I was wondering, maybe we could hand out gifts. Someone turns a year older, they get a gift. Or if someone's anniversary comes along (meaning that the day they joined comes along) they get a gift (though this second one may be hard to do, unless the members let someone know when they've been here for a year).
These gifts could be something as simple as Munny, or even a "gift certificate" that allows them to get a free item(s) from one of the shops. The certificate would be good for up to a certain price. Other gift ideas include synthesis items of a rarer quality (or common although if someone is around for a year that should merit a harder to get synthesis item is they are used as gifts).
I realize my birthday just passed, and that's what got me thinking about this idea. I would be exempt from getting a birthday present should this idea be put into effect (as it has already passed, unless the other staff decides they want to get me something cause of the fact it wasn't but a few days ago, then by all means, do so XD).
I figured hey, a birthday is a special day in real life, why shouldn't it be here? And then I started thinking about my time here, and how long I've been on FM. So I asked, why don't we reward members for how long they've been here. Of course there would have to be some requirements in order for them to qualify (so to make sure that we aren't wasting our time giving them said things).
They would have to be semi-active. Meaning they can't just have joined, then disappeared for three months, only to come back after their birthday or whatever (unless they had good reason for doing so). In order to get the gift certificate, they have to rp, same with synthesis materials.
Feel free to put in your own ideas, or agree with mine or whatever. I figured this would be a good way to not only congratulate people for their time here and whatever, but also a way to encourage activity and rping.
EDIT: Any aniverseries that haven't been within let's say the last week (at the latest) would not count. Those people would have to wait until it comes around again.

Why not? Just decide who ought to do it. As for activity, the gift giver ought to do some kind of activity check, if posts haven't happened in one month (excuses don't matter, excuses could be spun so much out of proportion) or they're a one month member, no gift.
However, birthday only. How long someone has been on FM is really questionable. We've all lost an account on here at one time, between the edition changes, and we've all experienced periods of inactivity. We also should not reward the current members more than we do; a progressive and broad occasion for birthdays, like this is enough.
To the givers of gifts.... Admin/Gmods- nah, they have other things to do, besides checking everyday for birthdays to give gifts. C-mods- Better things to check everyday than check for birthdays. Q-mods- Quests, I think that says enough.
So the only people with positions currently I think with the time and availability, without overloading them, would be myself or Katsumi. I only work my position every other month, while managing smaller things in between. Kats has her hands full when she's doing graphics, but she'd be ideal for possibly making it all spiffy. Maybe the two of us could even work in cohesion?
I really do not think a new position should be made just to give gifts. Please don't let that happen.

I've seen this done before on other forums. Generally the gift is a cash prize of a denomination that looks impressive (usually around 20-40 posts) but isn't particularly notable in the long run.
Checks don't really *need* to be done. So long as the member shows up for their birthday (and posts in the shop board). Honestly, very few people can shatter the game with 100 or even 200 munny once a year. If they're lying about their birthday, oh well.
NB: This is just a 'what I have seen done before' post. Feel free to crit, but I prolly won't argue this out. xD

Gift givers >quest reward givers? That's a lot of responsibility for one/two people, concerning gifts. Giving them even more "prize" allocations on top of supposed duties already, I only for-see the task not getting done when time crunches happen or there is mass activity. If the gift is one widely accepted thing, why can't others do it? Really, you and I seem the best candidates. Should be: On birthdays. 100-200 munny, maybe a gift certificate as well. A minimum check should be done so people can't just expect this to be done and the people left doing this aren't constantly being hounded. (month of inactivity and new members under one month, nope) Can be done in the Announcement Board under one thread? There's no reason this ought to be drawn out over a long period of time, it's more responsibility, but done to reward members for activity and long time commitment as well as their birthday. People showing up just before their birthday should be given a fair deal of scrutiny, or those with sketchy activity that miss the single month of activity. This should be a privilege to keep, not a right that you can defend.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 'new' member of the month getting a reward of some sort, honestly. But I feel that if we start giving more veteran members rewards, it might lead to bad blood.
Events... well...
The easiest would be just a general holiday thread where all participants get something (maybe a unique equip or item?). Second easiest would be a posting marathon lasting a day, or maybe a posting marathon done on every day of the week with different prizes on each day.
But... Someone's going to have to run them. xD

This thread is getting off-topic, let's address Angelus's suggestion first.

I see the trouble with anniversaries. Too much of a hassle. As for the activity check, I agree 100%. It should span a month before a person's birthday, and if they keep it hidden from users, in order to get their gift, they have to either post it up in a thread saying when their birthday is, or pm those in charge. If they post that their activity is going to be sketchy, keep an eye on them, but don't outright say that ruins their chances. As long as they can get on a few days before their birthday, or even the day of (pending these circumstances), they should get it. If I'm not making sense let me know, and I'll try to explain it better.

Oh oh sorry! Yes, back to Angie's suggestion!
Hmm, maybe to go along with the munny gift, there could be like a graphic made for them for their birthday, like a birthday sig to make them feel special. (yes, graphic/sig made by your's truly)

Or Loveless depending on whether or not the person has a preference. In fact when Katsumi was speaking of a birthday set, she was referring to the one I asked her to make for me! I love it btw, and I'll probably use it for a while, and if I change out of it, I'll bring it back every year for my birthday.

So is there a standard for this or no? The longer the thread goes on the less likely it'll get passed or noticed by admin.
If we let people come back before their birthday Angelus, we're telling them that inactivity is fine if you want to be rewarded. I thought the point of this was to reward consistent activity throughout the year. Do you see my point?

The coming back before your birthday would only apply to those who have posted saying that their activity would be iffy. It wouldn't work for anyone else. Otherwise you're correct.

I imagine that also will be interesting to see, assuming most people remember about this, but until we see it no reason to discuss it anymore. Agree? I'm all for this to go through.
