Sephiroth turned and dismissed Masamune. The answer was obvious, such fear in Kadaj's eyes, not at death. No he could have run or begged for mercy earlier. It was Mother who he feared hearing. Why? Sephiroth felt part of the answer was that Kadaj...reminded him of himself.
He began to walk away, wondering what was next. Kadaj could interpret it as anything he wished. Without warning he turned. "Kadaj! Know the name of who nearly killed you and hears Mother as well. I am Sephiroth."

A pounding in his chest. A heartbeat? Or something more? That name.... Sephiroth. It shook Kadaj to the core, though he knew not if it was a good feeling or a bad one.
"You.... can hear her voice?" he asked. The silver-haired swordsman was sunk down, almost trembling from this encounter. Even among his brothers Loz and Yazoo weren't able to hear Mother as he could. But this man distorted her! Was he telling the truth? Was it all a scheme.
Perhaps most unnerving of all... the resemblance between this Sephiroth and his family. It could not be denied.
"Are you... our brother?"
He said our... Kadaj had slipped.

"Of course I can hear her." Sephiroth was still confused who Kadaj was. Our brother....so there were more?
"Brother, what do you mean?" Sephiroth snarled, not entirely happy to hear this. Yes, there was a resemblance, but Kadaj had yet to make Sephiroth trust him.

'Loz... Yazoo... '
Would they forgive him? Yes. No doubt. But this man... though there was certainly a bond, it didn't feel quite the same as what he shared with those two. It was less family and more... dominating.
"I..." Kadaj cut himself off. No use trying to cover it up. "We... just want her back. Our mother."

"Stand up." It was certain to Sephiroth that he couldn't continue to push Kadaj around. No, Mother wouldn't want it either. "I want her back too."
The idea of brothers was a foreign one, but Sephiroth could manage it for now. "Do you know why you came here?"

Kadaj seemed uncertain at first. But... he complied. The teenager rose back to his feet, Souba gone. He stood solidly, as if recovering the demeanour that he would normally have.
"Mother... guides me to our brothers," he answered, honestly. He did not define what quality one needed to be a "brother" though. Kadaj didn't know himself. "I sensed you here and came. But it felt... different. I wasn't sure what to think."

"You find...brothers?" Now Sephiroth found himself interested. His attention was no longer divided elsewhere. Was Kadaj useful?
"Kadaj, there is another brother, one I am sure is one of us." The "us" was particularly difficult for Sephiroth to manage. "He will be even more so different than I. He owes us all Kadaj, he is a traitor."

"A traitor?"
The teenager seemed shocked at the idea. Someone had.... betrayed Mother? One of her own sons!? Why would anyone do such a thing?
"Is he..." the boy seemed to spark with a hidden well of cruelty that bubbled easily to the surface, wishing for a chance to seethe out. "Is he the reason she's not here anymore?"
Kadaj had never questioned the reason for he absence before, only that she had to be found. But now...

"That is enough for now Kadaj." Sephiroth pondered on what to say next. How much could this boy handle?
"Am I right to think you've got other brothers close to us now?" If this was the case....Sephiroth was now rather pleased. It only made sense, Mother would assemble useful pieces of a puzzle, not mere pieces for the sake of.

How much should he trust this man? Whenever he asked a question Kadaj honestly felt like telling him all he knew. Was that Mother's will? He wasn't used to not being the one "in charge".
"There are three of us," Kadaj explained. "The other brothers we find... they have never been the same as we are. Or you."

"You three have much to learn. Many important things....if you all are not aware of them. If it's not obvious, I am Mother's first." Sephiroth wondered just how much he had to tell them.
"What is your first memory?"

'Mother's... first?'
Despite the shaky trust Kadaj found this claim impossible to refute. He had always known, deep down, that Mother was using them to seek out someone. Someone that could help revive her, he had guessed. But Kadaj also felt like it was someone she found more worthy of the task than himself... and that jealousy was alive deep inside his heart.
Kadaj shook his head as if suddenly beset by something in his own mind.
"No more," he whispered audibly.

Sephiroth held an arm out to Kadaj. "Then no more. We will find our brothers." If Sephiroth had to lead brothers, he would. For Mother, he would do anything.

The hand was smacked away by another with a teenage temper tantrum guiding it. Kadaj leaped up and landed on a higher floor of this particular room, the opening to another tunnel behind him.
"Are you really the one we've been looking for!?" Kadaj demanded, right hand over his heart. "Why are you better for saving Mother than we are!?"
He missed hearing her voice clearly now. Feeling subservient to this man instead of Mother directly? It was unbearable!

Kadaj's actions didn't bother Sephiroth much. If he had to endure fits, he would. It would all lead him to Cloud in the end. How exactly he went about handling them...well that was his choice.
A black wing shot out from Sephiroth's right side, which he used to swiftly meet Kadaj in a full on charge. "Do you want to hear what Mother is saying now? Will that please you?" Sephiroth let go of Mother's voice, though to be honest her voice shifted to Kadaj. He had no doubt the rejection Kadaj would find in what he was asking for. There was no match for Sephiroth. "Does that make you happy?"
