Mora was not especially happy just then. Not exactly a mad mood, just... not happy. Frustrated?
Yes, she'd seen the Big Boss come pull Heartless outta his armpit. But she'd stayed to the side, and let everyone else handle it. Sure, she tried a few things, but nothing really helped, you know?
So seeing The Good Guy in a near death action pose had Mora jumping at the cause. "Hey, just a second!" she shouted in the middle of her sudden burst of speed. "I can help! I can heal!"
Coming up to the old geezer, Mora promptly, and carefully, placed a glowing blue hand on the guy's shoulder. Right away, the blue energy swarmed into the man, attacking and fixing whatever wounds the Orias had.
...I think.

The healing spell Mora used had no apparent effect on Orias. He shook his head sadly. "I'm afraid that won't work..." He said softly. "You need to understand exactly what I am before I can tell you anything else." He paused, gathering more strength before he continued talking to the group.
"Orias is what we call ourselves. Every Temple has one monk named Orias. In truth, however... We are the Temples themselves." He broke into a hacking cough before going on. "The monks of the Temples are spirits, in a way... manifestations of both the Temple and the Seal, I suppose you could call them. The Orias is a manisfestation of the Temple itself, though. Wounds that it recieve... I recieve."
He sighed. "In my arrogance, I sought only to protect the Seal... The Seal is a full mortal, much like yourselves. He bound himself to me, and in doing so the Temples were Sealed away and he became the Seal. Neither of us believed that the Temples' enemies would seek to destroy the Temple itself, only to break the Seal."
"In short, the Temple is dying. The Seal will die along with the Temple; our lives are bound together too greatly." He fixed them with an intense stare. "Before this happens, you must leave this world."

Mora blinked.
"...so we can't just fix the building?"

Orias shook his head again. "Magic and, for lack of a better term, spirit permeated the walls and bricks of the building. These Temples weren't built... we formed. We were born. It would be as if you put lead to replace your own blood. It would poison us."

"****it!"
The profane eruption came from Kassom who, fully restored now, rose to his feet. His expression was one of mixed frustration and disbelief. "So everything we did here, all the Heartless we fought, it all accomplished jack-squat?! Grrrrr... ****it!" He curled his hand into a fist and seemed like he was about to pound it against the wall, but stopped at the last second and sighed instead.
"So this Temple, and all of you, are dying... how the **** do we keep the rest of the Temples safe?! Presuming we can even get there in time!! GRAAAH!" He looked down at the ground, a snarl on his face to cover his disappointment with rage. "All our efforts are a waste, then. There's no way we can stop this guy... it's just impossible!"
"Oi!" Cordell cut in, pointing her finger at the furry rogue. "Shut yer trap an' let th' Orias talk, ye fur-fangled mutt." She turned to the Orias. "So, what do we do? An' what are th' Temples sealin'? Who is this 'ere Seal anywho, an' fer that matter th' bloke as attacked ye?" She crossed her arms over her chest. "We didn't come 'ere t' fail; thar must be somfin' we can do t' stop 'im!"

Mora wasn't quite ready to let go of the possibility of fixing up the temple, though. "But, I mean, even if we just use the original materials? It's not like the Heartless, or that big wierd guy who practically pulled them out of his armpit, stole part of the building!
"Er, Temple. Seal. GAH, whatever this is!" So much for usefulness, eh?

"It bought us time." Orias said. "Suffice it to say, it will not work, child. It is very kind of you to think of ways to help... but we knew this day would come. No spell lasts forever. We knew our fate was sealed the moment we bond our lives together. It is a pity only in that it must come so violently."
"We know nothing of this black-clad man. He is... from after our time, as are all of you. As are many things." Orias's voice was now slightly raspy. "The Seal... when the Seal dies, a powerful Heartless will be released into the world. It is the reason you must leave before that happens. And when you leave, you will take the sacred treasure of the Temple with you. The only hope to stop the five Heartless are the sacred objects. Doubtless this man wants either the objects... or the Heartless themselves, seeing as how he can command them."
"You have proven how powerful you are... doubtless there are many other warriors amongst the worlds now with great strength. We had no such power in those days... That is why we created the Seal. If you can... stop the Heartless! Protect the objects! Ruin his plan!" He broke into another hacking cough.

So... his plan involves taking all the objects, blasting various temples up, or getting control of really evil Heartless.
What?!
"Wait, how can we protect the object- or objects, like you said- and beat the super dang--" Mora stopped. The Orias was mentioning... running away?
"What?! If his plan revolves around getting super bad Heartless bosses, then shouldn't we get rid of them? If he gets his hands on all of them... well, I know I wouldn't want to fight them all at once." Crossing her arms obstinately, Mora gave the Orias a serious frown. "We're supposed to run?" she asked incredulously. "I vote no. Even if it means splitting up, I don't think we should risk that Heartless going anywhere offworld."

"Lets kill him," Alexis interjected nonchalantly, "You fear that he might come to power, then kill him before he gains it," A listless approach, the act of murder was said almost jokingly. He tinkered with his glasses as they slipped down his nose, the sorcerer patiently waited out the situation. So there were beasties sealed with these things, beasties that a certain person seemed hell bent on controlling. Perhaps with the use of these magical items the Orias mentioned.
"Myself, I have no interest in any more conflicts," Alexis dismissed Mora's willingness to do combat and smiled at the Orias' trust, "I'll take guard duty. So where are these enchanted objects, Orias?"

"The Heartless will have been gathering its power since it was sealed away. It will be far too powerful to defeat, even by the group gathered here. However, if you return later, it will have expended its power... destroying the remains of this Temple." Orias explained. "And you must find the others who hold sacred objects. The objects are key."
"And speaking of the objects... Here is ours. The Mask of Flame." One of the monks holding up Orias reached into a hidden pocket of his robe and pulled out a silvery mask. It looked as if it would cover the entire face of whoever wore it, except for the mouth. "The one that wears this shall gain the ability to breath fire. If you will guard the object... then take it." He gave the mask to Alexis.
Item Obtained!
Item: Mask of Flame Item type: Equip, unremovable. Description: A silvery mask that covers the entire face, with holes only for the eyes and the mask. It conforms to the shape of the face, completely obscuring it. It cannot be removed. Abililty: The one wearing the mask gains the ability to breath fire. This takes two forms. A fireball which has a cooldown of one post between uses, and just ordinary flame-breath, with a range of 10 feet. This has no cooldown, but use of the fireball applies the cooldown to both forms.
((Two things. First, the Mask of Flame is only transferable between two of your own characters if you have good reason they would know each other. However, it can be sold on the Free Market.
Second, the objects may not be as key as Orias believes, but they will make the battle easier.))

Expended it's power... by destroying the temple they were supposed to defend.
How's that for a moodkiller?
Mora sighed. Glancing downwards, at nothing in particular, she let the inevitable ending to this come. "Fine. We'll play Keep Away for now. Anything you can tell us about the Heartless for when we come back, though? Or tall, dark, and butt-ugly?"

Alexis took the mask, almost snatching but not from insolence; rather from sheer excitement. He scrutinized it thoroughly. He always did have a penchant for fascinating magical items and this was simply his cup of tea. If the situation were any less dire, why, he'd just plant himself on the ground then and there and start studying the thing.
For about 5 minutes. He was a fast learner. More than that, his interests waned like the moon.
Regaining himself, Alexis bowed to the old Orias, "Thank you, I will destroy any who would dare take this relic from me. Even you," He meant it. Though it was not with such maliciousness and greed as one might think, merely a twisted way of looking at his new found job. Curtly, he opened his suitcase and tossed the mask inside, to be observed at a more convenient time.
"Shall we whisk away now? To where the other relics await our greedy little hands?"

Kassom chuckled grimly. "Yeah, sure, why not. Not like we can do much else at the moment." "I dun' suppose..." Cordell looked sheepishly at the Orias, poking her pointer fingers together with a nervous smile on her face. "... that big ol' diamond on th' roof will survive?" There was dead silence for a moment. The young pirate looked at the ground in disappointment, knowing the answer. That big, beautiful gem was just as much part of this place as anything else. Treasure lost... it was enough to make even the most hardened pirate want to weep. "We've got bigger things to worry about." Kassom reminded everyone. "Like, oh, I dunno... the survival of the worlds?! Let's get back to the ship -- we can plan our next move there." ------------------------------------------------------------- Back on 'The Red Corsair'..."Oh my... this cannot be good." The remark was made in observation of the hastily-constructed temporal distortion resonance detector he'd hot wired into the sensor systems of 'The Red Corsair'. The distortion signals were fading away... at this rate, it wouldn't be long before they were all completely gone! Which told Vates that either his machine had for some reason stopped working right, or... "This simply cannot be good..."

"The Heartless... The powers we have are drawn from it... It, too, shall be related to the sense of smell." Orias explained. "Unfortunately, other than that, I cannot tell you much more. It has been a long, long time..." His eyelids seemed like they were slightly drooping. There was a crumbling sound nearby. "Farewell."

"You may rest now," Alexis nodded and swiftly did as Kassom said. He bade farewell to the temple and followed a path that would lead him back to the ship. It would seem things would only get more interesting from here.
