is not affected by this. Marlene sits at Denzel's side, brings him meals, and prays for his recovery. In addition to the Geostigma epidemic, the Planet is plagued by remnants of Sephiroth--three young men who exist solely to fulfill his Reunion. They do so by rounding up the afflicted children of the world, however, the leader Kadaj gives specific orders to abduct a healthy Marlene.
Cloud comes to rescue the children and Marlene, as well as Denzel, but she tells him outright that she wants nothing to do with him when he won't listen to his family, and she refuses to go home with him until he concedes. She goes with Vincent, who she doesn’t seem afraid of. Cloud rescues everyone and Marlene’s world is once again fine. She now lives in Radiant Garden with Tifa.
