Audition post (400 words):
“All right. Understood.” He’d been asked by the WRO to go to other worlds, and extend what one might call the hand of diplomacy. Why he was chosen wasn’t clear to him, he was the type who’d point and shoot, not to shake someone’s hand. Although Reeve had said there was more than one way to act as a diplomat. Vincent wasn’t sure he agreed. After all, he had managed to control Chaos ever since his encounter with Weiss, but it was stirring again, and he wasn’t sure he could control it.
In the Great Maw, Vincent turned toward the town, and began to walk toward it. But he wouldn’t make it. Fifty Heartless appeared, and all of them were eager to take him on. He drew his guns, and readied it to fire. Thanks to some modifications by the WRO, he no longer had to reload it after every pull of the trigger, and he had an exact duplicate of his modified Cerberus. He could now control how many bullets were fired off at one time, which meant he could fire three times before reloading. It would now hold six instead of three. Mind you he still had to reload a lot, but not as much as before. He pointed the guns at the nearest Heartless, and pulled the trigger. Two went down in an instant. He fired again, and took down another two. One more round left in each one. He’d fire then he’d have to reload. And that’s just what he’d do. Unfortunately, one of the bullets missed their intended target, for it had melded into the ground.
“What the?” He’d never seen anything do that before. He holstered one gun while he reloaded the other, and then holstered it to reload the one he had yet to reload. As he was prepping the gun to fire, two Heartless lept at him. He smacked one with his gun, and spun to kick the other away. Another second and he’d have missed. He fired each gun three times, and took out five Heartless. He was down to thirty-eight.
“Damn. There’s too many.” If there was anything in the area he could use to thin out their numbers faster he wouldn’t have said that, but there wasn’t anything around he could use.
Bum bum. Bum bum. His heart was beating harder now, and at a slower rate. Which meant only one thing. He holstered the replica of Cerberus and prepared to be taken over.
“Chaos.” Vincent screamed out in pain, for the first time in a long time. A bright flash of light, and he wasn’t Vincent anymore. He was Chaos, harbinger of Omega. His original gun had transformed into Death Penalty. He glared at the Heartless, and fired it twice. He managed to take out ten with each shot. Eight-teen remained. He rushed forward, and clawed three, which dispersed automatically. He jumped into the air, and fired three times, defeating the last of the Heartless. He landed, and just as he had become Chaos, he would change back into Vincent.
“So, it was those things making Chaos stir.”
As Vincent said this Cloud landed next to him, weapon ready.
“They’re called Heartless, creatures that are made when people give into the darkness. They seek out hearts to make more.”
“Any idea why they attacked me? Was it Chaos they were after?”
“Maybe.”
“....”
As the two left to leave, a Darkside Heartless appeared behind the two of them. Vincent spun, and fired his gun. It didn’t seem to do any damage. Cloud turned to face their new enemy.
“Just like old times.”
“Yeah, except this isn’t an enemy to take lightly.” Vincent laughed. None of their enemies were ever to be taken lightly, so it went without saying. Vincent ran toward the enemy, while Cloud jumped into the air to attack it from above. Both attacked it with their best shot, resulting in a cloud of dust. When the cloud cleared, any passerby would see a victor. And that victor, wasn’t human.
