A certain C-mod who will not be named, *coughBrezzencough*, has brought to my attention the fact that I am in fact a character from another game.
This actually happened a while ago, but I've been busy and forgetful, so this thread's just coming up now.
Anywho, he wishes me to audition for Wonder Chef.
I say that I have no need to, as I've made up everything except his appearance, which I borrowed.
Well? May I have an executive ruling here please?

You couldn't audition anyway. The Tales series are Namco games.
... aren't they?

Executive ruling issssssss: Akito and High will deal with it.
Edit. Eventually. Not right now.
However, the likelihood that WonderChef will be revoked and/or deleted is high. As he is a namco game character, and even if he was a Squeenix character, you'd have to audition for him by a different official executive ruling.

So the problem here is that Wonder Chef is actually a canon from another game...? ._.

Yep. The initial problem was that there was no audition for WonderChef, then both Prythian and Hero brought it to attention recently that Tales of Symphonia is actually a Namco game.

But Wonder Chef is essentially a blank slate character. He has a name and a face and gives you food recipes when you find him hiding in places.
Its like is someone auditioned for a character named Naruto and gave them the appearance of Naruto from the anime but wrote their own original character besides that. Except less than that because Wonder Chef isn't a name, its just a title.

Homac, Bilby - I see your points, however he is still a character from another game. His ability disguise is even taken from the game, from what it looks like. I do see where you're coming from, but...
My thoughts on this are: 1. I don't know who takes care of the character rules, but they should clarify them (no matter what route is decided). As I understand it now, you are not, under any circumstances, allowed to take a character from any other game, unless you audition for it. 2. If he is allowed to stay, then that is almost telling anybody else that they can take a minor character from any other game and copy it.
I think that a fair compromise would be to either have Homac audition for Wonderchef, or have him completely overhaul the character so that he can keep the name, but the appearances and abilities are not the same. Either way, he would get to keep the character (assuming the audition is passed/the revised character is accepted), and Brezzen and anyone else who does not like this situation might hopefully be appeased.

This was fun. I almost never get to play devil's advocate AGAINST the rules. XD

So wait...can we still use pictures of real characters from other series for our characters?
Or is the problem that we can't use a combination of the character for both appearance and abilities?
For example, if you grabbed Train from Black Cat as your appearance but gave him a sword instead of a gun, is it good? Yet giving him a gun like he actually wields...isn't?

Jun - I'm no expert, but my initial response to that would be No, because it is still the character. I could be horribly wrong, so I'm gonna go check. I'll edit with what I find.
*EDIT* I couldn't find anything in the rules that say you can't, however I still personally don't like the idea of it. Think about it this way - I take a picture of Sora and say the only difference is that the fights with his fists, and not a keyblade. Now if they were together in the same room, somebody else who came in wouldn't initially know who was who (I am aware that this is an extreme case =P).
However, as I am not a Cmod and it is not stated in the rules, well... I guess it's okay. =/

I was thinking more along the lines of only taking characters from other series. Like for example I'm using a picture of Heath from Fire Emblem for my character. It's pretty unlikely that someone else will choose Heath to use as the appearance of their own character. Certainly possibly, but highly unlikely.
Modeling your character after an actual Kingdom Hearts character would be stupid though, I can see that.
I don't know, I mainly say this because I like having a physical picture of my character for avatar purposes and whatnot, and without being able to draw well, I have to get the picture from somewhere. And I'd feel bad if only my canon characters actually got pictures...

Well for avatars and sigs, I don't think there is a problem. For example, myself and Brezzen both have characters from outside things in ours, as do many other members. Unless of course I totally missed what you said on that part.
As for the other part, I am still unsure, so I guess someone in charge will have to answer that...

-sigh- I really don't like this.
As a Cmod, under the current rules, I will refuse to knowingly accept any characters from non-squeenix. Should that change, it'll be my duty to adapt to it, however much I won't like it.
So no. If you want your Train ripoff, or your Gourmet Wonderchef clone to be accepted, it won't be by my hand.
Minus the dramatic presentation of these ideas, that is my honest feeling.

Basically so long as reference pics are only used for sigs and avatars, everything is good?
By which I mean...I don't have to get rid of my sig?

No, you won't have to get rid of your signature. I personally wouldn't think that would be fair, as most everyone does that. In fact, the only people I've seen that don't have sigs/avatars like that are Dei and Sxaibran.
In short, Yes, you may use pictures for your signature and Avatar.
