Audition post (400 words):
"Bwaaah!!"
Spoon almost to her mouth, Raimu Bito paused mid bite as the sound of her brother's wailing echoed through their family's apartment. Clad in shorts and a t-shirt, her usual bedtime attire, as well as her ever present black beanie and necklace, which never came off, her curious blue eyes stared at the door that separated her brother's bedroom from the rest of the home. Various sounds of destruction could be heard behind the walls.
"Beat?" she called out, a bit concerned for her older brother's safety. Setting her breakfast aside, the young girl quickly got up and hopped the few feet to his room. "Beat? You ok in there?" she once again called for him from outside his door. The sounds had subsided, though whether or not that was a good thing was yet to be known. Curious, but cautious, Rhyme slowly slid next to the door- her fist poised to knock.
"Yo, Rhyme!!"
A small yelp followed in response to her brother's sudden, booming voice as he opened the door and walked out from his room.
"You seen it? I can't find it, yo!"
From her new vantage point on the floor, the startled girl gave a weak smile. 'At least he's alright,' she concluded with some relief, despite the scare. "Find what? Maybe I can help. What are you looking for, Beat?" she asked before taking the hand her brother had offered to help her up with. Despite his one track mind at times, he was always aware enough to help out his little sister, whom he was especially protective of.
Death, it would seem, had a way of changing people- whether they wanted to change or not.
"Bwaaah! I looked everywhere, yo! My bed, the closet, the sink, and even the fridge! Man, I hope I didn' leave it at schoo'. Whoa! Did I leave it at the park!? I gotta bounce over there an'..."
"Wait, Beat! What are you trying to...?" Rhyme tried to ask once more as to what he was looking for, but it was too late. He was already out the door and flying down the stairs. "Beat! Those that hurry are always behind!" she called out to him, but to no avail. He was long gone.
While there was no way to catch up to her brother, she at least knew where he would be going. After a quick change of clothes, Rhyme picked up both her skateboard and her brother's before heading quickly, but carefully, out the door. To some, this might have been an annoyance. To Rhyme, this was life, and she loved every minute of it.
Then again, maybe some things didn't change, even after death.
