Traverse Town Cafe'/ 11:42 A.M./ 3/26/2010
For a murder case, there wasn't a massive crowd of citizens waiting for answers. The maximum number of people would have to be around seven, but that's going slightly overboard. Crime scene tape was wrapped around the poles to keep people out as two cops and an investigator were on the case, inspecting every nook and cranny. The investigator was an odd one, as he wore a Noh mask with an extra long nose and horns. Everything else seemed to fit right in with the original scene before the murder, though.
The citizens, for the most part, paid almost no attention to the scene of the crime as they went along their daily way.
"I need a status report, now!" The man in the Noh masked screamed this as the two police fumbled around as they came up to their superior. "Sir, we've found no evidence of who the killer might be, or where they may be hiding! No fingerprints could be lifted from the tables, or ground, other than the victim's!" "Well, keep looking! I want this place covered in fingerprint powder before we leave! I want every crack in the ground searched thoroughly!" The investigator here was none other than Jack Ace, the Prodigy. This case is one of the few he has been assigned since he came onto the force, and he has solved every last one before this. For once, he may be stumped and showed that not everything can be solved at the crime scene.
"Well, well, well. Look at the Prodigy. Stumped at his own game. Looks like the cards were dealt in the killer's favor this time around," said a man who wore a more sensible, blank white porcelain mask. He wore a brown trench coat, a detective's fedora and brown slacks. Along with this set of clothes was a pair of black dress shoes. Jack looked around to see the interloper. The man was the legendary, Ace Detective Bishop King. "Bishop, I'm in charge of this case. I'll do what I please and Ill show you that everything is needed right in the scene of the crime."
Bishop shook his head and gave a slight chuckle. "Look; When you're ready to accept my help, just come to me. I'll gladly do what I can for you."
Jack growled and turned back around to search the Cafe' area. That's where Adelle came in. Would she help, or just leave for something else.

[OOC: Augh, sorry I took so long.] Often finding herself stopping off in Traverse Town, Adelle had begun to pick up on some of the traits of this world. It was protected from Heartless, which was the main reason most would stop here.
But for her, it was the fact that it was a busy place that many hapless travelers found themselves in that called her. Or rather, the thief inside her. Nobody was really on guard in "peaceful little Traverse Town".
Granted, it had only been a little over a month since Adelle left home, but then she did pick things up quickly. Too quickly.
Rounding the corner from her inn, she spotted some sort of ribbon blocking her entrance into a nearby cafe. The catgirl wasn't planning on heading there, but now she was intrigued...from what she could recall, the judges of this world used this ribbon to mark areas where the law was broken.
"Sad, really. The judges are no more than ordinary people taking justice into their hands." she sighed, her sharp eyes scanning the area around her.
Well, that was the plan at least. But she was fixated on two particular judges who seemed to be...wearing masks?
These weren't armored masks either. They seemed to be purely for hiding their face. Not the most sensible things for someone on that side of the law to wear. No, it would suit someone with her "talents" much better.
Not that she would ever wear a mask and rob the world of her beautiful face.
Masks aside, something about this situation bugged her. Adelle was quite the capable thief, and as such was generally aware of thefts going on around her. Yet for something to occur so close from her room at the inn without her knowing...that just wouldn't do.
Maybe that was all that drove her. Maybe she felt a little guilty for that little old man she robbed yesterday (she robbed a few others as well, but was not about to feel guilty for those punks).
Whatever it was, it moved her body on its own closer to the masked men. Closer to those ribbons informing her of danger, and the small crowd that had gathered. And where there were crowds...
"Oh no, this is horrible!" she exclaimed, pushing herself into the crowd. "What happened here?"

Hm? Jack could now hear the sensless chatter of a crowd. From the small amount of noise, he could tell that the crowd was small, but smaller things became bigger as more action happened. That yelling girl would, without a doubt, attract uneeded attention. "Insufferable crowd! Do you not know that a detective needs silence to conduct an investigation!? Seize your constant chatter and leave! Immediately!" It didn't take a mastermind detective to figure out that Jack had popped a circut. The crowd, after the recent display of anger, scattered about slowly and continued on their day.
BISHOPKING/LOGIC Their has to be a way I can get in there to conduct my own investigation! CONNECT That girl screaming seemed to agitate Jack a fair amount. SUCCESS!
Obviously, if I can bribe that young woman over there to help me, I can force the fellow detective to snap, allowing me to investigate. Bishop King quickly walked over to the stranger and proceeded to give information. "Well, if you must know, there's been a murder. Quite the serious one, at that. I can tell you more if you would kindly help me with an endeavor. You see, I need to investigate this crime scene myself and I can't get in without some type of help. You saw how that man snapped when you yelled, correct? Could you do that again if I ask? I'll pay you in the end."[/color]
Munny was the quickest way to a kid's heart. If you offered a fair price, the kids would praise you!
[OOC: No problem. It gave me time to work on some other stuff. Also, we're going to be meeting a new player. He'll be joining us on our investigation. Is that alright with you?]

Home...home after so long.
Bittersweet memories guided Iryoku's steps- memories of a time before his way of life was taken from him. Traverse Town was his home-world, and for the first time in years- after years of suffering and years of wandering...he had finally returned home. But it didn't feel like home...not after everything that had happened. After everything that he had lost.
Shaking his head of the though, he hopped to the next rooftop, continuing his tour-de-force of Traverse Town. A lot had changed - people from countless worlds now resided here, cultures and heritages were mixing, and the town was becoming the great melting pot of the universe. It was amazing how one overly problematic pest problem had led to the evolution of this place.
"Well, at least I won't be recognized," he thought aloud as he hopped from rooftop-to-rooftop. "Nobody's gonna go claiming how I look exactly like my dad, or how I have my mother's eyes...scratch that, eye," he corrected, tenderly feeling the bandaged wound where his right eye had once been. Next time he found that Eve, he was so gonna get compensation. Lots and lots of milk. Whole, pasteurized, Grade AA Milk.
Reaching what appeared to be a courtyard of sorts, Iryoku noticed a crowd of people dispersing from some sort of taped off area. Curiosity took over, and he hopped over, eying what seemed to be a crime scene with...a dead body. Tilting his head, he did as he always did for his furry little friends- he let the cat take take over. Squatting down and leaning off the edge of the rooftop, he silently leaped down into the scene of the crime, taking advantage of the few remaining people's distractions. Squatting down next to the corpse of the dead man, and after some visual inspection, he announced aloud, "Why, I do believe this man is dead. How curious..."
It was ironic, considering Iryoku's current condition- his clothes were caked in dry blood, tattered and frayed by battle not more than 3 days ago. His left sleeve had been torn off to make the dirty bandage around his head, and he himself looked like he had been through hell and back just to deliver the obvious comment. In short...he always had way too much fun messing with people, and these conditions just made it so much more entertaining.
"So...do we, the crazy masked people, actually know how he died? Or have I interrupted a vital tribal ritual of knowledge-seeking to find said answer?" he pondered aloud, poking the body as if expecting it to twitch or reanimate.

[OOC: I'm always up for more people. Especially when they're cat-like] Great...
Her hand had been literally centimeters away from the pocket of the man that stood in front of her. And then one of the masked men had interrupted her with a burst of anger. Seriously, what was that all about? Obviously this man wasn't too stable. Though the mask should have already alerted her to that fact.
Nonetheless, these random strangers displayed the sheep-like behavior that most people show in the face of authority and dispersed. Sad to see that opportunity had quite literally slipped just out of reach.
And then the other masked weirdo had the guts start talking to her. So what, one had a short fuse and the other was infatuated with her?
Adelle had this second masked man wrong. He explained that there had been a murder, and that Adelle's scream had bothered the other man. He also explained that he would be willing to pay her if she bothered him again.
"That's...definitely more than a little creepy. But he does owe me for scaring away my customers."
Her eyes scanned the man before her, contemplating what to say. And whether she could simply rob this man and escape. After all, no one could catch Adelle the Cat. And yet...she couldn't spot a good opening on this man. Maybe he had just thrown her thief instincts off with his mask and general strangeness.
"Fine, but I'll need some up front. How do I know you're not just trying to fool this innocent gal?" she whispered back, a little fear in her voice. Most of which was acting, but some of which rose from the fact that someone had been murdered in such a peaceful little place.
Missing a robbery was a blow to her pride. But missing a murder? True, she was not as familiar with that type of crime, but it was something much harder to cover up. She was genuinely worried. What if it was a group of murderers? Even her abilities would not necessarily help her come out alive if she was surrounded...
As her mind continued to make assumptions, another weirdo made his appearance and began examining the corpse. The stranger himself did not look particularly well-off himself, but he seemed oddly cheerful, poking at the body like a curious child.
Something about the way he moved stuck with Adelle...it was oddly familiar.
But this man could prove to be a serious short-term threat; he might take over her role of annoyance. Realizing she would have to forgo the down payment (in exchange for extra compensation later, of course), Adelle moved closer to the body and quickly went into action.
"Oh my god, he's dead! Somebody's dead! There's a murderer here! How could this have happened?!"
Yes, that would certainly be annoying enough for pay. But whether it would be annoying enough to out shadow this stranger...that she couldn't tell just yet.

((I think I'm breaking posting order, but I feel it'd be better to establish some sort of connection between Adelle and Iryoku))
Looking at the body with his good eye, Iryoku could only imagine how he died- at a first glance, it seemed to be by gunshot, though the visual clues should always be treated as deceiving. Mulling the thought over, he removed his tattered vest and covered the man's head and upper torso. A rather odd twist, considering his previous actions...but one that came naturally. Hearing a heavily acted voice cry out behind him, he stood and looked over his shoulder, eying the source with his good eye.
"BA-KA. Of course he's dead, and of course there's a murder- otherwise, there wouldn't be blood everywhere. And aren't you being a little redundant with your choice of exclamations, or are there motives fueling actions?" he asked softly, letting a cat-like smirk grace his face as he turned to face her. He had heard blank-face's request while observing from above- without a crowd to mask his words, only the most distracted people could have not heard him- such as angry-face.
Despite this, ill-intent nor foul play dare dictate his words. The sport of the situation was merely present- he had observed an opportunity to stretch out and play, and decided to play. And as an added bonus, it served as the perfect distraction against the much darker thoughts that floated on lonely streets. Besides, she was playing the game, and playing it expertly - there had to be room for more than one player on the stage.
"In all of my years of drifting, I have to say that this is shoddy police work I have ever seen- damn cops can't even disregard petty rivalry to respect and seek justice for the victim, or even protect his decency in death. I swear, I should beat them with their own masks until the Buddha himself stops me," he exclaimed, folding his arms over his chest and puffing out his lower lip in defiance, and added, in a lower voice so only the young woman could hear, "What do you think it'll take to squeeze a new set of clothes out of these guys and get you something something as well?" A faint twinkle in his eye and a barely noticeable cat-ish smirk were as good as a handshake in this situation.
When in doubt? Co-Op, share the loot, and enjoy general superiority in various aspects of being awesome. It was a win-win.

Behind the mask and beyond the skull, something in Jack's mind seemed to act up. It happened so suddenly, so subtley, that not even Bishop could see. It was the final nail in the coffin for Jack Ace. He had had enough with ther incompetence of petty civilians and officers. He had had enough of Bishop's "whining" over the right to investigate and take the case. He began to sweat and turn red with irritation. At that moment, if it hadn't had been for his current situation, he would've broken down into a fit of anger and yelled random gibberish. Something in his mind said otherwise.
What if... What if I could make Bishop so irate that it makes everything work in my favor? It would lead to a promotion for me and hopefully a demotion for our Ace Detective. Yes, it must be done, schemed the inanely-named detective, who gathered composure in an instant. He turned around to face Bishop, taking mental notes on the two "children". "Bishop. I've come to an agreement." The more sensible detective looked up and nodded off to Jack's statement. "I'm all ears, dude. What's up?"
"I'll leave the case, just like you asked, but," Bishop almost felt a jump for joy coming on, but that word came up in the end. Jack was such a buzz kill. "I'm not giving the case to you. Those two children will be conducting the investigation. You'll merely be there to provide minimal assisstance. I will be watching. The investigation ends in two days, so you better work quick, children." That bastard! How does he expect kids to conduct this investigation!? He's finally lost it... or... he's scheming something.
"... Fine. I'll agree, but if I have to, I'll jump in. I won't allow you to hinder justice." Jack simply chuckled and slipped under the security tape, giving a farewell wave and trotting off. Bishop stood there, watching as the investigator happily made his way around the corner. There really wasn't any use in crying over spilled milk, so, with a quick movement, Bishop slipped into the crime scene and turned around, waiting for the kids.
"Alright, kids. You heard the man. You're the new... Junior Investigators for this case. Once you're ready, just come under the tape and talk to me. I've got some things to tell you before we get started."
[OOC: Sorry for being a bit late, guys. I got sick and my throat's killing me, not to mention the throbbing headache. Anywho, Bishop will now be in BOLD speech. Now you're investigating the murder. Bishop will be there, though, giving guidance and answering a few questions along the way. I'll explain everything to you guys in my next post, so, I hope this will be a fun thread... Hopefully.]
