Audition post (400 words):
...Chihiro…
One word…
How could one simple word hold so much meaning to him? He knew she was gone, and he knew they would probably never see each other again, but for some reason…he didn’t want to believe it. She was more than just a close friend to him, she was practically a part of him. The two were connected long before they realized it, and fate brought them together. And yet…fate also decided to separate them. He knew it was pointless to try and think over this anymore, but there was something inside of him that he just couldn’t let go. That girl who came into his life so suddenly…that girl which he saved when she was naught but an infant…
…that girl who set him free…
The light brown eyes of the seemingly young youth looked straight ahead, as emotionless as ever. He passed by countless employees of the bath house as he did every day, only there was much more on his mind. “Hello, Master Haku!” They would practically yell, and he would give them an abrupt nod in return. Yubaba had been waiting for him…just as she always was with some sort of unbearable chore for him to do that would most likely cost him his life. The last one he did…practically killed him. If it wasn’t for Chihiro, he would’ve been nothing more than a dragon corpse, sitting at the bottom of the large ocean formed from that rainstorm.
…but that was long ago…
Now, Haku no longer had the connection to his dragon form. His true form. He had returned to his human appearance once he remembered his true name. Nigihayami Kohakunushi…every time he said it he felt a new energy flowing through him. However, he was faced with a problem more serious than death itself. He hadn’t yet told Yubaba of his…temporary loss of his dragon form. Chihiro might’ve freed his spirit from her shackles, but it also confined the power she gave him. How was he to continue in this bath house without his other form? Keeping his expression free from emotions, he stepped into the elevator and pulled the lever up.
She would tear him to shreds.
As the elevator rose up higher and higher, Haku’s expression began to truly show how he felt. He was miserable, and so he looked as if he was in a deep depression. Who was he trying to fool, the countless frogs at the bath house? None of them truly cared about how he felt. All they really wanted was to have enough munny to fill their pockets to the bursting point. Letting out a sigh, Haku thought about all the horrible things Yubaba would do to him once he got up to her office. She didn’t know about his lack of form yet, and he was sure he’d be of no more use to her if she knew. So, he had the following choices: Face her wrath when he told her, or face her wrath when she found out.
Such intriguing choices…
He hated working for her, but he had no other purpose in his life. He had never left the world of spirits since the river officially dried up, and Yubaba had been ‘kind’ enough to give him a reason for living. But now…she had no more control over him. He never truly realized that he was free until that moment in the elevator. His light brown eyes slowly started to light up as the actual realization dawned upon him. He had his name…he had his name! She held no more control over him! Chihiro had saved him in more ways than he truly could comprehend at that moment! He…
…he was free!
Suddenly, the elevator came to an abrupt stop, as Haku slammed the lever back down. He was one floor below Yubaba’s. There was still time for him to make it out of there before she could to realize what was happening. The elevator doors opened, and Haku burst out into the chamber, pushing through a couple of frogs along the way. They all were confused about what had happened, but they knew better than to yell at Haku. The boy merely kept running with a stone-faced expression, looking for the window he knew would be open. That would be his source of an escape. The window…and there it was. He could see the heavenly blue sky awaiting him through that open window.
All it took was a jump.
Leaping out of the window amidst the shouts of many different frogs and spirits, Haku burst into the fresh summer breeze, letting the rapid currents blow through his long off-brown hair. His eyes closed for a moment as the familiar sensation filled him with a feeling of nostalgia. He could see back to that day with Chihiro…falling down from the sky as she uttered his true name, giving him the greatest freedom he ever could’ve asked for. He could almost see her semi-smiling face in front of her as it was on that day, with her hands locked between his. He had never been happier than that day with her…
And he never would be until he found her.
Racing past the windows of the bath house, Haku could hear some of the people speaking of his sudden jump. Rumors spread faster than anything else in that God-forsaken Hell hole, and it wouldn’t be long until Yubaba herself discovered what was amiss. But Haku no longer cared about what Yubaba thought. She could do whatever she pleased, and all that Haku would worry about concerning her was if he’d ever have the displeasure of running into her again. No, he was going to run far away from that bath house. He was going to go on a journey of his own to rediscover his true power and potential. He was going to leave the spirit world.
…he was going to find Chihiro…
Grabbing on to the piping on the side of the bath house, Haku greatly slowed down his sudden falling, letting go once he thought he had lost enough speed. It wasn’t much longer until he fell into the large ocean-like body of water which now surrounded the whole of the bath house. It was such a welcome and familiar feeling, having the water completely surrounding him. He hadn’t felt such a great sensation since he was the river! Taking one last look at the bath house, Haku finally turned his back upon it, vowing never to return again, unless he found he was forced to. He never wanted to see the vile interior of that bath house as long as he was alive.
And he never would, if fate worked in his favor.
Swimming away from the bath house, Haku took off for the portal to the real world. He knew the real world was probably much different from the day he first left it, but he was willing to embrace that change. With the training he had received in magic, as well as the soon-to-be-regained dragon form he would have, Haku was sure he’d be perfectly fine. Swimming as fast as his arms would take him, his expression became happier and more excited with each passing moment. He was actually going to set out in the real world to search for Chihiro…he was actually going to take off on a less dangerous adventure that he himself had started…
…he was actually going to live once more…
