Audition post (400 words):
In a time that was yesterday, today and eternally tomorrow, there was a man. Perhaps he was not truly a man, for though a body was his, he had no heart to accompany it. It should be to no surprise that his actions were equally heartless in turn; he coldly looked upon what he had caused from the highest tower.
Where once had been the town hall now was nothing more than a gigantic rock, dropped from the mountain that towered over the town. Dropped by the hands of one young Jonathan, a lovable fool who had previously been well-liked by the populace. It had been a few days ago when Luxord had seen the young lad, and had taken an interest in it. He wondered if he could bring such a likable lad to the brink of madness, and alienate him from the town that loved him.
As it was, he could. It had been all too easy.
"Isn't it interesting just to see how such an amicable young man can be turned into a despicable incarnation of madness?" queried Luxord out loud to the only other soul to have beheld this carnage; Jonathan's mother herself.
"Ho-how... how could you?!" shrieked she, her face contorted with anger and rage; the sort that only mothers can muster when a madman has just harmed their son in the most painful way.
The Nobody did not respond immediately; he stepped around and ran a finger over his chin, all the while gazing at the smashed townhall.
"How could I?" he repeated, with a hint of mockery. "It took a veritable amount of effort to convince your offspring that, truly, his destiny lay with protecting the town from the looming threat of the boulder.
"Would he realize that it would turn this quiet outpost into a bedlam? Would he warn others of the threat? Would he do something outside my spectrum of expectation? There was but one way to find out." And, with a contemptful smile the man added, "It truly was a magnificent sight to behold."
Jonathan's mother stood struck at this man's revelation, this man's madness. Truly, he had ruined their town for the sake of a nonsensical gamble. Whether or not there was anything to win was none of Luxord's concern: the gamble was more interesting than the outcome, although this outcome was, indeed, slightly surprising.
Without wasting further words, he departed from the scene, leaving behind one ravaged village, a broken mother, and an angry mob en route to Jonathan...
