I don't know whether this one has been said before in the ten pages thus far but I'll give it a shot anyways:
Obviously if you want to fix a broken gun, and the answer is not an unbroken gun then the real answer would be a gun period. I mean really you cannot fix any object without the object to begin with. Therefore you need a gun first.
