Audition post (400 words):
It was one of those ordinary days in Agrabah.
All of the sultans guards were roaming the courts, hearing about the sudden appearance of a band of thieves. This band of thieves, according to the rumors, wasn’t like any other they had seen in their entire lives. Of course, the sultan would have to be worried about something of this nature, what with his mountains upon mountains of wealth just sitting in his castle. Then there was also the infamous Cave of Mystery, holding too many treasures of a powerful nature than the sultan really cared for. There were too many ‘goodies’ in the desert town that were open for stealing. It was the perfect target for thieves…which meant increased security was a must in this sort of situation.
One particular guard was having that feeling of somebody watching his back. This was more than enough to make him nervous while going through a back alley, but he was one of the bigger guards in the area, so there wasn’t much to worry about. Still, one could notice that he was clutching his spear extra tight while he walked. Thieves were always on the prowl in Agrabah, and with this sudden arrival of a new band, he had to be on his best guard. There was a sudden shuffling sound of feet coming from behind him, which made the guard jump and aim his spear. This was the fight he was dreading.
“H-hey, you! Come out with your hands up!” Was all the guard could say to the person around the bend. The second he made this comment, a lone figure took off at him in a sprint, begging for help from the guards. By the sounds of it, it was a girl. She was so wrapped up in light cloths that the guard had trouble eyeing her, as the guards were very likely to do. “Oh, help! Some bandit has made off with all my savings!” She shrieked, pointing with a lone, seemingly sunburnt finger at the exact location she had come from. “Erm…what’d he look like?” The guard asked, unsure of what to make of the situation. “Ohh, he had these horrible brown eyes, this awful reddened color, and a terrible green hat! Please, kind sir, I’m begging you to bring this brigand to justice!”
The guard wasn’t expecting anything like this to happen, but was more expecting…the rumored band of thieves to jump him. Well, this was just as good. He could still get some fighting in without the fear of being overrun by hundreds of thieves. With his spear held ready, he began running off toward the thief, but managed to give the lady a quick wink before he disappeared. The lady, giggling to herself, returned the wink with a dark brown eye. On her finger, which was covered with what seemed to be reddish-brown fur, the guard’s keys to the castle were spinning around, clanking together. “Ooh de lolly, what a find!”
The girl’s voice suddenly turned deeper, as an English male voice took over. It was still coming from the lady, who was now chuckling to herself, clutching the keys in her claws. Her other hand went to grasp the shawl over her face and ripped it off, revealing the face of a male fox. It was none other than Robin Hood, the most notorious thief in all of Sherwood Forest and Nottingham. He was the notorious ‘band of thieves’ that was rumored to have been loose in Agrabah. A rumor he spread himself by whispering into the ears of guards and important officials in the market place, a little trick that he had been working on for days. Why, one might ask?
Well, when people are worried about thieves on the outside, the inside is quite vulnerable.
“It’s almost too easy for me…” He began, taking on a softer tone, “…but it is a pity that Little John couldn’t join me for this. Oh well, I’ll just have to bring back double the normal amount for everyone in Sherwood.” He said, restoring the light-hearted tone in his voice. Throwing off the rest of the rags, he placed them behind a marked box for future reference. He’d most likely need them while he was making the trip back to the shipyard to hitch a ride back home. Swinging the keys around on his finger, he took on a very carefree attitude for the job he was about to go on. That’s when something struck him as off. Reaching into the pocket on his plain green shirt, he pulled out his red-feathered hat and placed it on his head.
“There we are, now we’re ready to visit the sultan!” And with that, the green-clothed thieving fox began walking through the back alleys. There were no more guards from where he was to the palace. He had already scoped the area out, and the palace was only about two blocks away. Besides, the guards would be busy looking for the individual described by Robin Hood, which somewhat resembled the thief himself. But, knowing how guards are just so well known for being bright individuals, Robin wasn’t worried in the least. Instead, he continued walking through the alleys with a slight spring in his step, looking forward to the task put ahead of him.
“Next stop, the sultan’s castle! I’m sure he won’t mind if I borrow a jewel or two.”
