Now don't kill me, I know there's a marketplace comment card thread but by page 2 I realized that I was a bit out of my depth. Criticism is good, but without knowing context I was just going: , , o.o the entire time. (Also, don't kill me for being a newb and being completely unfamiliar with the rules) So, whenever an equip tells you that you 'cannot use abilities' or that it affects abilities does that refer to character-specific abilities or to all abilities, including those given to you by equips? In some instances I see that as reasonable (any 'active' equip) but the for the passive equips... errr, not quite so much. [for instance Berserk and Weapon Affinity. By the wording, Berserk seems to inactivate ALL abilities while Weapon Affinity inactivates only character abilities. Which makes it look custom-made for tech characters who won't really want to purchase character abilities but I digress.] Clarification would be cool. When I say passive equips I mean: high jump, the Resistances, the amulets, etc. Maybe even flaming impact but I concede there's an awful lot of bias in that statement.

Abilities and Special Abilities have only one difference.
Abilities are abilities you come up with for your character.
Special Abilities are abilities you get in quests or any other way that you don't make yourself.
If something claims you can't use abilities, I assume that it means ALL ABILITIES. It would only make sense.
As I am not staff you do not need to trust my final word, but I do believe that my veteran status puts me almost up there at staff *still waitin' for that promotion*
Anywayz, hopefully that answers your question.

H'lo again!
Gem, you pretty much know what you're talking about, so I only have a teeny bit more t' add...
Special Abilities aren't for Quests, from what I've heard. But it's been a bit, so I don't remember what exactly they are for, so... -shrug-
But the basic thing is this! I haven't seen the "Special Abilities" section used... ever. And ever.
My guess is that it's just left over from an old character template or something.
So yeah. If you ever hear anything that says "abilities", assume that in general.
As for why Weapon Affinity bothered to be specific, I guess it's 'cause they didn't want to count Keyblade abilities. I mean, it is "Weapon" affinity.
Anything else on your mind?

Someone who actually analyses this crap and read the crapful in our Market Comment Thread? Impressive. You'd get along with Hero.
PM 'heroic bilby' this question, or at least direct him to this page. He be the authority on such matters. I'm just here to look good in leather.

The only thing that actually goes in "Special Abilities" right now is "Keyblade Wielder" and "Dual Wield Keyblade" if a character actually manages to obtain those. Nothing else fits in there right now.
So... no. Special Abilities wouldn't be weakened or removed by an effect of the equip because it's just confirmation that they have a genuine Keyblade, which would have its own abilities. More might be added for that section in the future, maybe even a theoretical rare custom Quest reward in the possible future might be put there if it fit well enough, but they are still likely unaffected from something that specifically states "character abilities" because they probably wouldn't be something of the character themselves.
And Weapon Affinity is worded that way because it would contradict itself if it said weapon abilities were strengthened but all abilities are weakened, so it specifically says character abilities are weakened.
Did I miss anything?

Hrm. We should have a thread for brainstorming new stuff to fall under that category.
Unless you staff people are already doing something of similar note, in which case I should be ignored.
Aaaanywho.

Wait, equips don't count as 'abilities' at ALL but rather some sorta item-derived doo-hickey?
SWEETNESS.
Edit:
Ahem. What I meant to say was that, I initially thought that 'special abilities' were equip abilities. Thank you for clearing that up!

Oh...yeah, equips don't fall under abilities. They're like items that give you abilities, but aren't fully abilities.
