I was messing with Clipping Masks, in Photoshop, and here's my result. Opinions please. Edit: I Turned This into a Showcase

Those look awesome. You should consider opening a gfx shop! Or joining an already made one if they don't mind.

Thanks, I'm trying to get better, and more used to it. When I do, I'll do one of those.

Hmm... interesting. As a fellow Photoshopper I'm curious to learn more about this 'Clipping Masks' technique of yours. It's actually a term I haven't heard before, truth be told. Was this something you learned from a tutorial?

YES ANOTHER PHOTOSHOPPER WE HAVE SO VERY FEW HERE Sig and avvie sets aren't bad a'tall! Graphically superior to anything I could do, I can promise you that! xD All you're missing is the little things in graphic design. ^^ And now, a critique! NOTICE: The following is a formal critique. Ergo, I'll be epic nitpicky, give you a rating that ends with 6 as best, and many comments/complaints can just be preference-- your opinion of good style may not be my opinion of good style. So don't take what I say as law-- more than a fair amount of it is just opinion. 1st Set: Sora Not bad, and has some very cool concepts, but it feels like an unfinished project to the trained eye. Things I see not quite right:
1) Pixellated Sora, not to mention the little pixels left from a black outline around him. ^__^;;;;
2) Font looks kinda squished. Maybe that's just me, though.
3) You can see edges of square objects in there, where it looks like that wasn't the goal at all.
(Below are all design based. See above "style" bit for reference. xD )
4) Sora sticks out like a sore thumb. Color-wise, there's no blending at all. It's like... there's the background, and then there's Sora. As is, they don't mesh well. I recommend this spiffy little filter, if you don't already have your own methods for that kind of thing: [ Virtual Photographer ] I use it religiously. ;D
5) Parts of the black graphics feel very... random? I think that's the right word... they just don't fit well together. Some are fuzzy, like they're out of focus, some are really epic in the complicated department, and some are excruciatingly simple in contrast. There's no sense of unity, and I think it kinda suffers for it.
6) Nice work with implementing the red. 'Specially with the font.
7) White space/Black space issues. You've got some space to Sora's left and below the text that feels kinda... awkward. Wonky. Crazy empty. Iunno. >>
Overall, 3 kinds of spiffy, but not getting a sense of "it's all one image" from it. It's not evocative.
3/6 for good design elements and idea, but poor execution and doesn't mesh well. 2nd Set: Cloud GRAPHIC AWESOMENESS. Font blends a tad with the background, you've got a strange stray block of light around Cloud's sword hand, should I be able to see through his sword?, and I can still see some pixels (around Cloud's shoulder), but it's made of far more win.
1) Lovin' that border. How zeh fudge did you do that, add a glow to a black line around the edges? Hmmmmm... I think I'll try that myself...
2) The Cloud render looks virtually untouched (in the lighting and so on department, not the cut-out department), whether it is or not. In my unprofessional opinion, I think it turned out better for it. Good eye.
3) White space/Black space is handled well. Good balance between the two. Thrown into whack by the freak bar of yellow something near Cloud's sword, though. o.O
Evocative. But doesn't quite feel professional yet.
5/6 for great implementing of render, but for not "going above the call of duty", so to speak. xD Graphic awesomeness, Legit! The only thing bogging you down is the odd bit of fancy eraser brushes, if you ask me. ^^ Keep up the good work! EDIT: Also, for the unitiated! [ Clipping Masks 101 ]

Hmm... interesting. As a fellow Photoshopper I'm curious to learn more about this 'Clipping Masks' technique of yours. It's actually a term I haven't heard before, truth be told. Was this something you learned from a tutorial? Clipping is when you have a layer with a picture or background or something, doesn't matter as long as something is there. Then make a new layer, place it under the picture or background. Put text or brush strokes or something. Then goto the image, layer and press. Ctrl+Alt+G. Sham WwwwoooowwwW! The picture will only show up in the brush strokes/text. If that makes sence. You'll be saying WOW evertime. And trust me, your gonna like my nuts. And the Cloud sig, took so long to make, and it had so many layers.

Critique time!~
Soo...
I like the feel of it, but the render may blend in a bit too much with the background. It kind of needs more contrast to it. I don't really know what to look at. What catches my attention first is the moon and the design next to it. Maybe, don't blend in the image/render so much with the rest of the sig. The guy, Leon, is see through D:
Same with the text, it kind of blends in too much.
The left side of the sig is kind of boring. Maybe, you could shift the render to the middle of the sig, and maybe do something else with the text. Add more effects around the render and stuff.
But, I still like it. :3 Just needs some work, keep practicing ^_^
