Audition post (400 words):
There was nothing. Just...emptiness. No feelings, no light, no darkness. Just...existence in nonexistence. And slowly, very slowly, Zexion became aware that he was, in fact, alive.
Life...
He opened his eyes...and saw nothing. It was black, completely black. He could see himself but nothing else. This was true nothingness. And here he was, to fade away slowly....
fade...NO! I will not allow myself to end here! I cannot die...not like this!
And with that thought, everything changed. His invisible shackles were gone, and he fought with all his strength, pushing on, ever forward, ever forward. There was only one thought in his head.
Keep going...keep going...keep going...
Not even this nothingness could hold him back. He would never give up, ever. And with his raw determination, his desperate struggle to survive, the emptiness folded before him, and he fell into darkness...
This would be the end for most. But darkness was Zexion's ally. He called forth his power, and wrenched a door open out of the shadows. With one final push, he entered, and was free. Zexion was alive.
............
It was a beautiful day. This he could feel. Birds were chirping, and soft sunlight rested on his face. ...Unwelcome sunlight. he opened his eyes, shooting upright. He was lying against a wall in the middle of a town....An awfully familiar town. Getting to his feet quickly, he turned his head...
And there it was. The castle of Radiant Garden. The site of his experiments, and of his fall to nothingness. Somehow, unbelievably, he had landed back here again.
Frowning, he gathered his thoughts. What had happened to him? How had be been thrust into that horrifying maw of nothingness? What had...Axel. That scheming coward. After Riku saw through his illusion, that flame-haired scoundrel set that Replica on him...And the deed was done. Somehow, he had been reconstructed inside that realm of nothingness.
Curious...very curious. What was even more curious was how well the town looked these days. Zexion's last memory of it was being overrun by Heartless. It would appear that somehow they had been fought off...Impressive indeed.
For now, the wisest course would be to gather information. Riku and Sora were on the warpath when he "died", and there was a chance the Organization was vanquished now. That would be most ironic indeed...vanquished by the very weapon your ambition was built around.
A problem, however. Usually Zexion used underlings to gather information...his social skills were somewhat...lacking. Even when it came to speaking with the other Organization members, he merely had no time to expand his skill set into speaking on equal terms. Still, however, he had to try.
...Which his how he found himself sitting across from a drunken old man, at his absolute best in speaking...meaning he didn't insult the other every sentence.
"Now lemme tell you, young man, the only proper way to drink is by the bottle!"
"Yes yes, you've told me that about fifteen times. Answer my question already!"
"Oh...you mean about them hooded fellas? Cause they've gone and got themselves killed.."
Zexion leaned forward. Finally, true information. Twenty minutes listen to this fool rant on and he had hit the metaphorical jackpot. "You're sure of this?"
"Oh aye, sure as sure can be. The Committee sure bragged their fair share over it...Somethin` about some tiny spike-head with a keysword or whatnot."
The Schemer leaned back. So...they were dead. Or perhaps not...He had survived, after all, why not his comrades? At any rate, they seemed to have suffered a similar fate as him...
"Thank you for your information, old fo-er, sir."
An off-charter wave was his only reply....the old man was chugging the drink down again. With a sigh, and a mutter of "humans.." the Shadow Walker exited the pub.
The sky had darkened. Rain was coming, a clear sign. Such trivial things as the weather were of no concern to Zexion, though. The next course of action was at hand, namely, locate any survivors...And kill that traitorous redhead if he could.
The darkness sprung forth, swallowing him whole. And as it vanished, so did he.
The Shadow-Walking Schemer had returned.
