You know how there are those moments you just can't go back from no matter how much you might want to? This is one of those.....

My name is Michael. No, I can't tell you my last name. I can't tell you where I live. I can't even say if Michael is really my name. It's not safe anymore, not with the yeerks.

You might think you've heard this story before, only it's a little different this time. The Animorphs - Jake, Cassie, Tobias, Marco, Rachel, and Ax - they're real, only they're controllers now. Most of them are anyways. Tobias is dead, and Rachel.... well, that's where I come in.

Rachel recruited me and five of my friends to help her in the fight, but but with the other original Animorphs on their side the yeerks have begun expanding their territory. We can't beat them by ourselves. We've recruited friends to start teams of animorphs in more cities. Now they need you to join them and help us finish what Rachel and the others started.

The plot of Animorphs: The Departure follows the canon plot of Animorphs up until book 19, The Departure. Following that, Karen's yeerk reneges on her agreement and gives away the identities of the Animorphs. Cassie, Ax, Jake, and Marco are captured and made controllers. Tobias is killed due to his hawk body being of no use. Rachel alone escapes. The site plot follows two years after this, when Rachel has begun the fight again.
