Audition post (400 words):
Riku stood there on the islands a sandy shore, an expressionless look was on the young mans face. He was at a loss for words, for words could not describe what was going through his mind at the moment. Before the gray haired youth was a world unfamiliar to him, but it was once a place he called home. Now it had become this place of death and despair. Even the Realm of Darkness wasn’t as gruesome as this place. It was indeed a tragic sight to bee seen. The place that was once a paradise for him and his friends was no more; it was now a hell on earth. All he could do was ask himself just how did things get so bad. Where was he at when this happened? He couldn’t remember anything except waking up in the cave where he, Sora, and Kairi used to hang out and draw on the walls. And now he returned to see all of this. How long was he gone?
Suddenly he began to see scattered visions and images of the town being destroyed. What made matters worse was the one who was doing this was he. No it couldn’t be. Riku turned away from the darkness promising himself that he wouldn’t go back. He shook off those bad thoughts from his head, he needed to stay focused. Those thoughts were minuscule to him at the moment.
His hands dove into the black sand and were brought back up each holding a handful of sand. Opening his hands he gazed down at the sand as it slowly escaped in between his fingers. Dusting off the remaining black sand off of his hands, he headed towards the town to see if there was anyone still around, he hoped he wouldn’t find any dead bodies there.
“What happened here?” Riku said his eyes widened as he gazed at the town where he lived. What he found was something much worse. Only after taking two steps in the town did Riku see the horrendous sight of his hometown. Everyone was petrified in a stone-like state, each one frozen in fear showing their last moments before being turned into stone. One had a mother covering her child trying to protect it from something; another had a couple reaching for each other, their hands almost inches away from each other. The images came up again, he saw up close and could hear them asking to be spared them scream right before there was silence. He turned his head back away from the statues, he couldn’t look at this anymore. Why was he seeing these horrible things? Did he really do all these horrible things? After all he had managed to survive all of this without any injuries. No, he knew that someone was playing tricks on his mind. The darkness wasn’t strong enough to consume him that easily, not anymore anyways. Whoever this person was apparently underestimated Riku thinking he was going to be easily fooled by some random images.
Then he instantly thought of Sora and Kairi. Did they end up like statues as well? Sora was a though kid so it was likely that he and Kairi managed to escape this fate. But just to be sure he raced over to their houses to see if they had indeed become statues. Once he got to Soras he opened the door and looked around the entire house but he could not find him. Then he ran over to Kairis house and couldn’t find her there either. They must be safe, Riku had no doubt in his mind, and his heart could feel this as well. He let out a sigh of relief once he was sure that his two best friends were safe. Sadly though, the same could not be said of Sora and Kairis family who were all frozen in stone. Riku had hoped that they didn’t see this sight at all.
Knowing Sora, he and Kairi probably escaped and fled to another world and were looking for him now. That brought some joy to him, at least he knew they were safe. But one question was still unanswered. What happened here? He needed to know. The King probably knew what had happened and that’s whom he needed to see first before trying to go off and find what caused all this. Mickey was the only person right now who Riku trusted and respected enough to go to and ask for help. Sora would probably get mad at him for not trying to look for him first but Riku expected that they would eventually encounter each other again. Their hearts always lead them to each other. Besides if his visions were true then it was possible that he would end up hurting Sora and Kairi, and that was something Riku couldn’t bear to do. But for now his heart was telling him that he needed to find Mickey and figure out what was going on. Riku would make sure that whoever did this would pay dearly.
Since he couldn’t use the power of darkness to create a Corridor of Darkness, he would have to find another way to get to the castle. Just then Riku heard a noise that sounded like a tree branch snapping. A dark presence could be felt all around him and he knew that whoever this was had something to do with the destruction of Destiny Islands. He stood still almost as if he didn't even acknowledge this beings presence.
"I see, so you had a hand in this mess, and I suppose I'm your last victim am I? I think it's only fair to warn you I don't intend on going out like the others."
Now filled with a purpose he clenched his fist just as The Way to Dawn appeared in his hand in a flash of white and blue light. Whoever did this was more than likely waiting in the darkness staring at him ready to feast on a new prey. Well Riku wasn’t afraid of them and he wasn’t about to wait until it popped out from the darkness. It just showed him how weak they were, having to hide behind the darkness instead of using it like he once did.
"Guess I'm gonna have to be the one to show you how to properly use the power of darkness. Too bad though, Sora is going to miss all the fun now. Oh well maybe I'll let you live long enough for him to mess you up."
With a smart-alec smirk Riku held his Keyblade and took his stance motioning whatever was there to come at him so that he could finish them off.
