Lets face it, we're terrible at getting to Character Auditions and Challenges. Half the time I know -I- avoid it because it's such a close call and I realize I'm a stuck up elitist.
Here's the deal, I say we should let Canon Auditions/Challenges be decided by anyone and everyone here. A poll w/ a deadline + a post giving just cause to their vote. Just as mods would. I say canons belong to the people and it is the people who decide should take that mantle. Actually not sure why I didn't think of it sooner.
So not inspired by NightSky.

The problem is that regular members may let personal bias against a certain person/about a certain character influence them.

XD I wasn't even the one who actually suggested it.
Yes I also think that it may become somewhat of a popularity contest. People are going to decide the victor based on not only the quality of the audition post, but their status on the forum.

How about you just hire one or two more people? I know there are members here that have what it takes to do it.

My reaction.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK.
This is starting to feel like politics.
Anyway, I like Larxy's idea. I think it's about time, what with our c-mods being busy and the g-mod being the only one active. I'll talk it over with Iris.
Also.
I would like it very much that none of you come and hassle Iris and me about jobs. We'll definitely not consider you.

It's always struck me as an odd thing that forums such as these refuse volunteers.

'Cause being officious is just plain uncool. Only citizens of squaresville plead. (Cann I pleeeaase pleeeaaase pleeeaaseee pleeeaaase be staff! I know Final Mix is a sound track and Sora is an ostrich! I'm, like, soooooo qualified!!!)
Staff should only choose staff, should choose staff, should choose canons.
Oppression- it's a beautiful thing.

I shouldn't have to explain myself but I'm cautious about giving people power after certain incidents. And that was just one or two. Apply that to the whole forum. Ugh. Besides, people can argue about personal biases like what Trap said.
In the end, if we still have problems, we might just have to use Akito's idea...maybe. Though I find it funny that you're against members picking member of the month but have no problem with members making decision on canons. >_>

It just seems to me a better idea to allow people to apply for a staff position rather than ask someone out of the blue and see if they accept. My view may be biased, of course, it's just that I hardly ever see this sort of staff-selection methods employed anymore.
Either way, that is neither here nor there. Highwind, from your last comment it seems like you take issue with the suggestion Akito proposed. Mind giving your full, undiluted opinion on it? We can't argue in its favour if we don't know your views on it.

Anyway, I'm going to think about taking on more c-mods. As Trap claimed, there can't be 'arguments' if I don't explain myself. I'm not going to do so.
So this thread is locked.
Feel free to 'argue' with me through PM. Or try and explain your point to me through MSN, Akito.

Not to undermine your authority, High; you are the head honcho here, to that I surrender. But geez guys, couldn't anyone have tried to devise compromises instead of having to sit on one side of the fence or the other?
This is not some revolutionary bid for power; this is a -suggestion- guys, shall we play by ear and listen to what everyone has to say before drawing guns? You know the onus of proof lies with the prosecution? The Defendant, High, is innocent until proven guilty. She doesn't -have- to defend her case of not changing anything.
This isn't a decision between two equal levels; this is the consideration of one small suggestion changing a titan of a tradition.
Comprede?
Here's the thing. Staff aren't infallible. I -am- bias. When I see a Hero audition, I wonder if I should even bother reading it. High is bias; she's a woman. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but Homac, she only approved your second Namine audition out of guilt or some sense of sympathy coming from her ovaries.
-I- have a preferred style of writing. I like descriptive and elegant things. Night Sky may have lost because of that preference. What if there were a Twilight fan as staff? With their preference for more instructive, 'bland' (sorry Night!) writing.
So, if leaving it completely to members won't work; I have two other suggestions. a) Let members be HALF the vote. The other being a mod decision. b) Let a select group of 'veterans'? I value their judgment, I think it's worthwhile they play a decisive role in a forum they've been on for so long. c) Let members open a thread to offer critique and mull over the decision, with their points being noted by judging staff.
Now guys, any ideas?

Forgive me, High, I hope my posting after you have locked this thread doesn't offend you.
If members want a say in this, Akito's 'a' plan doesn't sound so bad. Still, I would be worried about it coming down to a popularity contest. Not to mention, threads with polls always become very dramatic. ^^;
I'm not too fond of the 'b'. I mean, most of the board is composed of 'veterans,' in a sense. It also might be a bit biased.
As for 'c,' please no. ^^; There are so many ways this can go wrong.
I have to admit, as brown-nosing as this may sound, I trust the staff to choose. That aside, it would be the quickest way to get things done as well. Let them pick a few members, mull it over, and send out a pm to see if the selected member is interested. If so, great. If not, they can move on down the list.
Also, I would like to suggest that we get at least two new c-mods. I mean, I can tell the job can be a bit tiresome. In general, it can be a frustrating matter for both sides involved. Adding at least two new mods could lighten the load for everyone, and free up more time to have fun. :3

Heh, well, I wondered because it really wasn't. For some reason there were quite a number of auditions sitting there for weeks on end. Maybe it was Bystander Effect? Did everyone assume someone else would get to it?
I'm not sure if your advice was taken to heart or something with the recent 'Wanted Cmods' lol

I think the problem is not being handled optimally. Hiring more C-mods may, indeed, alleviate the problem, however, judging from this: Lets face it, we're terrible at getting to Character Auditions and Challenges. Half the time I know -I- avoid it because it's such a close call and I realize I'm a stuck up elitist. If you have two people who shirk their duties because they doubt their own ability to be fair in judgement, will the problem really be solved by putting more people on the job? While it may be the anime way to handle things, I don't recommend 'needs more power' as an elegant way to fix the problem. I also don't think Akito's suggestions would work much, because the difference between mod and member is a fancy title. When it boils down to it, everyone has a comparable capability to judge, and no one has had any specific training to do particular things. You have a leak in your roof. Putting a bucket under it fixes the problem of your house getting all wet, but is the solution really to 'get moar buqets'? Regretably, I have no readily available, elegant way to suggest in which to deal with people wanting canons. Perhaps simplify it by treating it as those 'art memes' on deviantArt: People are given a list of things to react to. They write one sentence on how they react. If you make the list of things comprehensive enough, you get an immediate, and quick way to see if someone understands the core of the character. That way, it's less of an audition and more of an aptitude test. It'll also make it easier for auditioners, since they no longer have to invent some compelling situation to write 400 words on with internal thoughts and external communication (a combination I do not often see while reading posts here...) and can simply fill out the test. Of course, that is just my idea, and I assume it is not entirely failure proof. I also understand it may not sound like a proper solution, but I offer it to you nonetheless. I just don't think the long-term solution would be to throw more buckets under the leak, nor do I think asking others to fetch buckets will help.
