Audition post (400 words):
Riku's feet skimmed the ground as he flew backwards, allowing the combatant to push down and force his body into a somersault. The quick roll ended with Riku planting his feet back down on solid earth and gave the teenager back his proper footing. Ready for a counter-attack the swordsman raised his Keyblade arm up and pulled it back, his free hand facing towards his opponent in preparation to counter their next move.
Nothing. The creature fell from his last attack and dispersed into a cloud of darkness. Riku held his stance for just a moment and waited to see if he could feel any more hostiles in the immediate area. When nothing felt out of place the Way to the Dawn disappeared from his hand in a flash of dark blue light and the teenager's posture relaxed into a standing pose. Turquoise eyes trailed on the spot where the Antiform had died for a few more seconds before the young man's neck tilted forward and they instead took in the dry stones beneath his feet with an angry look. The warrior's right fist clenched in annoyance, flexing the muscles in his exposed right arm for a single moment.
'Another dead end,' he thought calmly, but with plenty of distaste. Riku had traveled the worlds looking for answers, tracking down every lead or Antiform he could find. Yet, despite his best efforts, still he was no closer to solving this huge mystery, let alone righting what happened to his home world.
The thought of the current form of Destiny Islands was enough to make the resident glad he had an appropriate outlet for his aggression. After he returned home to the world restored by Sora and Mickey, to the world he'd led the Heartless to and forsaken to the darkness, Riku had promised not to let it suffer like that again. Maybe he was taking too much onto his own shoulders(As usual, Sora would say) when he did that, but he still felt like a failure when he first returned there after waking up.
Though he had no recollection of his defeat and abduction, the Keyblade master still managed to gather enough information to more or less piece together what had happened. Sneaking around and learning things behind the scenes was something he'd gotten a lot of practice in. Unfortunately it wasn't doing anything to help in this case... the Kingdom of Dark Hearts remained as seemingly unstoppable now as it had before his unexplained return.
'There's gotta be somewhere else,' he reasoned as the tall boy turned and walked out of the previous battlefield. It was now as he began to walk away that the fatigue built up from his solo crusade started to tap his shoulder, reminding him that it was there. Riku almost missed the power of darkness he'd once wielded; it certainly made jobs like this a lot easier.
No. The swordsman rejected the thought as soon as he had it. The darkness might not have the same hold on his heart as before, but it still liked to coax at him now and again. Riku was strong though; his heart was vigilant against unwanted guests. The real question was, of course, for how long would it be unwanted? The power of darkness was a mighty force. If he couldn't fight against the Antiforms as he was now then that power might be his only resort. For the sake of saving his friends Riku would certainly be willing to plunge back into the darkness again... wouldn't he?
The reflective warrior stopped in mid-step, bringing his lead foot back to rest. There was an expression of quiet contemplation on his mature features, as if considering an especially convincing argument posed during a debate. Riku's right hand raised up and dug under silver bangs, coming to rest against his forehead. One of his eyes was blocked from view by his arm and a small release of air(Not quite a laugh, but definitely more than a sigh) triggered one of Riku's partial smiles. His heart was strong, that was certainly true, but it wasn't strong by itself anymore. Even now, when he hadn't realized he was considering the invitation of darkness again, the hearts of his friends would always be there to reach out to him.
Sora, Kairi, the King, Donald and Goofy... the image of them all appeared in his head as Sora's voice spoke to his heart. Perhaps it was here, at the brink of exhaustion from all the things he'd been trying to do by himself, that his own pride was quieted enough to hear their message again. He had lied to himself... this time without the blindfold.
Lowering his hand back down again Riku's partial smile had turned into a smirk as he found the idea of Sora being a voice of wisdom to him rather amusing. There was no way the brunet was ever going to hear about it, that was for sure. The righted traveler continued on the path ahead now, returning to his Gummi Ship so he could go to Radiant Garden. That was the best place to start looking for his friends.
'All right, I'll come find you saps so we can do this together,' his heart answered the feeling, not willing to fully concede his error but certainly ready to walk the preferable road. So, with a smile, Riku set out to find his missing friends. He could feel they were out there when he stopped to listen. If the Keyblade warrior of the dawn had returned from nowhere then so had they. As he left the conquered world behind Riku looked up into the sea of Stars with one last thought on the matter.
'But... just this once.'
Searching the universe to find his missing friends was Sora's job.

"C'mon, man! Why did you try to do so much on your own?"
