So typical.
The distinctive odor hovered vainly within the atmosphere as the dark man looked up at the huge castle, from the village down below. Not only could the dark being smell it, but he could also feel it, boldly shouting out the name of radiance as it crept through the air, disturbing the precious particles of the world. Grimacing from within, Xehanort figured that the vain hero of Light was here. How foolish this hero was, to think he stood a chance against the ultimate ruler of Darkness! But motivated to destroy the hero as he was, Xehanort knew that he had to be wise, wise as he always was, especially because he was so mighty and powerful to all beings.
No matter, thought the scientist, his lip curling into a half-smirk and his amber eyes glowing with a special sheen. This child and his radiance would be stopped. Xehanort recalled the time when he inflicted the wrath of the truth upon this boy and his pitiful lack of knowledge; that Darkness was the core, the Heart, the spirit of everything, including Kingdom Hearts. Why could the boy not see this? How could it be that someone with so much power and influence had so little logic? Xehanort knew that, in order to make the boy see the truth with his own eyes, he would have to resort to extreme measures and bring about the full wrath of the pure Darkness. The true Darkness.
And then there was the much simpler route. Elimination.
It was foolish to let a child with such towering arrogance and naivety run along with the key to ultimate power and destruction. Of course, it probably was not the fault of the child to be so foolish and surrounded by meaningless radiance, but he was blind, and this was why it was Xehanort’s duty to rid the universe of such a plague. For, just as the wise Xehanort suspected, the boy had already begun plotting against Xehanort’s mighty plans for Kingdom Hearts, as it seemed.
Feeling that familiar heroic sensation overwhelm him, Xehanort sighed deeply and silently, his muscular chest heaving as he did so, and his lips broadened to a large grin, even though his glowing eyes did not follow suit. He crossed his arms and shut his eyes to contemplate for a few moments. Xehanort was the true hero. Xehanort was worthy of the glorious Keyblade and all its functions. He just had to prove that, and then he would do justice by crushing the child with the key.
And then there was the puppet. Xehanort did not once forget about Malificent. She, too, was like a child in Xehanort’s shimmering yellow eyes, but at least slightly wittier than the one with the Keyblade. Malificent believed that she was the queen of Darkness, sadly. She is yet another one with too much power for such a massive ego, Xehanort believed, nodding as he thought this and taking gentle steps forward.
He couldn’t let Sora ruin his plans for Kingdom Hearts and the Garden of Radiance.
All his research, all his knowledge, brought him here, to the highest altar of authority. It was all worth it. Xehanort believed that he was not vain, but merely of one of the highest authorities in the universe; his power was equivalent to that of Kingdom Hearts. But not only was it his power that brought him up to the top of the hierarchy of Darkness. What kept him up there, and what helped him in his long journey, was his extreme wisdom, his thirst for knowledge, and the fact that he held secrets which no-one would ever have known existed.
Xehanort was king. No, he was more than this. When he would complete his goal with the Princesses of Heart, the Keyblade and the Door to Darkness, the true paradise of the highest heavens would be revealed to his eyes and his flesh. And why should any wise king let silly pawns attempt to throw away their dreams, their hopes of finding such a paradise? Darkness was glorious, and it was higher than Light and every other element and entity by all means. It was not prejudice that Xehanort had; it was fact, it was knowledge. He, the child, was the one who was prejudiced. The boy and his befooled followers would perish when they would come to realize that everything they worked for was for nothing. How dare they oppose the truth, Xehanort thought, clenching his fists and grimacing once more as the anger swelled his dark aura.
Xehanort took long strides, like a true master of the Heartless, toward the entrance of the castle. Once he reached the gate of the familiar structure and laid eyes on its torn beauty, a flood of nostalgia rained down upon the dark man and he outstretched his arms, closing his eyes and throwing his head back as the memories fueled the charge of his strength. The past was no more depressing than it was useful and informative, but as long as Xehanort kept the memories close to him and never forgot his research he would always remain wise.
And for some reason, he could vividly recall a time within his late master's laboratories, when his first sparks of the passion for knowledge erupted. He still held this passion for knowledge and science, and with every step he took it grew. The only reason he believed he was a leader was because of the towering amounts of Heartless below him, and because he believed he would be the one to find true paradise and the mysteries of Darkness. His vision made him very unique and powerful, and if he used this power wisely he would be classified as a leader. Nevertheless, his true aspirations did not lie with leadership. They lied with the science of life and the Heart.
And when he returned to the present, he recalled Riku with a tilt of the head and a hollow grin. Riku had surely witnessed the powers of Darkness, and he was not blind unlike the other child. But his ability and knowledge was limited, and so he was weak. Something held him back from achieving true Darkness, and that was his conscience. Why should one give in to emotions and conscience when they could recognize the awesome powers of logic and reasoning? With this logic and reasoning, one would be all-powerful; just like Xehanort was now. But many had barriers which held them back from the beauty of science, powerful walls which soaked the intelligence from their very minds, and so Xehanort was obliged to use them to succeed his goals.
As of now, his goals were simple. One was to find the true paradise that lurked within the Door to Darkness, within Kingdom Hearts, the realm of power. The other was to soak in so much knowledge that Xehanort would be above the authority of Kingdom Hearts itself; he would be the rightful ruler of the universe. And so the empty Heartless continued along the path of his ultimate journey, having pride in his beliefs. However, something made him stop, suddenly…it was the weakening doubt that rested painfully on his mind. What if his knowledge was wrong? What if things weren’t as he expected them to be? At once Xehanort knew that this was no way for a leader to think. But even if this was the sad truth, he would still be all-powerful and all-wise, no matter what. Nothing could bring such a mighty figure down and Xehanort knew he was certain of this.
Xehanort traveled across the ground he knew so well when he halted once more as he caught sight of two children in the distance. One was a girl, the other a boy. They were both probably far older than Riku, but they were nonetheless children to Xehanort the wise. With keen, brimming eyes Xehanort witnessed the girl struggling with the boy; she was far older than him, as it seemed, and she appeared to be physically abusing him by clutching his wrists and repeatedly thrashing him about. Intrigued, Xehanort found the situation fathomable, but daunting nonetheless. His expression of concern and authority, he graciously strode over to the squabbling things and looked down upon them with fierce eyes.
They recognized him as their leader, who seemingly showed up less and less to better the people of the world. Nevertheless, they were stunned by his presence. Still, they weren’t aware of what he had seen and so they got back to their business. They ceased fighting, but the girl still was extremely agitated, so it seemed, and her tight grip on the boy remained. “Don’t go! You mustn’t! You’ll get hurt!” cried she, over and over, and upon closer examination Xehanort noticed that there were the trailing remnants of tears glistening on her face. But the boy, determined as he was, continuously attempted to escape her grasp. She was bigger and fierier than he was, so Xehanort decided to interfere with the supposed injustice.
“What do you seek with such determination?” he demanded loudly, addressing the boy. The desperate girl decided to involve Xehanort in the situation, seeing as he was an adult.
"Ansem!" he cried, astonished, and then he gulped and continued. “I…I seek answers! And…and knowledge. I want to know the secrets about the Heart…I need to!” cried the child in response, and to this statement the girl groaned agonizingly. It appeared that the children had suffered a loss; perhaps someone close to them lost their Heart to the Darkness. At once Xehanort’s amber eyes became hawk-like and he crossed his arms as he glowered at the girl. He could comprehend the situation, from the little information he’d gained from their screams; the boy wished to enter the castle to seek knowledge while the girl tried to keep him away in order to protect him.
“One must sacrifice himself to the Darkness for knowledge,” Xehanort announced to the girl in a grand voice, reaching out and ripping her from his grip with ease, "especially when it concerns the Heart." There was a slight emphasis on the word 'Heart', slightly showing Xehanort's passion for the matter. With extreme desperation and full-flowing tears she bent down on her knees and begged Xehanort to change his mind, but he did not. “Lest we forget,” orated he, over her cries, to the boy, “Darkness is the true essence of all existence.” There was reason for his interference with the two children; for they were the new generation of the Garden of Radiance. However, the girl couldn't stand it: with a burning fury, she sprinted for the boy. But before she could get to him, Xehanort's Dark essence flowed in front of him in a gaseous substance which, in a moment, became the Guardian; the Guardian reached out for the girl and violently clenched her arm, dragging her back, away from the boy.
The male child looked back, concerned, but the Guardian soon appeared behind Xehanort, and the girl found it futile to try and run for her friend again. "Go," he commanded the boy.
And so, the boy set off, to Xehanort’s satisfaction. The dark man had just done justice, and it appeared that the boy had a brimming spirit, even though he was still so weak. Xehanort looked down at the sobbing child and allowed her to grieve, for he saw no point in trying to get her convinced that Darkness was the correct path. So, he decided, why not create one more Heartless for the world? The more, he believed, the better. And so, the Guardian, grinning from antenna to antenna, was commanded by Xehanort to unleash Darkness upon the girl's Heart. And so it did. A bright, vibrating Dark shock, like some kind of malicious electricity, pulsated through the girl's body. It vanished and her Heart rose into the atmosphere, racing for Kingdom Hearts. The Guardian vanished, as Xehanort was certain that the Heartless within the castle would protect him.
So, He shook his head in pity, mentally, for the silly people of the Garden of Radiance; but what more could he do now? Time was shortening, and he was obliged to continue along his journey quickly so as to successfully tempt Riku in order to destroy Sora and gain a Keyblade. If Xehanort could do all of this, he would surely find paradise soon enough. And so, with another empty grin, he set off for the castle.
