Red was so absorbed in his book, he barely paid barely any attention to where he was going. He had just gotten his hands on the latest edition of The Magnificent Adventures of Don Carrote, and wasted no time delving into the exploits of the gentleman rabbit knight.
He was currently in the midst of a swashbuckling battle for justice, watching his hero thunder down the plains after the infamous Black Ferret of Westton. The swords clanged and the horses shrieked, and Red heard and felt every detail as though he was there.
Countless times he bumped into passerby, but he didn't seem to notice, the interruption barely breaking his sentence. He was so excited and drawn into the book, he began muttering the words aloud.
And, if the sparks that were beginning to fly over his head were any indication, that was hardly a good sign...

Ratix had actually begun to enjoy his stay on this odd world that he had landed on.
Today however, was different. He was heading towards a job opeing he'd seen a flyer for, something about a blacksmith, when he saw sparks starting to shoot out of the crowd ahead of him.
He started to speed up as the sparks flew faster and faster, and grabbed the culprit on the shoulder: a small guy with his nose in a book.

"...!" Red flinched, pulled from his little world by a hand on his shoulder. He looked around, blinked once or twice at the offending hand, then stared blankly at the man who had so forcefully ejected him from Westton.
He scowled, shutting his book with an audiable snap and reaching behind him. Pulling out a smaller book on a leather strap, he flipped it open to a page he had well memorized. Balancing it on one hand, he pointed to one word in a passage. "Why?"

Ratix cocked an eyebrow at the small man who'd been firing the sparks, his tail flipping back and forth with annoyance.
"Did you notice that you had sparks flying everywhere around you? The other people in the crowd were starting to panic. I had to do something."

Sparks? Red raised an eyebrow in a mixture of confusion and annoyance. Why would sparks be flying over his head in the middle of the most climactic battle...
He froze. Putting the second book away, he opened his Adventures book and went to the last passage he had read. He muttered. "And as these two mighty warriors met on the field, the sparks flying from their swords as they..."
There was a dull clanging noise, followed by small sparks that appeared above Red's head. The young man smacked his palm into his face, blushing. He'd done it again; gotten too swept up in a book and started reading aloud like a little kid.
Again he pulled out the smaller book, opening it up and pointing to words. "That was... completely childish of... me. I'm sorry. I was not aware.... that I was talking.... out loud."

[OOC: I'm putting this in Radiant Garden, okay?]
Ratix shrugged, "Eh, no problem, just try not to do that again, huh?"
Then, everything turn bad. Heartless started appearing everywhere, and people started screaming.
Ratix turned, drawing his sword in a practiced motion, putting Red behind him.
"You may want to get away! I don't think the security system can get them all!"

Red took a step back, watching the Heartless's sudden appearance with a face that seemed to say: "Really? Is everything trying to keep me from reading my Don Carrote?" Well, he wasn't about to let a bunch of common Heartless delay him for very long.
He opened his book and began flipping through passages. If the young swordsman could see Red's book, he might have said something about being able to take care of himself. But as it was, there was no warning for when Red began to read about the story's main villain.
"And from the flames, behind the frightened face of our hero's daughter, Don Carrote could spy another, sinister, leering grin. It was the Black Ferret, revealed in all his horrid glory as the man who burned the Don's home, and it seemed that his family was next."
As he spoke these words, a surreal, chilling air began to emanate from the book. This was Red's power at its finest. Hopefully this skill would deter the attackers, creating at least a temporary diversion.

Ratix noticed the sudden chill, but ignored it, he'd felt worse before. He charged the closest one, a Neoshadow, and slammed his blade down on it.
The other 7 Neoshadows were still freaked out by the reading and the chill, moved towards him, but slowly.

Red nodded. That worked better than he had thought. Thinking quickly, he flipped open to an earlier chapter. Time to try something else.
"The voyage was anything but pleasant. Winds howled, lightning flashed, and the rain came down near as a solid wall, that the men felt as though they could swim out of rather than stand in..."
As his description droned on, his book left his hands and faced towards a couple of enemies out of Ratix's line of fire. With a glow, the book suddenly belched salt water and wind, creating a small, fast moving wave that threatened to engulf anything in its path.

Ratix saw the wave shoot by him, engulfing two more neoshadows, and slamming them into the wall.
'Okay,' he thought, ' this guy has some moves.'
Not to be outdone, he gathered energy in his sword, and shouted, "Lightray Blade!" As he did so, he held his sword over his head and spheres of energy began to shoot out in all directions, pelting the Neoshadows near him.

Snatching his book from the air, he took a step back and watched the strange cat person work. It had been a while since he had to fight with other people. Perhaps, he thought, he should just sit idly back and let this one do the grunt work. Especially since Ratix seemed more than capable.
But Red wasn't a lazy individual. He knew just how to help. Flipping a few pages back to the legendary Battle of Easthaven, he read...
"And at the dawn, just when the soldiers' morale was near to breaking, when all hope had faded, the men of Easthaven were overjoyed to see a familiar shining figure silohouetted against the morning sun. Don Carrote was taking the field."
More important than the words, however, was the aura that was suffused from the book. This one was a more invigorating aura, designed to bolster the swordsman's courage and, by proxy, his fighting ability.

Ratix felt the energy enter his body, suffusing his muscles. He smiled as he spun, taking down three already injured Neoshadows, and the security system blasted another into the underside of a roof, killing it.
The last Neoshadow looked distinctly worried at the disappearence of its comrades. It ran, directly towards Red in it's panic, trying desperately to survive.
