Audition post: The volcano was cold.
Floating within the vast darkness of the End of the World was an area that contained a simple volcano, which now lay dormant. Once upon a time the volcano had rested outside of a small village. Once upon a time the volcano had been active. Once upon a time there was a master of this area in the void of darkness.
Before he had been slain, he had aided their heartless in their quest to plummet the universe into darkness. Before he had been slain, he had been a creature found to be so overflowing with darkness and ill intent that the heartless themselves had found it better to simply leave him as he was, for there would be no purpose to changing him into a heartless. Before he had been slain, the creature so full to the brim with darkness had sought out creatures of the light in order to destroy them and had succeeded until a certain boy crossed his path.
A claw appeared on the lip of the volcano, which had suddenly begun to glow softly in the darkness.
The massive black claw of the creature soon had another claw to join it upon volcano’s edge. The horrible horns of the master soon moved out of the volcano, followed by the terrifying head of the creature. Golden eyes with no pupils, a mouth full of sharp fangs, and a dangerous and demonic grin were the only important features of the monster’s face. As he continued to rise, one could view the muscled form of the demon and the large wings that obscured any amount of light that may have come into the area. This was the master.
This was Chernabog.
A massive roar emitted from Chernabog’s throat as the last thing he remembered before he went dormant within his volcano crossed his mind. The do-gooders that caused his dormancy were all that currently filled his thoughts: The boy with the brilliant key, the dog with the shield, and the duck with the wand. Flapping his wings in vain, the embodiment of evil tried to free himself from the volcano, or perhaps he was trying to move it from its place in the land of darkness. What exactly did we want? Revenge, plain and simple. Revenge on the beings of light that sent him away. Perhaps he’d even extend it to revenge on all the worlds that valued the usage of the light. All of the weak worlds out there that did not know suffering, that did not fear the darkness. All worlds that had yet to experience the horrors of Chernabog.
Roaring once again, the volcano began glowing powerful, spewing flames as the master raged and growled, searching for a way into other worlds. Flames climbed and circled around the demon, covering him in flames. With another mighty roar, the volcano erupted, surrounding the monster in all-consuming fire. Chernabog could feel it. The power that he had once held at his fingertips before the boy with the key had defeated him. The power that he had commanded in the days where his Bald Mountain had resided outside of a village and not in an evil void overflowing with darkness. The power he had used to terrorize.
Then suddenly it was before him.
A portal of darkness, just large enough to transport him and the volcanic Bald Mountain. But where would this majestic pool of darkness lead? The demon grinned darkly as he and Bald Mountain surged forward into the darkness, the darkness that would lead him to unknown conquest and destruction. Chernabog knew exactly where the portal would lead him. It would lead him to the destruction of a world of light, and perhaps all of the worlds of light. Denizens of the light would now know fear. They would know despair, sorrow, loss, hatred, rage, and helplessness. All would fall before the darkness, and before Chernabog.
Of this, Chernabog swore.
