Audition post (400 words):
Leon wiped his brow of sweat with his right arm after placing the final crate inside the new storage warehouse. It had been a day's worth of work to get everything moved in here from the extra supplies to the tools, but it was nice to finally have an official place for them that was actually big enough. Before they'd had to make due with he bin in the marketplace, though admittedly at the time that had been enough.
The swordsman closed the door behind him and started making his way back towards Merlin's house to let the others know he was done. 'Probably all finished for the day by now, he estimated, making note of the sun's lowering place in the sky. Leon was probably the only one of the lot who would work until the job at hand was done even if it took all night, but that wasn't necessarily a good thing.
Suddenly Leon's ears heard a familiar and urgent sound. The noise of the town's automated defence system firing off. The Heartless must have been lurking around in the town limits again. The world's protector took off, gunblade now gripped in his gloved hand. He turned a corner and slid to a halt, taking up a two-handed sword fighting position.
"What's going on here?" he asked in a calm tone that demanded an answer. Before him was a man in a raggedy, flowing black coat and a head wrapped in disguising sheets. The figure watched two more Neoshadows be destroyed by the mines of light blasting up form beneath them at the security system's hand, then turned to look at the newcomer. He had dull, grey eyes that peeked out of the opening in his head wear and curled, aged hands.
Leon listened to the answer, but it was sadly familiar to him now. On every world the Heartless appeared on there were people with the capacity to control them. These people would eventually be led down a dark path and seek out the origin of their tools and keys to greater power. He listened to the speech about filling this restored world with darkness once again for another time and was once again filled with disgust no matter how many times it came up.
"You have one chance to leave this place and never return," the swordsman told the figure with absolute steadfastness, who laughed at the offer. This newest puppet of the darkness saw the sweat his would-be opponent was dripping after a hard day's work and called the bluff. A black spear with a wicked blade at the end appeared in his old hands and pointed forward before the ghastly figure moved in for the kill.
A few minutes laster and it was over. Without the Heartless to manipulate and help him the enemy had overestimated his pwoer, and underestimated his opponent's. Squall Leonhart, the man once too weak to even stand against the invaders of his home, now kneeling behind his latest opponent with the revolver gunblade held off to the side at the end of his slash. A spear clanked against the cobblestone street before the sound of knees and hands followed suit. The man said a few words of disbelief, like they always did. As his body started to dissolve into the darkens she tried to command the brunet stood up and started walking towards Merlin's house again.
He wasn't the weakling Squall Leonhart. Leon as man who'd fought more battles than a person should in their lifetime and they seemed hesitant to stop seeking him out. Still, as the latest enemy died at his hand, the cold and hardened eyes of a warrior softened slightly into the eyes of an honour-bound guardian taking no pleasure from battle. He'd have to warn the others about this encounter, Radiant garden was becoming somewhat famous in the Sea of Stars these days and such people rarely traveled here alone anymore. More fights were likely to ensue and more of their rebuilding efforts would likely have to be repaired, a reality that brought a sigh to the scarred man's lips.
One day he could allow himself to be Squall again, but today was not that day.
