Member of the Month

I think you should make it so that members can vote for the one they think deserves it. The staff would pick three or four members, and then the members themselves would vote

OR

the members could nominate others with a reason why and then vote after all the nominations are done (this could be done in a monthly poll).

I'm sure that the staff members are making great choices, and I've maybe only disagreed once or twice since I've joined FM (even way back on version one), but wouldn't it mean more to be member of the month if not only the staff thought you deserved it, but other members did too?

And I was talking with Larxy before I started typing this, and even while so (which is why I bring this up).

I had mentioned before this all the stuff I've done for FM, whether it was something as simple as running a quest or plot, or helping think of ways to get something to work. I've brought up ideas which were instituted into new rules (Nobodies and Heartless being able to be called was originally my idea, Bilby (or whoever was responsible for minions and tamers if I'm wrong) just expanded it into something more. And although Bilby was the one who thought up the exact details for the canon number increase, I was the one who originally thought up the idea to increase the number. I only bring up this stuff to show that the way it's being done now (at least from my perspective, and maybe a few others) isn't allowing some people who should be member of the month to be it, or at least given a chance to be it.

Alrighty. If you haven't noticed, I've been trying to keep a pattern with the MotM. Staff, member, staff, member. To be honest, most of our outstanding members tend to be staffs [which is why they are staffs]. However, it IS the member of the month. And both Rhea and I felt that as just a member of the forum, Larxy deserved July's MotM. If she thinks that it should be given to someone else who deserve it more than her [and happens to be a member] then by all means please, PM the suggestion to me.

As for letting the members choose, I've been planning that with my staffs. We've thought of putting up contests to let the members choose their MotM or even a competition where the winner will be the MotM.

Might as well turn this thread into an idea thread. Suggestions to how we should choose our next MotM, guys?

Asa, is this just a desperate cry for attention or something? Sure, you may have helped out around the forum and stuff, but that doesn't entitle you to MotM. For 1, running quests and plots is a part of your responsibility as a Quest Master. You don't get paid overtime for doing just what you're suppose to. And yeah, you may have formally/informally brought up ideas and first step concepts but it was members like Bilby that put the time and hard work into making them work properly. If you really want it that bad, you need to go that extra mile to actually make a bigger impact in what you do. Do quests that are larger conceptually that stand out against other quests.

...Why are you whining about this, anyways? MotM dont get anything special except their picture on the front page for a month. Its really not that big of a deal.

I put a few ideas down. The staff members could pick a few they think might deserve it.

Or the members themselves could nominate a few (no nominating yourself in this case). After a few days a staff member could put a poll up with a list of candidates. Then people could vote and after let's say a week (at the most) it is locked and whoever has the most votes is the MotM.

EDIT: No Zero, I'm not crying out for attention, I only put up those things about me because they were contributions made to the site that I knew about. If I had known about someone else's contributions (that haven't already been MotM) then I woulda post those.

As for making the ideas work, how do you expect me to help out if someone gives an idea and then the staff goes (after a few more suggestions) and works it out. I really haven't had a chance to go around and help out the process. And as for plots, my plot idea was given the okay before I even became a Quest Master.

Ah, you see, the problem with that, Angie, is that is exactly how KHRPF is doing their MotM. Well, sure, we can do it too, it's a rather generic way to pick MotM, but I dunno...I wanna go for something unique. If you get what I mean. XD Maybe I'll turn this into a contest. Oho~

Votes = Popularity Contest. Trust the Admin's judgment, I say, she generally knows what's going on around the forum. A vote brings unnecessary hassle and maybe even a little contempt, "Why didn't he/she vote for me? I clearly did so and so,". This way, it's quick and most of the time accurate.

But yeah, MoTM not -really- that important enough to go through a vote, yeah? People won't respect you more for being MoTM (They sure didn't me!). However, they -will- respect you more if you did good things for the forum and that's what's important, right? I can understand you doing a lot, and that's appreciated, but be patient. Your time will come.

I have to agree with Akito, if you let the members vote your just making it a popularity contest than an actual member of the month vote. It's made to give props to a specific member who made a difference to the forum that month. Personally I would just get rid of MotM but it's a nice way of saying thanks from the staff.
