The Castle That Never Was was once a safe haven for nobodies and the base of the once formidable Organization XIII. Nowadays however, the Organization was weak after their defeat at the hands of those meddling kids and their accursed leader: Sora. While they were busy reconstructing themselves after their own individual rebirths, the Organization felt that they could use all the help they could get collecting the hearts necessary to complete Kingdom Hearts once again. Thus, they turned to Vexen to solve their manpower shortage, and the chilly scientist had a most fitting idea in mind to solve all of their problems.
The Chilly Academic had been slaving away at his computer for at least a week in his laboratory ever since Xemnas ordered him to begin reconstructing one of the greatest creations he had ever made. The center of his normally spacious lab was now dominated by a large flowery capsule, borrowed from Castle Oblivion. The entirety of the capsule was covered in a thick white fog, hiding whatever was inside it from the view of anyone outside the capsule. As Vexen pounded away on his computer’s keyboard, putting the finishing touches on his specimen, lights flashed in the containment unit, giving the entire thing an eerie iridescent glow.
Suddenly, with a triumphant grin, Vexen stood away from his computer and marched over toward the flower unit, hand hovering over a bright red button labeled ‘release’. “Finally, all my work will pay off. He may have failed me last time, but this one is stronger, faster, and superior to the old specimen in every way, shape, and form! Once more, the Riku Replica rises to serve the Organization,” Vexen cackled, dramatically pushing the button.
With a hiss, the pedals of the pod slowly opened, forcing the scientist to back away a few steps so as to avoid being smacked down by them. The once contained gases now billowed out into the room, flooding the floor of the room with a white fog. However, most of the gas stayed trapped within the silent chamber. Vexen raised an eyebrow at the calm within the pod. Had the experiment failed? Where was the replica? Just as Vexen was about to move closer for a better look, a black gloved hand reached out of the pod and latched onto the side, the rest of the replica’s body soon emerging from the pod as well.
If it hadn’t been a year since the time in Castle Oblivion, one would have sworn the real Riku had just stepped out of the pod. The replica bore the exact same body of the Riku of one year ago, right down to wearing the exact same clothing. Blue eyes scanned the room in slight confusion before locking right onto Vexen. “You brought me back?” the replica questioned simply, striding forward out of the fog and toward the Chilly Academic. “Why of course, and it seems my efforts to reinstate your memories of Castle Oblivion have been quite successful as well! You do remember everything, yes?” Vexen questioned, rubbing his hands together in as much glee as a nobody could muster.
Big mistake.
Darkness swirled around the replica’s body, enveloping him in darkness. As it receded, Vexen found the replica to be in his darkness form: the skin tight purple, red, and black uniform and the medium length grass skirt. In his right hand one could spot the bat wing shaped Soul Eater keyblade, long since ditched by the real Riku. With barely a wasted second, the replica was right in front of the cloaked Organization member, pointing his blade right at the icy nobody’s throat. An angry snarl on his face and white hair partially covering his blazing blue eyes, the replica spat his fury at his creator.
“Oh, I remember perfectly what happened. You let Larxene and Marluxia beat me and use me for their stupid takeover plan! I’m going to get them, but I’m going to start with you first,” the replica snarled angrily, pulling back his blade to strike down the unfortunate scientist. With an immaculate squeal, the scientist raised his arms, shouting, “Wait, wait! I can explain Riku Replica! Really I can,” in the vague hope that the replica would spare him.
However, all the man’s pleas did was anger the diminutive menace. “No. No longer ‘Riku’ Replica. We’re no longer exactly the same. I’m just Replica, no longer a pathetic fake!” Replica growled before he swung the Soul Eater at the unfortunate scientist. Overcome with fear however, the scientist promptly fainted, tumbling out of the way of the blow with nary a hair out of place. Replica blinked in slight surprise at the scientist’s fainting, but shrugged it off. He wasn’t really worth killing anyhow unless you used an explosion of fire on him.
Turning away, Replica slowly marched out of the lab, de-summoning his keyblade as he did so. Out in the halls, the replica decided to try and find a way out of the Castle That Never Was. He had an agenda on his mind, as several people deserved a little payback. The Organization members Larxene and Marluxia would both pay for using him to achieve their own means. He also needed to prove to Sora that he, the replica, was the stronger of the two and not the other way around. And the real Riku! For Replica to truly be the individual that he wanted to be, Real Thing needed to be destroyed too.
Remembering his final goal, Replica reached into his pocket, pulling out a golden five pointed star on a chain. He held the simple trinket in his hand for a few seconds before carefully putting it away. Finally finding the exit, Replica strode forward quickly. After all of his other objectives had been accomplished, his last mission would perhaps be the most difficult, yet the most rewarding to him.
