Audition post (400 words):
“It’s hot, y’know?”
She would have rebuked him for being a wuss, had it not been true. The blistering sun mingled with the humid climate created from last night’s rain to make the horrible sensation of clinging clothes and burned faces. Lined up against one of the many walls surrounding the sandlot, the pair watched on as their leader effortlessly struck and dodged his current opponent- some outsider who thought he could take on the blonde in a struggle battle for various reasons. Be it for their turf or just bragging rights, it really didn’t matter now. As she observed with her good eye, it did not seem that the match would drag on much longer. Still, the midday heat was horrible, even as they stood still doing nothing. It must have been miserable for Seifer, who was in constant motion.
“Snow cones,” she spoke up, both replying to his original comment and adding in her own idea for a solution to this sticky, hot day. She wasn’t a big fan of popsicles. They were too messy. Nor did she really like the sweet and salty treats that were so popular in Twilight Town- sea salt ice cream. Snow cones were far more efficient. Not only could you customize one’s own flavor, but for some reason she just preferred the spoonfuls of shaved ice to crunch on.
Her fragmented idea seemingly hit home, as the larger boy quickly pushed himself off the wall and turned again towards her with a big grin on his face. “Good idea, y’know! What flavor do you want, y’know?” he asked before taking a couple steps in the direction of the stand.
It didn’t take long for her to mull over an answer. “Strawberry.” She replied, a reliable fall back for when she couldn’t think up an alternative fast enough, but also a favorite of hers nonetheless.
“Yeah! I knew that, y’know!” Turning around, the young man took a few more large steps forward before stopping as if he had forgotten something important- in which case he actually had. “Hey, what’s Seifer’s again, y’know?” At this, she almost smiled. That was Rai for you. Loyal and reliable, but a little forgetful at times. It was alright though. She was more than willing to remember the details for him.
Seifer didn’t like sweet things, or so he claimed. She suspected he did, but it was just easier to give into his act. “Lemon,” she answered, without a moment’s hesitation.
“Right, I knew that too, y’know! I’ll be back in a few, y’know?” Fuu watched as one friend disappeared around the corner before again turning her attentions to the other in the middle of the lot. She would wait for him to finish, despite common sense telling her to seek out shade. A slight pink blush had already spread across her shoulders and face, guaranteeing a painful sunburn by the end of the day.
