A year has passed since the completion of the arrancar arc. After it's events, Ichigo was asked to become a captain in a new set of squads, the Hollow Extermination Squads (or the HES for short). While the Court Guard would protect the Soul Society and Earth; the HES would focus mainly on hunting down Hollows in any realm they gained entry to. They had juristiction everywhere, and the HES was no inferior in status than the Court Guard. The Court Guard just focused on defense, while the HES focused on offense.
While there are 13 Court Guard Squads, there are only 7 Hollow Extermination Squads, 8 if you count the the squad Ichigo ran, the Vasto Lorde Extermination Specialists. He was also head captain of HES, making him in essence, equal in rank to Yamamoto. Ichigo was given a key similar to Yamamoto's, allowing him access to the King and his family if need be.
Meanwhile back on earth, Uryu has his Quincy powers back, and is no longer held by his word to his father that he will never again associate with Soul Reapers. Orihime's magic has gotten stronger, and Chad's abilities have also grown. Tatsuki was later made a member of the HES, after it was revealed that she could see Hollows. Ichigo trained her, and she later became his Lieutenant. Rukia was also promoted to Lieutenant, only on the condition she serve as her brother's Lieutenant. Renji was appointed Captain in Kenpachi's place, for he gave up his seat in the Court Guard Squads.
Kenpachi Zaraki, with his lust for battle became the second captain of the HES, taking Ikkaku with him as his new Lieutenant. Now the other slots need filled, both in the HES and the Court Guard Squads. Yamamoto is looking for exceptional recruits, and Ichigo is looking for those who can hold their own in a fight.
Unfortunately, Hollows and Arrancars seem to be rising in numbers, and it is too much for the HES to handle alone. And to make matters worse, Ichigo has vanished, leaving the HES and the VLES without their leader.
Just what is going on? What happened to Ichigo, and how are the Arrancars and Hollows gaining so much power? Find out as Bleached Shinigami takes off, and gains a life of its own.
