Blank. The word painted the walls of Nat's mind as he climbed the lifeless stairways of Castle Oblivion. The only thing that kept him sane was the rhythmic pattern of his feet hitting the steps that lay on the ground. The sight of the odd lamp and swinging chandelier helped him remember it was not a dream and kept him out of a trance like state. The narrow stairways were different from the wide fields of Koudo and after a while made him think he had tunnel vision. "Man, does this place even have an exit" He thought aloud while he quickened his pace the more anxious he became of the bland building and its stairs. The stairs seemed to have no end and no point to their length especially since he had seen no one in them. "Maybe the amount of steps forced everyone out" he joked as he broke into a sprint up the endless stairs.
His feet pounded as he reached the final steps and a doorway came into sight filling Nat with the joy that had abandoned him since he began his climb. The doors now stood a couple steps before him and suddenly the world came caving in as his right foot slipped off the final step and his entire being began to hurtle down the legion of steps beneath him. His open gi press against his back and his belt flapped in the air above them and the feeling of time itself slowing to turn its head to watch the tumbling begin...and so it did. Nat's head pounded as row after row of steps threw themselves into his skull and spine. His legs flailed as he seemed to be rolling in the air after every collision only to fall again onto another ivory step. Time felt like it had returned to normal and if anything sped up as it laughed at him flipping down the narrow staircase.
The floor came into sight after what seemed like an eternity of falling and to his surprise it he could still feel the pain through the many damaged parts of his body. If anything he should have lost feeling or been unconcious by now but he still rolled and still winced as pain struck him all over as he was struck by every step. His black hair spun around him in a spiral and his headband followed close behind every spin. until it stopped...it finally STOPPED!! The pain was still great but it the pounding stopped. Blood spotted his clothing and parts of his hair as he lie in a crimson pool of his ever draining life. Struggling he rolled over and lifted his head to check his body. noticing nothing wrong but he could feel the pain in his chest where his rib broke. He knew his arm was dislocated and his elbow bone was probably the same. He lifted his head once more and saw that one of his knees were facing the opposite direction. "Oh man, what i do this time" He sighed as he dropped his head and noticed the world blurring away.

"Well well well well WELL!"
A chuckling, chortling voice could be heard, but its source was not immediately apparent. What was apparent was that something was plodding over to the young, stair-battered man... something with wide yellow eyes, an inky black imp-like body... to the uninformed it would look like a creature made out of tar; to the educated, it was known as a Heartless.
A Shadow, to be more exact. One with a peculiar pendant hanging about it's neck. It walked up to Nat, then began to circle around him while holding it's hands behind its back... rather like it was examining him. Not normal Heartless behavior.
"Each documented stress invalidates an amplifier, you know." The pendant pulsed with a faint light at each word. "Will an exaggerated defeat compose?"
The Heartless sighed out loud. "Very well... seems I've no choice. You're no good to anyone like this, lad." It held up one hand, pointing at the ceiling as it shouted, dramatically. "Liiiiiife AAAAAAAura!"
A shimmering cloud of sparkling light descended on Nat, and where its energy touched his body injuries vanished as if by magic. Even the unnaturally-bent knee was effected; a cracking sound could be heard as it shifted into place, righting itself back to normal. The Heartless, seeing no immediate movement from the young man, proceeded to poke his head gingerly.
"Oh, come come now! Surely you can't be THAT discombibulatified -- they're only a couple hundred stairs, after all! Your scroll scripts an invalid outside a dedicated sect. Up! Up with you, lad!"

A strange figure began to wander about Nat's blurred vision and he heard "brother" echo through his mind several times before someone began to speak. "Very well... seems I've no choice. You're no good to anyone like this, lad." His mind went into full alert yet his body did not react. He wasn't dreaming? There really was someone else there with him. Excitement and relief flooded through his being as his loneliness subsided. The smell of his own blood left his nostrils quickly after the voice cried once again this time louder and strangely dramatic. "Liiiiiife AAAAAAAura!" The open gaps of flesh that seemed scattered about his body slowly closed and his shattered bones began to heal themselves. A light flashed around the entire time and Nat felt as if his skin was crawling and jumping in excitement before the loud, painful pop of his dislocated knee reawakened his senses and brought back down to earth.
Shaking his head several times he had to make sure he was still fully functioning and then quickly hopped onto his feet and spun his arms around a couple times to warm them up. His body felt great and was still tingling from the warm healing glow that just encircled his torn body and made it whole. A huge grin spread across Nat's face as he stood and stretched as if he just woken up and jump up and down twice before he turned to his healer. "Thanks for that i'm reall-" he stuttered as he laid his eyes upon the heartless that stood in front of him. The living shadow that was also apart of him seemed to want to be with this other being and brought forth inky tendrils across Nat's face changing his left eye into a yellow orb that slightly rose out of his face more so than a human's eye. His head tilted raising the left side into the air while his right hand grasped his face and covered part of his mouth until a few words slipped out. "Help me...escape." His face slowly returned to normal and his heartless seemed to have stopped. His tanned skin slowly became visible where the black skin slithered across and he could tell his heartless used a lot of energy doing that.
Shaking his head Nat quickly apologized "Sorry i'm sorry about that. Even though your a...and he's a...nevermind. I'm Nat thanks for saving me." Nat extended his hand ready to shake hands with the inky figure even if it was a heartless since he had saved his life.

"Hmm... you're an interesting one indeed!" The small Shadow reached up and shook Nat's hand. "I'm the being formerly known as Weylon Fey, practitioner of the arts of magic -- which, you might say, is how I ended up like this." He, or rather the Shadow, pointed to him/itself... though it wasn't clear whether the finger was aimed at the Shadow's chest or the amulet around it's neck. "This is no place to take a nap, m'friend. No, no no no. Musn't let one's guard down in Castle Oblivion." The diminutive Heartless glanced around warily, as if expecting an ambush. "Strange things here. Things that aren't real, people made of nothing at all, traps and illusions born from one's own mind. The real, it waits within the unreal, watching from hiding. Ah, but I -- I'm safe! Well, for now, it seems. Strong magic keeps it all in, but the castle's magic is strong too." "Best not to stay still. Come, come; let's leave." Still holding Nat's hand, he began dragging him off towards an adjoining hallway. "Doesn't matter where we go -- castle doesn't let most people leave until it's done playing with them, and it's far from done with us. I can tell... let's go elsewhere, but no stairs. Not for you. Bad idea, that." The strange little Shadow talked like a rambling fool, but there was an underlying sense of wisdom in its words (though twisted and erratic, indeed). After a few moments he released Nat's hand; being only about three feet tall at best, it was inconvenient to hold on like that for long. Still, it kept talking and expected Nat to follow. Where would they end up? Even Weylon didn't seem to have the foggiest idea... "So, darkness. Seems to be strong with you! Tricky thing, darkness. Essence graduates darkness. Why does a light inheritance pretend without darkness? Essence engineers the spectacular! Yet even so, essence spites darkness over the imposed etymology. Ah, how darkness suffers around the relevance! You understand, don't you young master Nat?" (OOC: If you're curious, meet Weylon Fey.. He's one of my... quirkier characters. By the way, did you have anything particular in mind for this story's direction?)

((OOC:No nothing in particular. i like to go with the flow.))
The cold, ebony hand of the heartless reached out and shook his with an unexpected amount of energy before warning him of the dangers which dwelled within the castle walls. Letting his mind wander about the blank walls he felt as if he could just paint the walls with his thoughts and before he knew it he was being dragged off by the inky little man. The sound of the clanking amulet on the figures chest created a very metallic noise, normal of course, but it seemed strangely loud and echoey in the empty halls that he was pulled through.
The creature that pulled him released its grip on Nat's hand and continued its pace as it walked further ahead. Tilting his head he examined the figure before he joggedand caught up to the heartless which continued its speech regardless of whether he was there or not and before long the hall seemed to end and another door stood before them when the heartless spoke of darkness. Nat's knowledge of darkness was above average at least if not for the experience of the "trial" he was put through.
A Smirk crept across Nat's face at the question and he raised his left arm and focused onto it until it became pitch black. "I know more than you may think" he whispered extending his arm towards the being to touch him on the brow. As he did he felt the heartless inside him pulsate with energy and he quickly removed his hand and released the darkness around his fist. He shook his head and then looked at the door and with a smile approached it. "I'm going in you coming Weylon?" Nat asked the shadowy figure before pushing open the ivory doors.

Weylon's Shadow quivered at Nat's darkened touch, not unlike a person who'd just been shocked with a brief surge of electricity. A strange reaction for a creature made of darkness...
"I'm going in you coming Weylon?"
The little Heartless looked up and nodded, following Nat as he stepped through the doors. What lay beyond, however...
... was not what either of them had expected.
For a moment the room they were entering was a blinding, swirling vortex of light and darkness, rampaging seemingly at random -- then, in a bright flash, it all changed. Where there had been polished marble floor there was now instead deep, rich earth and sprightly waves of grass; in place of walls there now stood towering, robust trees... and replacing the ceiling was a vast canopy of leafy green and interwoven branches, like as though the forest itself was some manner of giant tapestry . . .
Weylon looked behind them, noting that the door had vanished completely.
"Oh no, memory revels below another mirror! The choir overflows, a name calculates. The unbelievable legend invests a connector... how can the manufacturer court the clearance?" He seemed genuinely worried, backing up to Nat and looking frantically around him. "A tasteless arrival wrongs the praise opposite the combining statistic... but how can this be?! I... I thought I was safe...wait..."
He looked up at Nat. "The alliance drowns the verbose knowledge behind the analyst! It is you! This place... it resides within you! AH HAH! It makes sense to me now..."

Nat walked into the room slowly as he looked around at the blank room and with a hint of confusion looked at Weylon. Weylon seemed to know about this place than he did, since he knew nothing except it was blank. The world began to spin in a strange fashion and Nat jumped back slightly afraid of what was to come. Suddenly the door behind him slammed shut and he ran forward to push it back open but to no avail. Nat had no choice but to watch the chaos unfld before him as colors spiralled about in a mad dance that to Nat had no point but to confuse him. As soon as Nat felt ike he was going to go insane it all stopped and slowly green colors leaked onto the ground and blue painted the ceiling.
Trees sprouted suddenly and grass jutted from the ground replacing the blank tiles that once were. Nat walked into the mess of colors only to have everything around him painted into a picture that he couldn't believe. The room went from blank to his home world in less than a second and Nat was quite shocked by it all. Nat touched a tree and the bark was the same smooth texture that all the trees had on Koudo. Everything was peaceful around and Weylone said something with is huge vocabulary that at first had Nat confused. Nat thought about hat he had said for a few seconds and then looked at Weylon once again confused. "This is one of my memories?" Nat asked slowly, "Then how would i know which it is?" Trying not to sound stupid he walked forward and looked into the sky smiling hoping Weylon would help him figure it out.

(OOC: Welcome back!)
The little Shadow-man could only shrug his shoulders. "Memory discharges from the intelligence within. Should the derived expenditure handicap another satisfying warrant?"
Which, it seemed, was Weylon's way of saying 'I don't know, it's your memory.'
All around them the forest seemed calm and peaceful... even so, Weylon looked nervous, jittery, like the slightest thing would make him jump.

Nat smiled politely as ever and felt a little stupid foraing Weylon about his own memory and even stupider for not realizing it quicker than he did. Nat couldn't help but notice the shivering of heartless behind him and with a change in his smile he motion for him to follow before taking off. Sprinting though the gaps between trees and he knew what lay ahead. The mountains that held the homes of themany people of Koudo and in the center of it all the mine that nearly took his life. Nat reached the end of the trees and brown mountains extended from floor into the clear sky above. Nat stopped and looked back for Weylon seeming like he had not just sprinted through a large forest. "We're going around the mountain!" He exclaimed as he turned to Weylon.

Weylon did his best to keep pace, though the stubby legs of a Shadow weren't quite able to keep up with Nat's rapid sprint. He managed to catch up just in time to hear Nat announce that they were going around the mountain... surprisingly the little Heartless actually looked tired from the run.
"Hold... hold on." Weylon requested, sitting the ground. "I'm not as velocious as you! Hmm... perhaps there is a better way for me to keep up?"
Weylon's eyes closed, and suddenly a puff of darkness erupted from him. As it cleared, all that remained was the necklace... Weylon's body was gone!
"Well, won't this be more convenient?" The disembodied voice of Weylon Fey asked, the amulet's central gemstone pulsing with a faint light as he spoke. "Go ahead; pick it up and put it on. It won't hurt you or do anything nasty, I assure you."

Nat watched as the heartless emerged from the forest and stopped in front of him trying to get him to slow down. He smiled but as Weylon transformed into a dark cloud he paniced slightly. Looking around for the heartless, he wondered what he had down as his Necklace dropped to the ground and a voice erupted from it. It wanted Nat to...put it on? He was confused slightly by the suggestion and was scared that Weyln would team up with his heartless an take him down. Being more cautious than usual, he crouched down and studied the necklace.
Nothing seemed to stand out about it but if it just absorbed Weylon and wanted him to wear it, he wondered what it would've been capable of. Picking up the necklace in his right handhe poked it with his left and spun it around his finger. Just to make sure there was nothing wrong with it that would spring out when he started moving. He put on the necklace and it felt a little sort of heavy, but nothing that would hinder Nat's movement. "Alright, if you're ready." he said before sprinting off into the distance and running around the mountain. The chain constantly bounced off his chest as he moved faster and faster until he reached his top speed and reached the halfway point of the mountain.
