Physical appearance ~ :Almost as if the shadow from his tan hat seems to constantly hide his face, Nathan’s face is always hidden, his yellow glowing eyes the only part of his face that is visible. Sure, looking at him from the side you can see the shape of his nose and chin and forehead, as well as his long pony-tail of black hair, the pony-tail wrapped around the front his neck once, almost like a boa. He is tall, about six foot two with a thin appearance, his body also well-defined.
Clothing/Accessories ~ : Nathan Coro On his neck with a thin golden chain, Nathan has a small silver ring that he almost never removes. His hat is long, about 2 feet tall with the last 5 inches bent to the back of his head. The hat has small x-shaped sewing parts, and when the brim meets the main part of the hat there is a red strip of cloth that hides most of the evidence of the sewing. He wears a blue cloak with sleeves that go past his hands with ripped sleeves from the spells he has casted. The bottom of the cloak is a bit ripped and dirty from it drawing on the ground for most of its clothing life, and it has a few parts that continue to move, as if animated by the energy coming out of Nathan.
On his waist he has a small square of cloth with two small buttons that keep the cloak closed, as well as a brown belt that slides underneath the small square of cloth. His collar is composed of another section of cloth attached to the cloak by two squares of cloth on the front and sewn on the back, the ends of the collar comes down in two strips in front and are a bit ragged, and they are connected by two straps of cloth as well. Above his elbow on each arm Nathan has two straps of dark blue cloth that keep his sleeves from going to far up his arms when he lifts them.
Nathan wears a black, skin tight shirt with a large v-neck that is also sleeveless. He also wears baggy black pants that fit tightly around his waist and baggy the rest of the way. Nathan wears a pair of knee-length boots that are tan in color and have several straps and belts and the toes have steel plates on them. He also wears tan gloves in design similar to his boots, they are also elbow-length, and have several belts and straps on them, and the back of the gloves have metal plates as well. Every inch of his clothing is magic-resistant to attack magic, allowing him to cast his spells without fear of his clothing being destroyed, and they also move with him when he teleports. Even though his clothes are magic resistant, he will feel the impact of any magic attack.

Alignment ~ : Neutral
Behavior ~ : Nathan is a bit of a reserved person who tends to more stand in the back and watch people talk about plans, only interjecting if he finds that the plan or ideas aren’t the best or the smartest. Most people tend to avoid him for the obvious reason of his appearance, and he thoroughly enjoys it that way, for he doesn’t like being bothered by people he doesn’t know. He has a bit of a temper and if angered, he tends to attack with a weak fire spell, setting a small bit of clothing or hair on fire, but he rarely lets it grow into a big fire, usually putting it out with a water spell. Just because he is a bit anti-social and a tiny bit homicidal, doesn’t mean he doesn’t wish to find someone who he can trust. Oh right… yeah, a bit homicidal, so if he sets you on fire once, don’t make him set you on fire more then three times, for the third time the fire will be worse. But don’t think of him as all bad, for if you befriend him, he will talk to you openly, laugh a few times, and trust you.

Primary Weapon(s)
ID: Mallet
Quality: AverageThe mallet is nothing that special, just a simple hexagon headed, 10 inch long and 3 inch width flat sides. The handle of the mallet is 5 feet long and steel, as well as having a retractable handle. 4 feet of the handle can slide into the fifth foot near the hammer part, and it is able to be locked like that. The mallet is made of pure steel, and it is quite strong, strong enough to threaten normal swords to the point of snapping. It hangs from the belt inside of his cloak and can be drawn rather simply.
Secondary Weapon(s)
ID: Black Mage Dagger[/center]Nathan wields a dagger with a crooked blade, usually kept in a sheath inside of his robe. The blade’s use is to normal draw blood from the wielder’s body in use for spells and summons. On the blade there are several magic runes that are used to enchant the blood once spilled. Nathan normally doesn’t use this dagger for an offensive attack, but if needed he will in fact attack them with his dagger.

Element Novice: Fire
After years of training, Nathan has learned how to cast the elemental spell of fire. The fire, when cast, is an orb of red and orange flame about the size of a baseball. While it is not too powerful, Nathan will only get more powerful.
Strength: Weak
Uses: Allows Nathan to use Fire spells.
Element Novice: Ice
After years of training, Nathan has learned how to cast the elemental spells of ice. The ice, when cast, is a ball of blue energy that upon impact spreads out, briefly freezing before breaking off. While it is not too powerful, Nathan will only get more powerful.
Strength: Weak
Uses: Allows Nathan to use Ice spells.
Element Novice: Lightning
After years of training, Nathan has learned how to cast the elemental spells of lightning. The lightning, when cast, looks like a yellow bolt of lightning about half an inch thick that upon impact sends small arcs of electricity moving around the impacted target. While it is not too powerful, Nathan will only get more powerful.
Strength: Weak
Uses: Allows Nathan to use Lightning spells.
Quick Spell
Nathan can cast lowest level elemental spells quickly. All he needs to do is with either hand exposed, say the name of the spell silently and snap his fingers, bringing his thumb over his middle and pointer finger. He can fire off up to 6 spells quickly, but he needs about 2 post of resting after firing off such spells in a rapid-fire motion. He can use both hands to fire the spells off faster, but he generally prefers using his right hand to cast the spells.
Strength: Weak
Uses: 6 spells of his choice with a 2 post cool down.
Soft Stepping
Nathan, when he moves, usually steps with extremely light movements; almost as if each step he hovers slightly. It is impossible to hear him walk up to someone unless he steps heavily purposely. One bonus is that he can jump over a distance like it is nothing, around up to 10 feet with little problem, but he cannot jump straight up that distance or even half that distance.
Strength: Weak
Uses: To jump 10 feet with a two post cool down.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This tale follows a young boy stricken with the bad luck of sadness, betrayal, death, and loneliness. Born into a war-torn town on the edge of battle-field. His mother was what some would call ‘spoils of war’, and because of this he was born, but instead of keeping him his mother sent him off, as well as many other kids born from war-earned ‘spoils’. They would arrive together to an orphanage in a town that was more well defended by the mages and knights of the country in which they lived with.
Among the other orphans from his village he would become close friends with a girl whose name would turn out to be Anastasia. They would insist of doing most activities together, rarely separating and often having fun with each other, playing simple games like tag, catch, and hide and seek. The two would soon grow closer over the years and soon become more then simply friends. As their relationship would grow in strength, they would grow as well in age, soon becoming even closer. Nathan would begin to start to make plans to take the next step, even though he was only 13 years old.
Nathan unfortunately caught the attention of a passing group of Black Mages from a guild a month horse-ride to the north. He was caught using a weak fire spell to start a small fire during a small camping trip with a few of his other friends. This little act of Black magic was enough to seal his fate, and two months later after his 14th birthday, the same Black Mages came back to adopt Nathan and make him an official Black Mage. Nathan of course wanted to refuse, but the Guild not only filled out the right paperwork, but they also made a brilliant donation to the orphanage.
Nathan couldn’t stand it, and that night he wanted to run away and hide, but Anastasia stopped him. They stayed up with each other all night, talking about how no matter how far away they were from each other, that they would always be close. And as a late birthday present to Nathan, Anastasia gave him his first and her first kiss. As the carriage drove off, Nathan promised to write Anastasia every month as long as she responded back. Nathan would arrive in the guild within a month after being taught the basic rules of the guild and the basic rules of magic.
It had fascinated him, the rules, limits, and all the other things, but what fascinated him the most was the guild itself. A large temple floating high in the sky with only a runic powered platform to raise the members up into the temple. The first thing he did once he had a room was write a letter to Anastasia. He learned he would be paired up with another new student, this one having at least a month worth of lessons already learned. The older student immediately called Nathan as his own apprentice, and that he, Reth, would be Nathan’s master and teacher.
Reth had enacted one of the guild’s oldest laws, that a new member could be clamed by a Master or Older student as his or her apprentice. This was only the beginning of the difficult path set before Nathan. Because of the law, Nathan had become a servant boy to Reth, having to follow every command or he would be punished. Nathan often spent hours cleaning, cooking, and even at times standing in for Reth at events or classes he wanted to skip at times. But even through all the hard work and extra work, Nathan finally made it past one year at the guild, earning his own pair of blue robes that he was to wear everywhere unless he was sleeping or bathing.
By this time, Nathan was showing immense skills in the elemental spells, his skills enabling him to use the three weakest types of elements with little problem. He was showing promise, but instead of being rewarded, Reth was rewarded instead, allowing him to enter the summoners’ part of the guild. Another year went by and soon Nathan noticed something was wrong with things, like how some of the members he started with, how their robes had either gotten lighter or darker, and some of them had even started to act stranger as well.
Strangest of all, was the Reth’s robes had seemed to become a very dark blue color and his attitude had even gotten very fowl at times. Another thing was that the letters he would send to Anastasia wouldn’t get a reply from the girl. For 6 months he would keep writing, trying to figure out what was wrong, soon, 4 months later, stopping sending letters all together. It had angered and saddened him deeply. Had she found someone closer and forgotten and stopped caring for him? The thoughts made him drop into a depression and he would soon simply stop caring, focusing all on his skills and spells.
By the forth year, Nathan had not only mastered the three elements to be recognized as a great mage, but he was also studying summoning and blue magic, although he wasn’t as good in blue magic as some of the other students. Soon, he would be called upon by a few of the Black Mages and asked if he would like to ascend into their darkness and gain powers similar to them. Nathan agreed with little thought and was given the tan hat, and he was a true Black Mage in his own mind. But there was one more step he was not told, and one night he was taken from his bed by force and he found himself later within a cave filled with other Black Mage, ten pairs of yellow eyes staring at him intently.
He was told to dress in his mage gear, and once dressed they began the ceremony. Each of them held out their right hand and sliced it with their daggers, letting their blood flow into a large metal circular grid in the ground, their blood filling in every centimeter of the grid till it seemed to glow a deep red. From the center of the circle there was a small pool of blood, and the surface began to ripple.
Out from the pool of blood rose what looked like an ancient man, wearing clothes similar to the blue robes and hat, but his clothing was pure black and his eyes seemed to glow with unmatched intensity. He spoke in a voice so soft yet filled with so much power that Nathan could barely stand. He offered Nathan power, in exchange for a bit of his heart. Nathan started to protest, but the man spoke before he could start. It wasn’t his real heart, but his heart of hearts, his emotional essence. All the man required was a small bit, and for this small bit he would grant Nathan more strength then he had.
Nathan thought, and then accepted the offer, and the old man seemed to reach forward, his arm not only stretching but increasing in size till it seemed to completely engulf Nathan. The boy floated in darkness for what seemed like days, until he finally awoke one morning only to find that his body seemed to be flowing with extra mana. It amazed him and he would soon make his way to the bathroom of his personal room only to see that his eyes had turned pure yellow. There was enough light in the room so he could make out his normal features, but his eyes where no longer the bright green he once had, now they seemed to be a golden yellow color.
Once he was dressed, robe and all, he felt different, and once more looked in the mirror to see if he was fine, only to find that now he couldn’t even make out his skin color of mouth, all he could see was that his face seemed engulfed in pure shadow, leaving only his yellow eyes glowing with the untold mana he had flowing through his veins. Nathan removed his hat, only to see the shadow recede into his own features. Then a familiar voice seemed to shake him to his core, the voice of the pure black Black Mage from the ritual, and he spoke right into Nathan’s brain.
The teen had signed away part of his heart to the black mana, so under the magic of the Black Mage hat, he would lose his sense of self as well as his normal features. And under the code of the Black Mage, he was to never remove his hat or cloak in the presence of another human or creature, unless it was a matter of the upmost importance to the teen. Nathan breathed heavily, and put his hat back on his head, deeply frightened by what he had just gone through.
Once he left his room, fully dressed in his gear, standing at his height and with his age, he was no longer an apprentice, but a full fledged Guild Member, and many of the new apprentices stood way out of his way, both fearing and respecting him for his appearance and power. Another law of the guild was that all members must spend one year at the Guild, helping to teach new apprentices what they learned. In this year time Nathan had mastered two skills, his Soft Stepping and his Quick Spell, and had become the idol for many of the apprentice Black Mages.
With the year drawing near the end, Nathan wrote one more letter to Anastasia, telling her that even if she didn’t want to see him, he would be visiting her as well as the nuns at the Orphanage. The letter was sent, and a week later he was on his way back to the town he was raised in. Two weeks into his trip home his birthday had come and gone once more, making him officially 19 years of age. Nathan had always had a doubt in his mind for some reason that Anastasia didn’t hate him, and was eagerly awaiting his return, so on one of the breaks at a small inn-town, Nathan made his way to a jewelry store and bought a single, silver ring.
He often joked and fake proposed to the girl as a kid hundreds of times and she would always giggle and smile, looking at what ever twig or piece of grass he put on her middle finger (he never figured out what finger to put the ring on till he was told later) and she would kiss him on the cheek and run off, telling him to follow. As soon as he got rid of the red on his face, he would do just that and chase after her. The thought ran through his mind that she would act the same way, except instead of kissing his cheek and running off, she would kiss his lips and hold him in a soft embrace. The idea brought a blush to his invisible cheeks and he looked out of the carriage at the country side.
The small group soon arrived back at his town, Nathan, Reth, and two other mages walking into town and causing several people to hide in their houses. When they got to the orphanage, Nathan would introduce himself to the nuns and they would be unable to speak. He found it strange that so many looks of anger was aimed at him even after speaking his name, and he would follow many fingers to a room upstairs, running into a White Mage on the way out of the room. After a quick chat, Nathan’s breath would catch in his chest and he would go into the room and kneel by the bed of the girl he loved, only to see that not only has she grown thin, but frail as well.
She had caught a magical plague like so many people in the town, and she was slowly dying, the White Mage even said it was a miracle she had lived this long. The first thing out of Anastasia’s mouth where words of fear, and Nathan asked for the door to be closed so the two could talk. Nathan removed his hat, but Anastasia knew who it was before he took off his hat and she spoke again, this time her words filled with sadness at why he thought she stopped writing to him, why he stopped writing to her, did he hate her that much, or did he find someone who he liked better. These words hit him hard, and after telling his side of the story she apologized, but Nathan could only apologize back.
She then asked what had happened to his face and green eyes, and Nathan could only wipe the tears from his face. He couldn’t tell her the truth, about how he offered his heart to gain power, so he didn’t say a thing. Instead, he pulled out the silver ring from his pocket and placed it on her finger. Much to his surprise, she giggled a weak giggle and said she accepted, and using as much strength as she could muster, she kissed his lips before apologizing and falling back to the bed. She no longer had a pulse and it seemed like the rest of the color had flowed out of her skin and eyes. Nathan removed the ring, closed her eyes, put his hat back on, and called in the White Mage.
The day of the funeral was overshadowed by the clouds, threatening to rain down upon the graves and all those there to grieve for the woman’s body. Nathan and Reth stood and looked down upon the funeral from a hill in the distance. Nathan said nothing, but the words that came out of Reth’s mouth where truly painful. He chuckled and said it was good the girl was dead, cause now Nathan could focus on the real things in life and become a strong Mage with him. Nathan could only ask what Reth had said, and soon the entire plan came out, about how Reth had begun to steal Nathan’s mail and burn it, and that the last few envelopes that Nathan sent out Reth had poisoned them with particles of the plague that had stuck the town, killing so many of his friends and Anastasia.
Nathan couldn’t contain himself, and attacked Reth with a single fire spell. Reth had little time to defend himself and was knocked to the ground. Nathan stood over him and began to relentlessly attack Reth with all three types of elemental spells using his Quick Spell. Nathan took a moment to catch his breath and mana when Reth quickly drew a circle and summoned a woman in a white gown. The woman looked at Reth and seemed to let out an annoyed hiss and she looked at Nathan. A blade appeared in the woman’s hands and she went to spin it, but Nathan had been chanting a spell beneath his breath and an instant later, a powerful bolt of lightning struck Reth, killing him instantly.
The woman quickly made her way over to Nathan, and instead of hitting him, she kissed his lips and smiled, telling Nathan that she was now his summon, and when ever he needed help, all he would have to do would be to summon her. With the death of Reth and the understanding of what happened to Anastasia floating around in his head, Nathan made his way to Anastasia’s grave and he would slice his left hand, hold the silver ring in his hand, and speak softly, making a contract with the world of spirits to be able to summon Anastasia as she was now, and he could feel the deal being accepted.
Without even looking at the crowd of people now standing up against him, as well as the other two mages coming for him for killing a guild member, Nathan pulled out a scroll he had stolen from Reth’s corpse. It seemed to have a one time use teleportation spell on it, and without thinking of the consequences, Nathan began to chant, a circle of energy surrounding him and protecting him at the same time. When he finished with the chant, the scroll vanished, and Nathan followed soon after. Through immense pain and several minutes of it, Nathan found his body on solid ground once more, looking around him to see several building that almost seemed normal, but a few had glowing signs, there was a strange cylinder by a staircase and a double doorway just beyond the steps. There was a pub to the side and a large pair of doors to the other side, as well as another large pair of doors behind him
A weird flying cat thing approached him, with a little red ball on its head, and it welcomed him to Traverse town, and he asked if his world was destroyed. Nathan could barely speak to answer, and he was forcefully dragged over to one of the tables in the restraint and was given a cup of hot chocolate and a small plate of pancakes. After he ate, he had calmed down considerable and was about to take out his coin purse when he was turned down, the woman telling him that the first meal was free for out-of-towners, just make sure to come back often to make it up. Nathan agreed with a slight, hidden smile and walked away, soon finding himself inside of a store. Inside of this store he only bought one thing, a thin golden chain which he put the silver ring onto and then placed the necklace around his neck.
Soon, the entire worlds thing was explained to him, and after purchasing a small ‘gummi’ ship, Nathan was set and ready to explore the worlds. Although he did hear some people wondering if he was a heartless, and he could only wonder if they meant the Black Mage ritual. He would soon encounter and understand the heartless reference, and see why they where a threat. A few weeks later and Nathan is doing just fine, wondering what he should do now that he is no longer forced to stay on one world and one world alone. Although his past was hard, in truth, Nathan just ignored the past to make way for a future.
Do not expect to see what lies beneath the shadows.
He has the skills and is almost a master at playing the flute, a skill he had to learn to help Reth sleep at nights. The flute is small and silver.
