Audition post (400 words):

Deep below the surface of the ocean there was a wondrous world, a underwater world. A new kind of life, a life with scales. With fins and tails. This world was the home to a young red-headed mermaid, who envied the world above her. The human world. She collected treasures of all kinds, trinkets. Anything that floated below the surface of the ocean the young female mermaid found a hobby of collecting. She would often times wander through sunken ships, looking for 'buried' treasures. It was a dangerous hobby, but the treasures were so wondrous. It was the closest the young mermaid could get to the humans, she fantasized over the statues of the men she found. The music boxes that had dancing figurines on them. She had a dream of being above the surface, and falling in love with a handsome man.

Her father forbids her to make contact with the humans though, the young mermaids' fascination angers her father. And he had found her wandering above the surface, and she was tattletale on by none other than the crab, Sebastian, who was told to watch over Ariel by her father King Triton. Ariel doesn't quite agree with her father and instead keeps the human items she finds in a grotto. She would have visited it today, if it wasn't that her father locked her in her room at the underwater castle. Her only company is her best friend a fish by the name of Flounder.

"How can father do this to me.." the young fishy-girl thought aloud to the yellow-blue fish floating in front of her as she rests on a seabed, her hand resting under her chin. She rolled over onto her back, staring up at the water above her. Her ember red hair was sprawled out, flowing with the current. She had a green fish tail and it was curled up. She has purple seashells covering her chest. She took a brush from a box near her bed and slowly started to run it through her red long hair.

"He just wants to protect you, Ariel." The mermaid's young friend said to her, trying to reassure her. But, it probably didn't work.

After Ariel finished brushing her hair she put her brush away into her box and closed it. She sat up straight, her flaring red hair resting on her shoulders. "I'll try and get out of here..I hate being cooped up in here. I'd much rather be with my collection, instead of at some musical. Who would miss me?"

"I don't think it would be a good idea, Ariel." Her fishy friend tried to advice her, but once Ariel had her sights on something she just wouldn't give up.

"There's got to be something here..that could become a makeshift key. Flounder, help me look." Ariel said as she swam towards her dresser and began to rummage through it, looking for any kind of small object that would fit through a key hole. Something sharp that would pick the lock. She practically turned the drawers of her dresser upside down, the objects that had been inside of them floating in the water. Moving along with the current.

"Ariel..."

She went on with trying to find something, she went through her jewelry box. Taking out ever necklace and earrings from it, she finally found a sharp needle like object at the bottom of it. She held it up for Flounder to see and to announce her accomplishment. "This should do it.." She swam quickly to her door and inserted the pointy metal object into the keyhole, jigged it around for a bit. She heard a small click. She instantly tried the handle of the door, it turned. "Come on Flounder..." She said to him as she swam out of her room, to freedom.

She needed to be quick and careful, her father or her older sisters along with Sebastian could be lurking at any corner of the underwater castle. She made quick of her job, moving from one hiding spot to another. Taking short cuts, she was slowly making her way to the boundaries of the castle. Towards the open ocean. Where she could be free. She looked back every so often to make sure Flounder was following, he was. Slowly. "Come on Flounder..." She whispered to him as she moved on, she reach the arch. Her exit. She swam quickly, moving her scaly green tail quickly.

"Ariel!" She heard that accent, it was Sebastian. The crab. She turned around, towards him.

She tried to act innocent, "Yes, Sebastian?" She said sweetly, holding her hands behind her back.

"Where are you going?"

Ariel quickly swam towards Sebastian and scooped him up in her arms, "You'll see.." She said as she swam through the arch, towards the open sea. To freedom. Flounder was swimming behind her. She swam towards the surface. She was free, but had to take grumpy Sebastian with her. At least maybe with him she wouldn't get into too much trouble. Daddy would be furious with young Ariel. Maybe he already was, had he found her room empty? She didn't want to return anytime soon, they wouldn't miss her for the performance. They did it all the time and it was getting old, Ariel had other things on her agenda. Discover new things. Find new treasures, human treasures. And maybe one day, have legs. Marry a young handsome man, like the one detailed on the statue in her grotto of treasures.

Very Ariel like. She's never been my favorite princess, but I've seen The Little Mermaid plenty of times. XD Rebellious, curious, like...most princess, but I think you've got the dialogue and the action down. And even the personality.

Ariel is my favorite princess!!! XD Always has been. i love mermaids. Second in line was Jasmine, and third was a tie between Pocahontas and Mulan...though Mulan was never really a princess...was she? O.o

Anyway, 2/2 accepted. Yay Ariel! Yay Katsumi!
