Newbie Guide to Roleplaying: The Basics
I. Characters
Your character should be completely original but minor details may slide, may not. Do not jack characters from Anime, Manga, Cartoons, Books, ect. The only exception would be canon characters which have already been picked out by the admins. Your characters should be your own creation. Get imaginitive and think up some cool concepts for your character. The race of your character should not be a collosal hovering space hound. Stick to bi-pedal humanoids or strictly humans. Nobodies and Heartless are also allowed but keep it within the humanoid range. You should not be a Behemoth heartless or the Twilight Thorn. Next will be your character's abilities. Try not to use abilities that someone already has or ones that godmode. It gets boring when 20 people are running around, all casting balls of fire at eachother. Have some diversity. Character history should be completely made up by you and try to have it longer than a paragraph. There should be something related to Kingdom Hearts in your history as well. Make your character the best you can. Poorly made characters can be garenteed a one way trip to the Underworld, eventually.
II. Posting
Detail, detail, detail. Details can turn a bland, boring post into a lively one. Details are the highlight of posts and seperate Novices from Advanced RPers. I'll show you through example.
Simple Post:
Zero walked out into the middle of the street. He looked around for a person he was suppose to meet here. "Hey, come out and fight me, coward!" he yelled, pulling out his sword. He continued to look back and forth to try and track any movement of his opponent.
More Advanced Post:
A thick blanket of darkness cast itself over Traverse Town, a lone figure wandering the desolate streets. Soft splashing of raindrops could be heard beating against the sidewalks, roofs, and fountains. Out of the shadows, the figure lurked. The only aspect visible was its two sleek, crimson eyes which could be seen jolting left and right as if it were looking for something in perticular.
"Come out of your hiding place, Coward. I know you're there!" his voice was thick with aggrivation. His hand slowly moved to the small of his back where he grasped the metal hilt of his blade. It slid out with a soft shink as he readied it in front of him. Knowing for a fact that his opponent lurked somewhere in the shadows, his focus never broke for even a moment as he waited.
To make longer posts, you need more things to post about. The first thing you should know is that short posts are frowned upon. No one-liners. One thing you should remember to do is abuse your character's sense like it's going out of style. In your posts, include what they see, hear, smell, feel, think, and taste. You can also add dialoge. When a character speaks, use quotations (" ") to separate it from other actions. Don't use ** to discribe your characters actions.
Interaction is another key to good posting. Have your character interact with others. If your character is being anti social and just sitting in their dark corner, it will cause bordom of other characters and it will eventually make your posts smaller in size because they arn't doing anything.
Well thought out posts help too. Don't just put this and that together and call it a post. It should have some sort of feeling to it. Sometimes it's difficult to think up what to post so you may get insipration from listening to music, or watching a cool video, or something that simply tickles your fancy.
III. Battling
Rule number one of battling whether it be in an arena fight or in a storyline: Do not Godmode. Godmoding is simply doing things that your character shouldn't be able to do, or not giving your opponent a chance to defend themselves. Saying that you blew your opponent's head apart with darkness when your character can only use light based attacks is an example of godmoding.
Your character and your opponent's character can be killed off without asking consent first. But the character that is dying must accept first. If someone else is trying to kill your character you have every right to defend, flee, or accept the death in most circumstances.
Your abilities will be abused in these fights. You will probably end up useing them a lot depending on the fight. Cooldowns have been initiated so that they are not overly used, though. To make it interesting, don't strictly rely on magical abilities. Weaponry combat can be interesting as well.
To be effective in battle, you character should have a good offence as well as a good defense. Just because your character has powerful attacks doesn't mean they will be able to live through some tricky situations. You need to protect your character mind, body, and soul because you dont know what suprise is lurking around the corner.
Note: This was completely written by myself. I have not plagerized from anyone. I simply used knowledge that I have aquired from my years of RPing.
