Ribbit
The sound that croaked out of the humanoid amphibian's throat was in the place of a happy sigh as the man-turned frog looked down upon a a perfectly peaceful waterfall in the middle of a forest. This place wasn't all that different from the landscape of his own home kingdom. There were no roaming Fiends to attack you at every turn though, just the occasional carnivore. No wild beast was a match for this frog's swordsmanship though. He carefully convinced all attackers to leave him be without having to take their lives needlessly. He was but a visitor here, after all.
Yes, a visitor. Glenn had traveled through time itself before, but only on his own home planet. Now he was venturing to entirely new worlds with their own natures and histories. And to make it worse, there seemed to be far more of them then he could ever have imagined. How was he to find a single man amongst such a diverse universe? His only hope was to be guided by his magic-banishing blade... and though there was certainly something supernatural in the air of this world, it was not the dark power of the shadowmage that he sought.
"I should be glad that such magic was never brought into so clean a land as this," the man spoke, his voice carrying a distinctly inhuman rumble within its tone. With another ribbit the knight came to sit upon a log by the pool of water, resting and looking upon his reflection. It did his soul well to bask in so serene a setting. "But if I find no trace of him here then where to even begin to look next?"
Startled by the appearance of so close a voice Glenn turned his head quickly but saw no one. He had not yet encountered any other people in this land, only wildlife. The voice sounded female and old as well, but there was no sign of any humans present on the small islet on which he now rested. Only a single large tree, which was plenty wide enough for someone to be on the other side of and remain unseen.
"Who is there?" he asked, rising to his feet and turning inward. He leaned his vision toward the edge of the willow, hoping to bring the hider out. "Do not be alarmed by my appearance, I mean you no harm."
Glenn's gentle demeanour belied an inner weight at the small exchange. After having just a short time ago been granted a brief glimpse of humanity again after so long... to again be trapped in the body of a frog was freshly present in his mind. Thankfully Glenn had been this way for many years and was quite used to it by now.
The voice came again, but now it was distinctly from above. Frog looked up to see a human face slowly shape itself among the knots of wood in the tree, then smile at him fully animated.
He had seen many things in his adventures, but even this experienced knight was surprised at such a sight. Truly there were wonders among these countless worlds that defied his imagination still waiting to be found. With a quick croak and a regaining of composure he looked up again to the face and spoke.
"You may call me Frog," he answered as politely as he could. "Tell me, Lady Willow, do you know of any unnatural magic coming through your land in recent days?"
"Ribbit. That is... a personal affair," Glenn answered, turning slightly to the side as his left hand unconsciously rested upon the hilt of his sheathed sword. "I am pleased that this realm has been untouched, but I too should leave soon."
As Frog had turned away and began to walk toward the edge of the small island he paused at the elder being's question and turned, confidently. "As long as I am destined to reunite with whom I seek then perhaps it will not matter where I look," he answered with a smile. The tree face seemed to smile and nod in turn and then slowly vanished back into the folds of the bark. Frog turned away again and made for the water. He had a long swim back.
'I have not forgotten my oath, Cyrus' Glenn thought as he made to leave this world behind. The memory of his true friend, closer to him even than a brother, lived on forever in Glenn's heart and gave him strength. It was Cyrus' will that he had inherited and that he even now believed to be carrying on. 'Nor have I forgotten to forgive the deeds of the past. I will honour my allies and set things right.'
And so the loyal knight set out on his journey once more. He would protect his homeland... and bring justice to a fallen comrade. Frog had many allies back home who may have helped him, but all were strewn across time itself and unreachable by his own power. He now walked alone in alien places. Perhaps somewhere out there were new comrades to meet.
All he knew for certain was that there was an old enemy.

"If you are meant to meet then it doesn't matter which direction you start looking."
Startled by the appearance of so close a voice Glenn turned his head quickly but saw no one. He had not yet encountered any other people in this land, only wildlife. "Oh I know you don't child."
The voice came again, but now it was distinctly from above. Frog looked up to see a human face slowly shape itself among the knots of wood in the tree, then smile at him fully animated.
"I am Grandmother Willow. May I ask your name, stranger?"
He had seen many things in his adventures, but even this experienced knight was surprised at such a sight. "You may call me Frog," he answered as politely as he could. "Tell me, Lady Willow, do you know of any unnatural magic coming through your land in recent days?"
"I am afraid that you were right before, as I have not. For what reason do you seek out such unclean magic?"
"Ribbit. That is... a personal affair," Glenn answered, turning slightly to the side as his left hand unconsciously rested upon the hilt of his sheathed sword. "I am pleased that this realm has been untouched, but I too should leave soon."
"And where will you go, child of a distant land?"
As Frog had turned away and began to walk toward the edge of the small island he paused at the elder being's question and turned, confidently.
