Physical appearance ~ : Despite her youthful personality, Hotaru has an appearance fitting of her age. She’s of average height, 5’ 5”, and has a lanky build. Slightly tanned skin gives her an athletic appearance. She has passed adolescence and thus has the curves and face of an adult – no unsightly acne or flat chest! Speaking of her face, it is heart shaped with a button nose. Her eyes are set somewhat close together with almond shapes. Her irises are of a light blue shade, and her eyelashes are long (partially thanks to the wonders of mascara). A slight widow’s peak is found at her forehead, and her auburn hair is kept up in a messy bun. When she lets it down her red-brown locks fall a bit past her shoulders; closer to her armpits. Her lips are thin but a natural dark shade; still, she wears a bit of lipstick for a more rosy color. Overall, though, she doesn’t wear much make-up. All in all she’s a pretty young woman.
Clothing/Accessories ~ : Hotaru isn’t picky about her clothing but she does seem to follow a certain trend with the type she wears. Most of the time she wears a pair of jeans and a solid-color blouse, but occasionally she will wear a skirt or even a sundress if the weather is appropriate. She prefers not to wear shorts, however. On her feet Hotaru nearly always wears a pair of sandals (the kind that have backs so they won’t fall off), unless it’s unbearably cold and she feels the need to wear boots. As for accessories, she likes bangles and wears a few almost always.

Alignment ~ : Good
Behavior ~ : Hotaru can be simplified simply with the title dreamer. Her every moment is spent daydreaming; lost in thought. She loves adventures, and when she’s not daydreaming she likes to explore and such. It’s difficult for her to do anything for long periods of time because she finds herself unable to focus and her mind begins to wander. She is not lacking in creativity and despite her age she comes up with the wildest ideas. Like a child she is always making up games and rambling about nonsense. There’s no doubt that she’s the strangest young woman you’ll meet in a long time. Hotaru often jokes (although it’s actually rather true) that she next quite grew up.
Certainly not shy, Hotaru is an extrovert. She loves being around others, especially people who are willing to listen to her crazy thoughts. Once she starts chattering there’s no stopping her. Her main problem with people is that there are few who can stand to be near her for too long; there’s little difference between her personality and that of a five-year-old. Of course she doesn’t mind being alone either – more time to daydream! Hotaru can entertain herself for hours just sitting alone and thinking. Sometimes she’ll express her creativity by writing out stories or drawing pictures – in fact she’s not a half-bad artist.
It may not seem like it, but Hotaru isn’t unintelligent, rather she’s very smart. If one can get her to focus for long enough she’s amazing at problem solving; things like mathematics are easy for her. She does struggle with analyzing things and picking out specific details, as she prefers to look at the whole picture. She may be oblivious and naïve, but Hotaru is not an idiot.
Those who really get to know Hotaru will find that she’s not a bad person at all. She’s incredibly honest; in fact it’s very rare that she lies at all. Hotaru forgives others easily and accepts just about anyone. She’s loving and cares for people more than they realize, and would probably do anything for her loved ones.

Primary Weapon(s)
ID: Staff
Quality: Average
A staff made of cherry wood that is exactly Hotaru’s height – 5’ 5”. Its circumference is about 3 inches. It is sanded and smooth but not decorated or carved in any way. Despite being somewhat thin it’s a rather sturdy weapon, reinforced with magic that keeps it from snapping too easily. In fact, Hotaru uses this for most of her magic; she can cast spells without it but she prefers using her staff as a sort of medium, rather than using her own hands. If needed the staff isn’t terrible for, say, whacking people on the head.
Secondary Weapon(s)
ID: Dagger
Quality: Average
Hotaru has a dagger for the times when she doesn’t feel like beating her enemies with the staff. It has a 6-inch blade and a black grip with a matching black sheath. There’s little else to say about it other than it’s shiny and sharp (being a dagger and all).

Illusionary Death
An enemy will go through an illusionary death that affects all of the senses. The death is an image of a hundred swords appearing mere feet away, then simultaneously stabbing forward for a quick but painful, terrifying experience. While this ability does not actually pierce an opponent with one hundred swords, it does cause physical damage equivalent to a moderate ability. The mental damage is severe enough that once trapped in the illusion they will not have the willpower to use any abilities or equips for two rounds. For the ability to take effect her opponent must lock eyes with Hotaru while she is casting the spell. To cast it Hotaru holds her staff in front of her; both the staff and her eyes glow faintly with ominous magic. During the turn she casts this spell Hotaru cannot use any other abilities/equips or attack.
Those with a strong sixth sense or otherwise might notice that it is an illusion; however, it has the same effect as long as they’ve locked eyes with Hotaru.
Strength: Strong
Uses: 5 round cool down.
Illusionary Doppelganger
Hotaru can create illusionary copies of herself – they look just like her in every way, even sound like her. The copies will assist her in battle by distracting the enemy. They can do any manner of moving around, shouting, or simply pretending to be her, but they can't actually attack the enemy because they have no physical existence. A doppelganger will disappear if hit once with even a weak ability or a physical attack. The clones will also vanish if Hotaru attacks the enemy.
Strength: Weak
Uses: Three clones per use; two uses per battle.
Illusionary Landscape
Are you sure what you see is really there? For this ability Hotaru makes her enemy(ies) see an illusion that replaces what they see of the physical world. Generally this means something along the lines of when fighting in an open area, causing the enemy to think they are in a forest filled with obstacles they must dodge while Hotaru walks right over with her staff or dagger. The flaw of this ability is that it only affects the sense of sight, so for example if one were to reach out and attempt to touch one of these illusions his or her hand would go right through. Basically, if observant enough, it's not difficult to see through the illusion (which would dispel it). Like with the other abilities, if she loses concentration the illusion fades.
Strength: Moderate
Uses: Three times per battle.
Items
1.
2.
Equips
1. Fire I
Allows the user to shoot a head-sized fireball at high speed with slight homing ability. Very difficult to dodge at medium range. Explodes on contact and deals weak fire-elemental magic damage. 10 uses per battle.
2. Blizzard II
Allows the user to shoot a head-sized spiky ice crystal at high speed with slight homing ability. Very difficult to dodge at medium range. Shatters upon contact and deals weak ice-elemental magic damage. 10 uses per battle.
3. Thunder I
Allows the user to surround themselves with a dozen randomly-falling thick yellow lightning bolts. The lightning comes down anywhere within five meters around the user. If any targets are within that range when cast at least one bolt will always come down in their direction, with more often focused in the general area. The strikes deal weak thunder-elemental magic damage to anyone they hit. 10 uses per battle. Lasts one post.

Now, it seems so long ago, but Hotaru was born in a land called simply Hara, meaning fields. There’s no question where it got the name for the small town was located on the river but otherwise surrounded by nothing but green, grassy fields. The town consisted of a few shops, a market place, several farms and ranches, and plenty of residences. Everyone fit in somehow, and everyone knew each other. It was a simple, pleasant life that Hotaru lived for ten years as the daughter or a fisherman. Like most fisherman’s daughter’s she spent her time out of school helping her mother with chores, learning the skills she would need one day to be a housewife herself. It was right around that age - ten - that she began to realize how little she wanted to have that life.
Where was the excitement, the thrill? Where was the adventure? Truth be told there was none – sewing and cooking were not within her interests. Hotaru didn’t want to be a simple housewife, she wanted something more. If someone asked her what she did want, she wouldn’t know – there wasn’t much more she could be. All she could do was dream of faraway places she would go when she left home, places where she could be something great, where life would be exciting.
Another year passed and nothing changed, and Hotaru found herself losing hope. There really was nothing more for her, she believed. She was a fisherman’s daughter who would grow up to be a fisherman’s wife – or a farmer’s wife – it didn’t matter. She would just be Hotaru of Hara, nothing more.
Around that time, as if someone had heard her thoughts, her dreams, Hotaru felt herself drawn to a place beyond the fields. She followed this strange feeling, wandering beyond the boundaries that the townspeople refused to cross. The place she found herself was a forest, an ancient one at that. The trees were hundreds of feet high, and probably hundreds of years old. She explored this forest with wonder – she had never imagined a place like this could exist so close to where she had lived for so long. Again she felt herself drawn somewhere, and it seemed to be deeper and deeper within the forest.
After some time she was at the place she had been searching for all along – a small house that nearly blended in with the plants around it. It was like something from a book, a vine-covered cottage made solely of wood, small and quaint. Hotaru entered the home without even knocking and found herself face-to-face with an old, kind-looking woman. Hotaru soon learned that the woman’s name was Miju, and she had lived in that very forest for decades.
Miju explained that she was a sorceress of sorts, a priestess that watched over the ancient forest and the town nearby. She had noticed Hotaru’s suffering and after much thought decided to grant her wish – freedom from the world of Hara. Hotaru had no idea what this meant at the time, but Miju gave Hotaru the powers of a mystic, the ability to teleport and use other magic. Quickly Hotaru learned the basics of this magic and then left Hara behind – permanently, she hoped.
She was only twelve or so, but Hotaru was then utterly alone with all the worlds to explore. Along the way she encountered creatures that seemed to come from nightmares - Heartless, Nobodies, even beasts themselves. There was both light and darkness throughout the worlds, and Hotaru was left to face both. Still, she labeled it with the term adventure and stayed herself through it all. Naturally, along the way her abilities improved as well (with a focus on illusionary magic).
Eight years later and little changed – she’d seen much but had also yet to see plenty more. As for her personality, it’s as if she hasn’t changed at all in that time, although whether it’s due to the magic or if it is simply the way she is, it’s hard to tell.
