Kadaj was alone in the conencting tunnels below Twilight Town, separated from his brothers. That was no matter. He could return to them at any time. Yazoo and Loz were both self-sufficient and knew what they were supposed to be doing. Right now, however, Kadaj felt as if he did not.
He crept through the shadows with a level of stealth most secret agents could only dream of thanks to his inhuman level of skill. Right now he leaned partially beyond a wall to peer into the streets ahead. Somewhere was his target. Kadaj was sure he hadn't fallen behind, but he didn't know yet what to think of his purpose here.

What was he doing here? There was no sign of Mother, Cloud never came here, and Sephiroth certainly had no allies to find. So what this feeling like he knew this place?
Much more importantly...why was he not alone in the tunnels. Sephiroth waited quietly in a wide tunnel, choosing to appear unarmed at the moment.

There he was. The silver-haired man again. Kadaj slunk back into the shadow of the passageway again, uncertainty dominating him. It was Mother's voice of course. He would take action like this for no other reason. But this time her voice felt different... uncertain? Or perhaps that was just Kadaj's confusion muddling his comprehension.
All he knew was that the darkness in this man called out to him through her voice. He had met others before who did the same... but never to this degree.
Behind Kadaj a Dusk appeared. Of course... these tunnels were the domain of many Nobodies who were just born, as was this world. Sensing the presence and turning Kadaj drew his Souba and dashed back into the tunnel, slashing the abomination away as quietly as he could.
But it probably wasn't quiet enough. Would the man come and look. The teenager faced the way he had been before and started to take slow steps backwards.

Sephiroth was growing tired of waiting. Whoever it was apparently wasn't afraid of trying his patience. "Mother...who is this that I should know? Yes, I should..." Sephiroth ended when he heard the slight sound of a sword colliding with a body. A sword very carefully used to make almost no sound. That was enough reason to not hold back.
"Let's test them Mother." Mother approved, Sephiroth knew it, and Sephiroth would meet his "acquaintance". Masamune appeared in hand and with a step he sliced through a section of the stone wall. Thankfully it was nothing too important for structural integrity.

"Grrr..."
Kadaj's teeth grit as a section of the wall near him was cleaved in half easily. His own body was thrown back in the opposite direction and pressed its back against the edge of the tunnel, facing towards Sephiroth.
'Why am I behaving so cowardly?' the child demanded of himself. He could cut though the wall just as easily could he not? Something about this man was different from his other targets.
Kadaj's Souba was held forward in his left hand, reverse grip style. He looked positively like a kid in over his head, but that wouldn't be the first time such a person stood with a weapon against Sephiroth.
"Who are you?" he asked suddenly. Strange that it wasn't the other way around.

Sephiroth felt a tinge in his gut. Something not like he was used to, or wanted, but a tinge. Had it been him, well he wouldn't have stalked behind Sephiroth quietly.
Silver hair, same eyes,...Sephiroth was amused. "What is this Mother? Have you given me" The boy in front of him interrupted Sephiroth, who otherwise ignored him. "...I'm sorry Mother, he's interrupting."
With a step forward Sephiroth got a better view. The weapon of choice was odd, a Souba, something Sephiroth was never quite sure was as useful as the appeal. Grisly wounds, but certainly breakable and difficult to maintain a focal point.
"Who am I?" That the boy asked shocked Sephiroth. "Look." He held Masamune at his side, a very well known blade, it was one of a kind. It's wielder's name went hand in hand with it. "Former SOLDIER, first class. That should be enough."

"What... a soldier?"
The boy who bore Sephiroth's eyes seemed to have no idea what the legendary hero was talking about, nor any knowledge of what his weapon should mean. Had he been born yesterday?
Had Kadaj heard him before right? had he said... mother!?

This was unsettling. Yes...it could happen, but Sephiroth didn't exist on the back side of some pebble. He had not taken a strong role in the Heartless and Nobody problems, but neither was he a welcome guest to all worlds.
"Who are you?" Sephiroth raised Masamune and narrowed his eyes. "Say it now."

"Kadaj."
What? Why on Earth had he answered like that? As if he had no choice? Kadaj hadn't even thought about refusing or hesitating... The surprise of his cooperation showed on his young face before it turned into a scowl. This boy clearly hadn't intended to be so forthcoming.

"Kadaj..." Sephiroth refused to change his pose, instead he pressed harder, not caring if he broke Kadaj's composure. "Where are you from?"
The longer this exchange had gone on, the more Sephiroth felt it was natural. Mother certainly had to be behind it all.

"I..."
The child bit his tongue, apparently ready for his own willingness to respond this time. Why couldn't he understand the voice that always drove his actions. This person... he made Mother so difficult to hear clearly.
He must be a threat!
"No!" he exclaimed immediately following the single word uttered before. Kadaj spun around and sliced through the stone behind him. It was no parting wall, layers of earth lay beyond it. Still his slice cut through deeply, reaching far beyond the actual length of his blade. His back to Sephiroth but his head turned to see Kadaj bent low as his left arm swept on until it pointed at the man. Somehow he had created a sucking force from his cut that drew out the stone and earth above his attack path causing chunks of broken tunnel wall and ground to come spewing out, sailing over him and towards the former first class SOLDIER.

Kadaj. Silver hair. You aren't a clone either.
When Kadaj struck the wall he nearly caused Sephiroth to attack, however for a moment he surprised him. When parts of the wall began to fly at him, Sephiroth was not amused.
As if it was a chose to bother with, Sephiroth deflected the bits of earth and stone with Masamune, a speed that certainly was un-human.
Tired of waiting, Sephiroth shot forward, dodging earth and stabbing Masamune into the wall just an inch. Right next to Kadaj's head. "Answer me. Where are you from?"

Where was he from? Perhaps it was the fact that Kadaj had no instant answer to give that made it possible for him to resist this particular line of questioning. He actually had to think about what to say, allowing his willpower the chance to act.
"It doesn't matter where I'm from!" he answered with the defiance that suited his apparent age. Sephiroth's absolute ability seemed to have caught him off-guard. Strange, considering that it was talent with a blade that he possessed as well.

This did not please Sephiroth. Kadaj was toying with him, or a waste of time. Though...perhaps...
Sephiroth removed Masamune from the wall and held it towards Kadaj. "Answer this question or I won't miss. Who is Mother?" Either Kadaj know what he was saying, or he was a waste of time.

Green eyes bulged. The teenager's throat was caught. No words could escape to answer... but the fact that it mean something tremendously dear to him was answer enough in itself.
This person... was he after information about Mother?! Did he want to stop her return?! Would it be better to die for her here than to reveal anything?!
If only he could hear her voice now. She always knew what to do...
