Audition post (400 words):
Don’t leave me…
…
Please, don’t leave me…
…
Those were the only words that were resting on the lips of the sleeping summoner. The soft sands were caressing her cheek, interrupting her dreaming with a gentle touch. Her eyes were shut tight, almost as if she was trying to shut out some memory which was haunting her. The memory of a loved one…
The memory of a loss…
The memory of him…
I beg of you…don’t leave me…
The words were hardly above a whisper, but they seemed to echo constantly in the black abysmal dreams of the summoner. She was running…running towards something deep within the shadows. What it was, she didn’t know. Why she wanted it, she couldn’t say. What she was hoping to accomplish…she had no idea. All she knew was that he was there. Whatever lied within the endless sea of darkness was the man she had grown to love in her life. It held the only man that head ever showed her she was more than just a High Summoner’s daughter. It held the only man who ever showed her there was more to life than fulfilling the duty expected of you…
…it held Tidus…
Faster and faster she ran toward the invisible shadow, unable to catch up to it in time. The tears were streaming down her face, reflecting the defeat which was slowly building up inside of her…but she wouldn’t give up. She refused to give up, not as long as there was a fiber of life left in her being. She would run until she could run no farther…yell until her voice cracked from strain…reach until her arms grew sore from stretching…but she would never give up. Then, something suddenly caught her foot, making her fall flat on her face. The two blue and green eyes were now red with the tears, staring at the shadow…and she had given up…
…but then she woke…
Her multi-colored eyes slowly fluttered open, trying to look down at the irritation on her cheek. Something wet was washing up against her face, making her somewhat fair complexion stand out even more in the sun’s golden rays. Pushing herself up into a sitting position on the sandy beach, Yuna’s hand rose up to feel her cheek. It was wet…from the ocean, obviously. Her white sleeve gently brushed against her other arm, which was folded across her lap. A small gasp came from the innocent summoner upon feeling the sleeve brush up against her, but this sudden fear was quickly cast aside when she saw what brushed up against her. Giving herself a very innocent smile, Yuna pushed herself off of the sand into a standing position.
She had been sleeping for three hours…
When she laid herself down upon the soft, pale sands of Besaid’s beach, the sun was barely rising up in the sky, signaling the onset of a new day. Now…looking up at the golden sky, she could see it was going onto mid-day already. She had slept away the entire morning…Wakka wouldn’t be pleased with her. Brushing off the sand from her white wrap-around and black tank-top, Yuna checked to make sure she was at least presentable to her friends. Her staff was on the sand, she didn’t have any sand on her shirt, and her blue, floral-print dress didn’t have anything on it. The only thing that was missing was her shoes, but she wasn’t feeling like wearing them. And so, she grabbed her staff and set off for the village…
…with the wind blowing gently at her back…
Stopping suddenly in her tracks, Yuna’s blue and green gaze looked back to the wind. Something felt…odd about the breeze. It was almost as if it was gently pushing her back to her friends. As she was looking back, the wind began to blow harder, making her chestnut hair blow into her eyes. Shutting off her gaze from the beach, Yuna turned her head and brushed her light brown locks away. There was something so…familiar about that breeze…almost as if someone was telling the wind to take her back to Besaid Village. One last gaze into the horizon, and the breeze blew harder, almost as if to confirm Yuna’s suspicions…
…and that was all it took to make her move again.
Taking off at a slow pace along the path, Yuna’s mind slowly began to move back to the strange dream. That shadow…it was haunting all of her dreams recently, but she didn’t know why. In all of her dreams, she ended up in the same position, crying about the loss of something she couldn’t identify. She felt as if she knew what was in the shadow…but there was no way for her to figure out what it was. If only she could reach it…but she wasn’t fast enough. She never was fast enough…
…and she never would be…
Closing her eyes and blocking the thought out from her mind, Yuna’s pace along the path quickly came to a halt. She didn’t want to think about that…she couldn’t lose any more of her friends, not after Sin. She refused to lose them…no…it wouldn’t happen ever again. Tidus had to leave, but no one else did. They were all safe…they were all happy at last. Nothing had to tear them apart. They could finally live in peace, away from pain and away from suffering. Nothing else had to hurt them. Tears slowly began to fall down her face once more, making it harder for her to stay strong in that moment of weakness. She hadn’t forgotten about Tidus…not for a second. And she never would…
Then, suddenly, the wind began to blow once more.
Yuna, feeling her tears blowing away in the wind, felt the calming breeze caressing her should, just like Tidus did. She could swear that Tidus’s presence was in the wind…but she knew it wasn’t possible. Gripping her staff looser than before, one last tear rolled down her face, only to be swept away by the breeze. It was him…she could tell. Somewhere across the vast ocean’s, she knew Tidus was waiting for her to return to him. She just had to find him…
…and she would…
She didn’t care how long it took her. She didn’t care how much pain she put herself into. She didn’t care if it would kill her, she was going to find him. The tears stopped rolling down her face, and her gaze became fixated on the horizon. Wherever he was…she knew she’d find him out there. The grip on her staff suddenly tightened as she formed her resolve inside of her mind. That very day, she would approach Wakka and tell him she was going on another trip across the sea. It didn’t matter what he said, nothing would convince her to stay. She wouldn’t lose him…
Not again…
Then, suddenly, the wind began to blow once more, pushing her more toward the village. She even lost her footing for a moment, but a quick check of her balance and she was fine. Her pace took off somewhat quicker than before, and her staff was held firmer than ever before. She knew what she had to do…and she wouldn’t let anyone stop her from pursuing Tidus. The wind never stopped blowing, but the tears didn’t come back. She couldn’t cry…because she knew he wasn’t lost. She knew he was out there…and she would find him.
No matter how long it took…
I won’t lose you…
…
I…I can’t lose you…
…
…I…I love you…
