"Grown-ups never get in trouble," Emi said. But she knew it wasn't true. She'd just seen someone broken out of jail. That's where grown-ups went when they got in trouble, instead of a time-out or to bed without dinner. She thought hard for a moment, trying to remember why it was she thought that if she could do bad stuff without getting caught she would be an adult. She couldn't remember. It was just one of those misconceptions children develop for no reason other than their own imagination.
"No good... or bad?"
This confused her. She peeked over the cart at the damage Dilan had done to the survelliance bots and knew she had to decide now. Adventure or safety? Peace or battle? But if it was true what the pirate said, that there was no good or bad side, she couldn't get in trouble right? And he was telling her she needed to be tough and learn how to fight. She looked at her hands gripping the wooden cart, knuckles scrapped, palms dirty and callused. Raising a hand in front of her face, she curled it into a fist and said "That other kid is going, I want to go too. "
She whirled on a toe to face Vidrel.
"What does it take to be grown up? That's what I want! If I go with you and Mr. Dilan, maybe I'll find it! Maybe I'll learn to be tough and fight like you say!"
She gave a pert nod and sped out from behind the cart, wiping her arm across her face. She shouldered Vidrel out of the way and went to stand with Fi....

Vidrel ran his fingers through his hair. "Uh-oh... What'd I get myself into now? Babysitting isn't gonna work with me... he thought. The kid shouldered past him, and said something about wanting to learn what it means to grow up. "Kid, you're young. You sure you wanna do this? I'm not gonna go easy on you. I'm not going to help you if you get into trouble."
He turned around to face Dilan. "Alright. Let's get moving, then. Don't try anything on me, either. If you want to go here on some nice-guy mission to stop these guys, that's your business. I want something for myself. I'm not helping you either unless it gets me something nice." he said as he started walking towards him. "Lead the way."

Dilan smirked. Ah. How simple and easy these peons were to manipul-
The drone caught him flatfooted. Normally, he would have easily sensed it. However, in the middle of congratulating himself over a semi-deception well done, he ignored the drone until it slammed shot a needle his left arm. Instantly, the entire limb went numb.
The lancer groaned as he ripped the needle out. Of the many surveillance bots that had been dispatched, apparently they had seen fit to send the containers. Dilan had thought them still in production and design phase. No one was very comfortable giving robots poisonous needles. If they weren't calibrated exactly right what once paralyzed could turn lethal and no one knew how sophisticated a program could get without precise measurements. Witness: this needle should have paralyzed him completely, but he had apparently enough tolerance to withstand its affects... to a certain degree at least.
This wasn't good. "Run!" The lancer roared, and heeding his own advice, fled towards Shinra.

Fi gave a sharp nod to Dilan.
"Yessir, Mr. Dilan! Just lead the way!"
As they ran, he swatted the droid that had stabbed Dilan, which was floating back up, back into the ground so it wouldn't bother them.

Emi took off running behind Dilan and Fi, squelching fear and replacing it with a kind of primal fighting instinct. They were headed in the direction of Shinra and Emi wondered what kind of interesting things they were going to do....

As Dilan and the two kids ran, Vidrel pulled out three arrows, lighting them on fire. Taking quick aim, he fired towards the recently arrived bot. After he loosed the arrows, he put his bow away and took off after the rest of the group. "How much farther, Dilan? Looks like we're going to have a lot of resistance, so this better be worth it!" he shouted after them. He made it seem as if he was agitated, but in reality Vidrel enjoyed the turn of events. Maybe now this trip wouldn't be boring...

[ooc: we will make it to Shinra in my next post just in case you're wondering. xD]The cold was creeping up his arm. Hm. Not good. Looks like the tough had taken care of the other Containers, but while the mind-controlled minions were two kids and a thief, Dilan had no doubt that there would be dozens of the bots coming to hound them soon enough.
Good thing Shinra had its own special jurisdiction when it came to robotics.
"Not far-" the lancer called back grimly. "But don't stop - once we're there we'll be safe."
"Probably."

[OOC: Emi and Homac haven't posted, so I'm just gonna go ahead. I can delete this post if otherwise.]
Looks like this trip was about to get a lot better. They were almost there, and Vidrel was starting to look forward to breaking into this place. Who knew the various trinkets that would be there, considering that Shinra seemed to be a place of technological genious. Those bots were surely a sign that bigger and better things were inside. "So, you're not against me taking what I deem worthy, are you?" he asked. He didn't really care if he was or not, but he wanted to know whether or not he'd have to fight Dilan. He seemed like a pretty strong guy, but then again, he couldn't even get himself out of a prison...

Emi was doing a good job keeping caught up with her three new traveling companions. She hope what Dilan said about them being safe once they got in was true...
She just hope they could make in.
Vidrel asked if he (Dilan) would be against him (Vidrel) taking "what he deemed worthy".
Emi piped up with "I don't mind...". She really didn't. Shinra made her uncomfortable.

"Ain't nothing scarier than a bored and pissy Turk." Rude was doing the thing with his sunglasses. Reno sighed. Swore quietly. And then loudly because what the heck was he doing, swearing quietly? Guard shift had to be the stupidest, namby-pambiest excuse for PR on the shiny side of Radiant Garden. Come see the reformed Turks! Watch as they don't mangle you for looking at them weird.
If Ansem was lapping this up as Rufus thought he was, the king was going senile.
"Stop it, yo."
The bald man turned. Stopped polishing his glasses and put them back on his head where they belonged. Let out an interrogative grunt.
If there was one thing that Reno appreciated about Rude, it was his ability to talk without words. Hell, it wasn't just grunting - it was the pinnacle of communication. An evolution of eternal dot-dot-dots that could make the poets weep for its sheer expressiveness.
"Yeah, it's bugging the crap outta me, partner." He waved his baton carelessly at the taller man. "You know that."
Grunt of acknowledgment.
"Yeah, that's right - Woah!" Reno got up. A smile was plastered on his face, fake in that it didn't really express conventional happiness, but real in that it did express happiness. In a way.
Rude's stun baton was already out and crackling with electric potential. Four... exceptionally grimy and unusual persons had arrived. One was, if he wasn't mistaken, the Castle's street kid poster child. The other three were downright outta place. Two children and one guy who looked like he'd just arrived fresh off the boat or plane or something.
"Now, what have we here...?"

The moment they entered the Shinra perimeter, the Containment units buzzed off. Dilan let out a sigh of relief. He hadn't been absolutely sure - but had suspected, for a while, that Shinra was doing illegitimate stuff. They probably had some sort of cloaking field deployed that wouldn't affect routine sweeps, but hid people from thorough investigation. Shaaaaady stuff. But handy.
Buzz and crackle. Electro-Mag Rod. Buncha settings, and most could charbroil chicken. Nasty. And only one group carried them.
Turks.
Dilan felt a growl build up in his throat. Suppressed it, but only just.
"Now what have we here...?"
Red hair. Insufferable smirk. Smug like a snake.
"Reno," Dilan acknowledged politely. He deftly put his injured arm out of the line of fire and tried to appear as naturally at ease as possible. Probably failed. The Turks had beaten him once when he'd still been a kid. Reno had been the one who had ordered it. A... bit of bad blood existed between the two of them.
Dilan pretended they had never met. He'd never been one for grand plans. He was here and now he needed to get in. Simple.
"Mind if we waltz around inside? I'm with a tourist group and-"
The bald guy, whose name Dilan had never learned his name, actually chuckled. Reno looked momentarily outraged.
Then the redhead shrugged. "No can do -" he snapped out his own stun baton. "'Fraid that's not how things work around here anymore. We're security guards. We guard stuff, yo."
He pointed at Dilan and Orange.
"But tell you what. Put up a good fight and we'll give you guys passes, alright? Gotta reward citizens going out of their way to entertain us poor Tu- security guards..."

Fi had simply followed Dilan where he led, he knew that the elder dragoon would know what to do.
When the group was confronted by the security, in truth Turks, but Fi didn't know that, and was told they had to fight, he knew that even Dilan might be hard pressed in a two on one.
"Uh, Mr. Dilan? Can you take these guys?"
Fi knew he could jump in, but those electric rods didn't look nice for anyone they touched.

Ah, some resistance. When Dilan had entered the perimeter of the Shinra building, the drones stopped targeting them, so they probably wouldn't fight them any longer. But these guys... Well, Dilan had stopped running, so they probably weren't people to ignore. Dilan even knew the red haired one, judging by the usage of his name. Maybe there was some history behind these two? No matter for now, 'Reno' had challenged them to a fight. Oh, how this would be interesting.
He heard the small dragoon ask if Dilan could take this. No, no. Dilan wouldn't be getting the glory for this one. At least, not alone. "Dilan, eh? Forgetting someone?" he asked the kid, summoning his bow. "Stay outta my way, kid. If you get hurt, it's your own fault." Vidrel looked at the red-head. "Hey! If it's a fight you want, come and get it! Don't just stand there!" he shouted. He grabbed two arrows, and put a flame in his hand. Lighting the arrows, he sidestepped enough to avoid hitting Dilan, and took aim. "So. What's it gonna be?"

"..." Rude blinked. It was invisible behind the shades, but it was still quite the lapse in control - not quite as dramatic as his erstwhile chuckle, granted, but still a lapse. Bow and arrow. Arrows. Long, pointy sticks that were only slightly more dramatically medieval than swords because the contemporary version of the sword was the vibroblade - and those things had the odd tendency to explode without warning. First-Class SOLDIERS still used swords. Oversized, perhaps, but still obviously swords. As Reno might put it-
"Yo partner, the guy's threatening us with arrows. Arrows. Heh heh ha-"
Despite the fact Reno was chortling away, the redhead's attention had suddenly fixated upon the archer with an intensity that was outright vicious. People tended to underestimate Reno. He was too flamboyant, too arrogant, too cocksure of himself to be as good a fighter as he claimed he was.
And that's where people made their mistakes. Reno was a package fighter. The act was part of how he got under your skin, made you wince and then want to kick his front teeth in. People who got riled got beat. Simple as that. And even if they didn't... well, if the redhead wasn't as good as he claimed, he still came pretty close. Almost as good as Rude himself.
Reno stopped laughing.
The accord was sudden and silent. Reno broke to the right towards the archer, Rude to the left towards Dilan. The bald Turk glanced at the children, but judged them to be bystanders. The lancer was prepared for the attack, dodged the first blow but ooomf'd at the follow-up kick that sent him sailing backwards by a few feet.
He turned to see Reno-

The two guards charged. The bald one went for Xaldin, and seemed to get a pretty good kick in, judging by how fast he flew back. That meant 'Reno' would probably come for him. Sure enough, here he came. Vidrel loosed the arrows at him, and threw the bow as well. It was durable enough to take a beating, he hoped. He readied himself for combat with the redhead. This was going to be tough, Reno had a baton while Vidrel was going to be fighting hand to hand. No problem, though. He could handle it... Maybe.
As Reno closed in, Vidrel encased his gloved hands in fire. If he managed to get a hit, it would burn, at the very least. Reno was no doubt a man to be reckoned with, but every man had a weakness. You just had to find it. He threw a punch as Reno got within range. They could do this... Right?
