Physical appearance ~ : Nothing quite stands out when it comes to Travis’s body. Skinny really isn’t a word to describe this alchemist student. He’s just normal, flat bellied but without abs and with little muscle tone. He’s even without a tan, due to him not really attempting to get one. The acolyte stands at a normal 5’6, though he’s usually in a slouch, so you can’t really tell his real height.
As for specific details, Travis’ only defining feature is his right ear, which has a split in the lobe. Other details would be the color of his eyes being a light green. His eyebrows are slightly thicker than a well kempt female’s. He’s not exactly heterosexual; it’s just that his eyebrows grow dreadfully slow. His nose is smaller than it should be, so it doesn’t take up as much space on his face. His mouth, on the other hand, is noticeably larger for someone his age. He doesn’t have plump lips, or anything. He’d fear social interaction if they were.
His light red hair is quite messy, looking as if it was taken off of a mop that had just been cleaning Kool-Aid. It covers his forehead and only three small strands fall under his eyebrows. The hair gathers up into a few dull spikes in the back and sweep to the right naturally, Travis being unable to keep it straight. His hands are larger than the males in the family when they were his age.
Clothing/Accessories ~ : As an acolyte of the Alchemic School of Ro Cla, Travis is instructed to wear is school garbs during the weekdays and, if possible, the weekends. This set of clothes starts off with a skin tight, gray undershirt with sleeves that stretch to the wrists. Over this is a red jacket with a blend of white (for males), or blue (for females). This jacket is a lot more spacey than the undershirt, leaving room for complicated movements. It has black stripes that are held to the clothing by silver buckles. This, of course, keeps the jacket together and from revealing anyone’s chest. The jacket also sports a robe like appendage that sways behind anyone when they run.
A black belt with a brass buckle holds up a pair of black pants that leave enough room for moderate-paced running. Black socks are to be worn with the red and white shoes given to the students upon orientation on the first day. The shoes are slip-on with either two metal buckles with straps, or two studs. As long as this clothing is worn, the students may wear anything else as long as it doesn’t interfere with school. Travis chose to wear fingerless gloves and a medium scarf.

Alignment ~ : Neutral
Behavior ~ : Travis is very quiet when it comes to people. He really has nothing to say to anyone, since he doesn’t exactly hang out with them. He’s also not “in touch” with what is popular, so this counts towards his little social interaction. The only time he speaks to someone is when he’s helping them study for a test, helping them with an alchemic spell, etcetera. Studying is what this acolyte does in his spare time, completely giving up time with what friends he has to learn more about the origin of alchemy. He’d rather dissect the basic “Rock” magic than go see a movie, which obviously hinders his chances at a date with any type of woman.
Another hindrance could be that he isn’t a smooth operator when it comes to the ladies. Even if he does have interest in women, he sees no reason for one at the moment, since he can’t exactly support a woman’s needs financially. He only goes to school for his parents who barely keep the food on the table. This is why he’d rather torture himself by studying than be off in normal school, becoming a lawyer or scholar. In Ro Cla exclusively, alchemists that prove themselves worthy gain more power and get plenty of money. Such devotion brings tears to his parent’s eyes, it seems.
As an alchemist, it is Travis’s job to delve into the creation of life and to dissect things that don’t make sense. He has done this for over two years now and has come to realize that this is much more than a simple act of doing something. It’s a way to live, something that grows and feeds off of pure knowledge. This contributes to his studying and constant note writing. His goal in life also takes a fair share of the blame for his personality.
It’s more like every alchemist’s life goal, though. An attempt to become immortal and become a Seraph by finding the Philosopher’s Stone; it’s the perfect goal. Others believe it to be complete nonsense, but not those of Ro Cla. It’s a creed that the citizens live by and is even a religion to those who take it more seriously than it ought to be taken.

Primary Weapon(s)
ID: Alchemist’s Mind
Quality: Excellent
Travis’s ability to do complicated things. What else is there to really say about it?
[Weak Ability: Incredible Buff]
[Description]: After much calculation and experimentations, some of which completely failed, Travis has manipulated the effectiveness of his spells. Well, at least the ones he uses as an advanced student of alchemy.
[Technical Description: This adds a single level of effectiveness to all equips Travis owns. For example, since Fire II deals Weak fire damage, it now deals Moderate damage.]
[Uses: Two times for each spell]
[Weak Ability: Remedy for the Weak]
[Description]: Anyone, alchemist or not, knows how to create special remedies that help them throughout the battle, or even with daily things. Travis isn't a major at the concoction subject, but he knows enough to make a potion that gives his spells more 'umph' in their punch.
[Technical Description: This ability gives Travis's spells an upgrade for a few uses. Anything weak in strength goes to Moderate, Moderate goes to Strong and Strong stays the same. This can't be used in conjunction with Incredible Buff to make Weak strengths Strong.]
[Uses: Twice for each spell. Used when Travis desires. One use per battle.]
[Moderate Ability: Spell Slinger]
[Description]: During the tedious training and through all of those Board inspections, Travis has been able to perfect his spells. The student can quickly recite those perfected spells and has been able to cut down on the magic they consume, thus allowing him to conjure them faster.
[Technical Description]: This ability gives all of Travis’s equips three more uses in battle.
[Uses: Passive]
Secondary Weapon(s)
ID: Alchemic Saber
An Academic Field Test regulated blade. A simple blade, no more than an arm’s length. The hilt is bronze with a ruby stone on the pommel. It’s held in a sheath on his back.

In 2000 BY, two ships full of nomadic peoples travels the expansive seas with the intent on claiming new land for themselves. As the colder weather draws near, they plan to settle in the next area they come by, regardless of what it looks like. To be approximate, there were thirty people completing what would be considered the most important point in history. After a month of searching for new land, they came upon what they called “Mother”, a continent with plenty of resources. These people had no other choice, since the snow had already started to fall and freeze their food and fresh water.
It took a few days, but the nomads finally found areas for themselves, some claiming the north and south, while others took the middle ground. Camps were set up with whatever the nomads could find in the freezing snow and soon, half of the land was filled with these travelers. After three months of what seemed like never-ending snow, the ice began to melt and make way for the green grass and tall trees. This was the time that the nomads did all of their gathering and farming. With water coming in from the snow, they only needed to harvest and check on their crops to get food. With safer work spaces, the peoples cut down trees for sturdier and warmer buildings.
For a hundred years, these nomads settled in and became native to these rewarding lands. Evolution began to take place, but very slowly. It started with the creation of newer tools and weapons to hunt game with. It expanded to the methods of building homes and making them ideal for all types of weather. It also meant newer beliefs, which meant conflict. This conflict didn’t exactly take place until about present time, maybe five hundred years ago from today. It was when the continent began to change physically, creating mountains and sinking fortresses and even creating a desert.
For this, we’ll have to travel to 1600 AF to find out how this conflict began. In 1600 AF, there was a spreading science that called upon magic in order to accomplish goals. To some, it was no more than a way to pass the time, to others it was religion. Either way, it was a science called alchemy. This science was used across the continent now named Omnir and it was highly recognized as near perfect. To most natives, it was perfect. It’s what drove most of them out of bed in the morning.
It was still flawed, though, and select people were set on finding these flaws and using them to create their own science. It would take a lot of convincing evidence that the new science was better than alchemy and its practices. Indeed it took almost over three hundred years to fully create what is now called “Chemistry”. This took all of those flaws from alchemy and made sure they didn’t show up in this new way of life. It totally threw out alchemy and made something from scratch, which gathered attention quicker than flies to butter.
These people who believed in chemistry over alchemy tried to convince everyone that they were right about everything. Sadly, it just resulted in the north portion of Omnir being separated into two parts. The northern area was named Ylister, while the middle was named Ro Cla. Ylister was reserved for believers in chemistry, while Ro Cla was, obviously, for alchemists. There was a bottom area which was secluded behind the mountain ranges. This area was called Slurtk and these people believed in alchemy, but tended to keep away from conflict between the two main sides. Now we divert our attention to Ro Cla in general so we can finish our history lesson.
Ro Cla
In 1900 AF, a school was founded by Renald Iliard that taught alchemic subjects to teenagers who wished to pursue life as an alchemist. At first, there were mixed emotions about this academy, but after a few years of promising results, there wasn’t a teenager who didn’t want to go to these schools. Still, it wasn’t just the devotion you had for alchemy that got you in and kept you in; it also had to deal with your performance in classes. If you were utterly useless and couldn’t prove yourself in front of the Board of Alchemists, then you were expelled.
It was a hard life to live, but if you did well, you stepped a bit farther into a good life. In 2000 AF, there was a ruckus about what to do with the Chemistry Academy in Ylister. This would be the cause of much controversy between the Boards that controlled the lands. In 2003 AF, there was another occurrence that was accepted by each Government; the Academic Field Test.
This test would pit select students in a trek across all of Omnir to collect as much knowledge as possible. After they believe they are ready, the chosen students will travel back and present themselves to the Boards and will be given a set of tests. These tests were split into two parts; a written essay and then sparring matches for those who wish to participate in for extra credit. All schools would participate whether they were prepared, or not. To be honest, most students were slightly startled when they were chosen for this series of tests.
”That is all for today, class. Please take care of yourselves. I want to see every last one of you in class tomorrow.” The teacher, one Ms. Loras, stood in the front of the class, spectacles resting on the bridge of her petit nose, holding a sizable book in her hands. It was simply titled “Abridged History of Omnir: Volume One Recap”. The class, which numbered to about twenty-two teens, scrambled about the room as they went for the door. The bell was just about to ring and the students anticipated this day for such a long time that it wasn’t even funny.
Still, there always was someone who dreaded the end of the day, not for the sake of class, but because of their life at home. This certain individual was named Travis Sykes. He was a seventeen year-old and was, as stated by a member of the Board, “an aspiring alchemist”. Honestly, he didn’t see how he was much different from his friends who studied the same way he did. He guessed it was just to comfort the students. You had to wonder, though; how do they single out aspirers from slackers? It took a keen eye, apparently.
Travis was nothing really interesting. He was like every other teenager these days. He wanted to become an alchemist and get rich and famous for doing something amazing that would change the course of alchemy forever. Such worthless dreams, these were. Travis only endured such harsh training to pay for his family and make them proud. To be honest, Travis could care less about doing something miraculous. He needed money to stay alive and that was his only driving force.
In his spare time, the acolyte would simply study and practice alchemic recipes and spells. This allowed him to stay in the school after presenting himself to the Board every year. It was just wasted time, the Board inspections were. Why he had to be graded by his performance at such a prestigious place as the Board was beyond him. Anyways, back in reality, the bell had just rung and the students crammed through the threshold like bees coming out of the same, tiny hole of the beehive. Travis walked normally, making sure not to get in the way of ‘busy’ students.
Everyone headed towards the auditorium where most school related speeches were held, excited about today’s special dialogue. As always, the enormous room was dark, albeit a few lights that were lined down the walkways. In no more than then minutes, the entire school body was seated and ready to listen, for once. For you see, today was no ordinary day; it was the day the representative for the school was chosen. The principal walked onto the stage, accompanied by three other headmasters and their chosen students. There were two females and one male in the bunch, the male seeming inferior due to the mass number of women at the given moment.
”Students! I’ve gathered you here today for one special reason! Today, we choose our representative for the Academic Field Tests! Now, I know you’re all excited, so we’ll cut straight through the mumbo jumbo! Our chosen student is a very smart, cunning teen that always showed promise with his work. He continued to show this throughout the Board inspections and through tests of our own. So, ladies and gentleman, I present to you our 2009 representative!”
The male in the group seemed relieved to know that he wasn’t going to be the only male in the exams. The females in the auditorium silently whispered among each other, singling out the boys they thought would become the chosen student. It was obviously all directed towards those who were popular in the school. All of the good talk was about them and never the minority of the men. This time, though, something felt different. The principal’s eyes weren’t even on the popular students, but they singled someone out way in the back. No one really noticed, but it struck them hard when the name was announced.
”Students, your 2009 representative for the Academic Field Test is… Travis Sykes! Travis, would you so kindly come to the stage?”[/color] The students looked back at the single teen, piercing him with their cold stares. Without hesitation, Travis got from his seat and walked down the lit walk way. It wasn’t as surprising as Travis thought it would be. He was chosen for something very important that would chose which school got the additional funding. As soon as the acolyte walked into the solid spot light, the principal began to speak again.
”Everyone give a round of applause for Travis Sykes!” The student body all clapped their hands with the force of a thousand gorillas, some smiling at him, some a bit down since they didn’t get their chance at winning the Academic Field Tests. Travis stared out, looking quite confused as to why he was so revered now. Maybe it was just something that couldn’t be explained, no matter how much you dissected it with an alchemic thesis.
