Strategy is one of the most important things in battle. You can have a powerful technique, but if you don't use it well you might as well not have it at all. Battle is more then rushing in and attacking. These are some basic fundamentals of strategy. Use them to inspire plans of your own.
1. Analysis. Know your opponent. Ten seconds of studying could save your life. Keep in mind how your opponent moves as he attacks. If you've encountered him before, recall all information you have, and use it. Form the core of your plan around how to counter your opponent's abilities.
2. Adjustment. Things can't always go right. Whether it's a part of your plan that's gone sour or your opponent doing something unexpected, you have to be ready to adjust your plan to the situation. A startled strategist is usually a dead strategist.
3. Caution/Aggression. If your opponent is weaker then you, you need to exploit that weakness quickly. If your opponent is stronger then you, don't take unnecessary risks, unless it's a life or death situation. Which it usually is.
4. Weaknesses. No enemy is without them. Neither are you. Cover your weakness while exploiting your enemy's. If you don't know, find out through analysis. Without exploiting your opponent's weaknesses you'll have a tough time, especially if he's stronger then you.
5. Deceit. Honesty does you no good in battle. If you manage to get your opponent into believing something that is not true, you have an advantage. Whether it's that you are stronger then you appear or that you are in a place you are not, deceit is an important part of any plan.
6. Terrain. Always remember where you are. Your plan can differ greatly depending on where the battle takes place. A desert calls for a very different strategy then a city. Keep in mind that the terrain can change, and use it all to your advantage.
7. Weather. It should always effect your plan. Thunderstorms make it dangerous to use metal but amplifies lightning, snow means your ice attacks will be more effective, the list goes on. Always be sure to adjust as the weather changes.
