[Welcome to "The World"]
Created in 2005, a world phenomenon this game would become, starting from a celebrated beginning to dreadful secrets and mishaps. Viral outbreaks known as AIDA plagued the game numerous times, reports of coma's as well sparked media interest and rumors about the game. It became such that [The World] was shut down permanently.
Or so they assumed.
USA, 2009.
Skilled programmers had no trouble creating a replica of "The World", completely their own. Or as it's known commonly as "Private Servers". These servers weren't important and didn't detect media attention, yet had all the same factors the true game included.
Yet more secretive, and free in it's own way. The game ran smoothly for awhile, yet within the administration things were not. The main system admin would quit soon after the start and become a normal member, his replacement changing the rules around.
Everything was much more difficult, and obvious favoritism between members was played by Quests and items being given out by the dozens to those whom he was close with. This lasted for quite some time before dissatisfaction amongst the normal members, in which the ex-admin hacked back into his account and attempted to shut the game down.
It failed horribly.
Those logged into the attempt at shutting the game down would realistically fall into a coma while still playing, thus mentally in the game- yet in the real world was gone into a coma. News of course took notice of this, yet the game itself wasn't something anyone could open.
Forum codes and regulations made sure their members followed a much strict and intricate way into opening the game- non-members would be pretty much confused and baffled without any sort of intelligence. Thus shutting down a game that seemed non-existent was quite the problem.
Staff itself lost most power from the ban-happy ex admin, only a few Game Master's remained. Site Maintenance was impossible now, and slowly bugs were occuring at rapid pace, including the growth in hacking and disturbed field data...
Doomsday, anyone?
