The well-dressed man burst into the office he worked in every day, but the familiarity of it all was marred by the look of fear and panic plastered above the collar of his black suit and tie. "Joseph!" he cried out in desperation towards the much younger boy standing before the room's large window overlooking the city. Though barely entering his teen years the youth clearly bore a family resemblance to the worrying adult.
"See? I told you he'd be here," came a voice. It too was young, but full of malice beyond its years. The voice matched the youthful look in the sixteen year-old's green eyes as he looked across the workspace towards the target of his cruel intentions through stands of hanging silver hair. "Safe... and... sound."
Kadaj squeezed onto the younger male's hand as he spoke the last words excruciatingly slowly to the parent's ears. The son winced in pain but was powerless to escape.
"Stop it!" the man demanded, equally as powerless as his son. He and everyone at his company had learned well what these mysterious individuals were capable of. "You and your gang have terrorized us for weeks! What do you want!?"
Kadaj smiled self-importantly as he released the pressure on the boy, not having broken anything in his hand. In that smile hid child-like amusement over the endgame of his latest fun but it was upstaged by dark satisfaction at knowing that he was about to get what he wanted.
"Project 227," the powerful teenager stated with simplicity. His opposition was stunned speechless by the mere mention of the name, but more out of sheer confusion than anything. Kadaj took the chance to continue during the man's new set of silence. "The code is completed, right? Give it to me and... well..."
He needn't say anymore. The man begged him to wait then, still without fully understanding, complied.
Father and son were reunited for the walk to the central mainframe. Guards came now and again, but nothing near a rescue ever occurred thanks to the two older members of the silver-haired "gang". Kadaj allowed them to lead the way hand-in-hand knowing full well that he still couldn't back down from the earlier submission. At the central computer lab it took only minutes for his highest-level password to access the data that Kadaj had demanded.
"Why do you want it?" the suited man asked out of a complete lack of understanding despite his fear as the sixteen year-old terrorist downloaded Project 227's code onto a small disc and proceeded to delete the original. "The code isn't a weapon! It isn't our most expensive project if you're looking to sell something! You must know that!"
The man immediately believed he may have said too much, but he was correct in his words.
Kadaj held the disc containing his precious code up at eye-level. His task was complete. Surely she would be pleased with him? With all of them? The executive's questions fell on deaf ears for the most part. Money and weapons were both worthless things in his eyes, suitable only as a means to an end he was capable of reaching without them.
'With this we're one step closer. We'll be able to meet you soon... right?'
Kadaj's expression was almost solemn as he thought that plea to a voice that could not answer him right now. Even to his hostages the boy almost seemed to look his age at that moment, a genuine child trying desperately to please his own parent rather than the persona of cold evil that had faced them down throughout this ordeal. However, if that found that an improvement, then they would be saddened by its almost immediate replacement. A few heartbeats after the question had been asked their cruel tormentor had returned in the child's place and looked upon them with twisted amusement yet again.
"Because Mother wants it."
