"It's a simple assignment, Dilan," Ansem said reasonably. "I know you can do this."
The old man was laying it on a bit thick today. While his wise and grandfatherly airs might have had the populace fooled, the King's apprentices were somewhat inured to his acting. After all, it was rather difficult to take someone who ate sea salt Popsicles in the presence of foreign dignitaries very seriously.
"You want me to stay in jail." Dilan replied, quite certain that the old man had forgotten where he was again. It tended to happen when he hadn't had the usual kingly siesta. "Me. In jail."
"You wouldn't be if you hadn't lost your temper and attacked that poor fruit stand." Ansem noted, wagging his finger. "Do try to make sure it doesn't happen again." Waiting for a reply, he huffed in annoyance as Dilan turned his back and pretended the King didn't exist.
As the cell door closed shut, Dilan sighed. One night. Just one freaking night.
Yeah. He could do this.

Sailing through the stars, the Dragon's Disgrace was quite a sight. It wasn't the largest ship, but it was quite large, and quite fast for its size. On board, many crewmembers were running around trying to accomplish varying tasks; some to slow the ship, some to prepare for docking, while still more were just busy cleaning. One man in particular, however, was overseeing the storage of weapons, and the care of the cannons to either side of the ship. He was a fairly tall person, seeming to not care about whether the others helping him were talking or not. His name was Vidrel Lyphrem, Gunner of the Dragon's Disgrace.
As the ship docked at this new world, the Captain (who kept his identity a secret to most everyone; not even his first mate knew who he really was) barked orders to everyone - "Get t' shore, lads and lassies! Bring us back some o' that fine loot hidden in the caves to the north! The one bringin' back th' most will get extra eatins!" As per usual, Vidrel disregarded the Captains orders; Vidrel followed his own agenda. Whatever he fancied, he would do, but of course he would have to bring back something so as not to have the Captain fire him. Vidrel headed to town, he was sure to be able to get something there.

This was unbelievable.
Un. Freaking. Believable.
Yuffie had, officially, disgraced the title of 'Ninja'. Sure, she'd done it unofficially before, but this... this was just sad.
She was in prison.
Why?
Well she'd gotten caught smacking around some old lady who'd looked at her funny. Don't get the wrong idea, she wouldn't have done it without provocation. But she'd gained this rather irrational fear of the elderly after a certain experience with some weird dude with sideburns. And this lady was both old and had stranger, which, of course, made her look almost identical to that man from long ago.
So here she was, locked in a freakin' cell. A ninja! Locked in a cell! How much worse could things possibly get? But of course, in thinking this, she had pretty much screwed herself over. The door opened, a man stepped in, and the door was closed once more. The fact that she now had a cellmate was bad enough.
But what made it worse was that it was none other than sideburns-guy.
Worse, but a whole lot more interesting.

Bad post. Sorry! [/size]

"Emi-cha~n, don't make me do this." The petite red-haired boy pulled on his friend's hand and begged her to stop. One swipe of Emi's long leg shut up him for a few seconds.
"We talked about this, Kei," said the tall seven-year-old. The two children were standing atop a windy hill in Radiant Garden. One was looking for mischief and the other was begging her to stop.
"We talked about this. If we want to be grown up... we have to learn how to do bad things and not get caught."
It surely was a testament to the life these two children had seen if that is what a seven-year-old girl thought to be the picture of an adut.
The two orphans were doing what they did most everyday, which was roam the town looking for entertainment. After lessons of course. Emi stuck out her tongue at the thought of schooling. Kei reached over and tugged on pink sticking out between her lips and Emi backhanded him in the face and hopped to her feet. While Kei was holding his nose and bawling, Emi took off running down the hill. Running downhill of course, is a bit tricky to do, especially with long legs, but Emi kept her balance all the way down and skidded into the the town. And she kept running, fluffy black hair bouncing with every hard step. She blew past towns people, leaving a wake of disturbance and annoyance. She grinned to herself, morbidly delighted in irritating the towsfolk.
Radiant Garden was presently a happy sunny little bustling town. The glorious castle was visible in the distance. Emi looked to it longingly, wondering what it must be like to live there. But the castle wasn't enough to keep her entertained. She was looking for trouble. She ducked behind a corner, peering out, pushing her windblown hair out of her face with one hand and scanning the town center for possible fun...
That's when she saw it. Her little face lit up. The city jail, of course! There was all sorts of potential for fun there. Think about how mad Miss Kagabu would be if she was found talking to hardened criminals! Emi acted cool, put her hands in the pockets of her too-big white denim shorts and proceeded to walk to the little grate where the people locked inside could look out and see what they were missing. She pushed a crate from the side of the building around, because even though she was tall for her age, she wasn't quite big enough to see through the grate yet... she pushed it under the grate with a little grunt and then hopped up and peered inside...

"Are you lost?" A woman around the age of eighteen asked the young seven year old. "You look so afraid for some reason. This isn't a place for children." her brown eyes smiled along with her lips. "Why don't I take you home?" she offered the young child her hand. "It's not safe around here." She fixed the long braid that went down her shoulder behind her ear while her long brown hair blew in the wind slightly.
"My name is Star." she said putting her hand to her chest. Her shirt was brown and plaid with a matching dark tan skirt. Her black boots clanked together. "Or do you have someone in this prison you're meeting?" although she highly doubted that.

Fortunately for the jail, its population and the four blocks that were closely connected to it - Dilan completely ignored the jail's other occupants believing them to be nothing more than riff-raff and useless fools.
Because, really. If he ever met up with that she-witch that had so brutally mangled his sideburns he'd burn Radiant Garden to the ground, research or no research, King or no King, Apprenticeship or no Apprenticeship.
Nobody touched the sideburns.
A shadow fell through the prison window. Dilan perked up, making his way to the barred window. "Hey, kid!" The lancer said, trying to feel more confident than he actually felt. What the heck. Another kid. Had he ever been that young? "Do you think you could get me something sharp?"
He was rudely interrupted by some meddling adult who he tried to make a scary face at. Go away! He said, attempting to use hitherto unknown psychic powers. Leave! Or... wait! Stay! And bring me sharp things!

Walking through the town, Vidrel recieved many looks, most of which were disapproving in the nature. "Heh. Go ahead, keep staring. I'm not changing for you people." He chuckled as he said this; anyway, why was he even showing a response to these people? They didn't affect him in any way. "Now... Where would I go to look for something of value... I've never been here before. Maybe the local troublemakers would know..." As he finished his thought, he entered a local shop and asked for the location of the jail. He feigned that he had a relative to visit, and easily acquired the information.
As he neared the jail, He saw a little girl standing on a crate, staring into the window. She, however, was not looking in for very long, as a lady came up and appeared to be trying to persuade her to leave. Vidrel seemed like he didn't care, but deep inside was concerned for this girl. Why was she associating herself with these people at such a young age? Heh. Didn't matter. It wasn't his business. He walked up to the same grate the girl was standing by. "Little girl, Move. You shouldn't be around here anyway." he said firmly. Turning into the window, he asked loudly, "I need someone to direct me to the nearest mansion or other storage of valuables. Any volunteers?"

Emi stared each one of the adults trying to get her to leave straight in the face.
"I'm not leaving. And I'm not moving either. So shut up and leave me alone," she growled, stomping her foot. She stood solidly on the crate, an unmovable force...
She reached into her back pocket and rubbed the edge of her tiny pink pocket knife, and smiled...
Now, just to get these stupid grown-ups out of the way... she pulled the knife out of her pocket and brandished it at Star and Vidrel.

Star tapped her foot against the ground. "A pink pocket knife.." she glanced over at Vidrel as he seemed to just appear. "How about you put the knife up?" she suggested crossing her arms. "You could get into some really bad trouble talking so tough, little girl." it was pretty sad that a seven year old even was breaking into a jail. Oh how much she was tempted to spank the little prick in front of her. Her short fuse was hit when the actual knife came out. Reaching forward quickly and swiftly, she grabbed Emi's arm. "Drop the damn knife."

Dilan blinked.
His hitherto unknown psychic powers were working. First the girl had found something sharp, and now the adult-lady-person was trying to get her to drop it towards his fine little self.
He hadn't the faintest clue who the tough-guy was (or why he thought there was treasure to be found) but assumed he'd make an excellent guinea pig too.
You want to spring me from this jail cell... you totally want to spring me from this jail cell...

Firrero Shien, eight year old dragoon-in-training, was currently walking through the city of Radiant Garden. This wasn't a normal occurence for the quiet boy, as he preferred to stay within the training compound.
Today though, he'd decided to take a walk after his training.
He'd simply wandered around, until he found a few people crowding around the window of, of all things, the jail.
Fi, like most young kids, was curious, and managed to haul himself up to another window to see...
"Mr. Dilan? Is that you? Why are you in jail?"
It was baffling to him why a great dragoon like Dilan would ever be put in jail.

"Foolish girl. You know not what you're getting into." He really wasn't enthused about defending himself from a little girl, but if it had to be done he would. "Listen to this woman. Drop the knife." He turned to the grate. Looking inside, he saw a man intently focused on... Well, he couldn't see what he was focused on, though he assumed their wasn't anything in the cell. However, judging by the man's clothing... This was the one that would lead him to treasure. "You there. I will break you out of here and promise to cause you no harm if you complete a simple task. Take me to a place where valuables may be found. My captain requires it." His captain required it? Since when did he care? Whatever. He'd pick something up for himself as well... He didn't plan to keep the Captain around very long anyway. As for the promise of a safe trip... Well, Vidrel wasn't going to attack him unless struck first. As for someone else... Well, that was his problem.

Star looked from Emi to the man next to her. "Are you really going to help a prisoner out?" she asked letting Emi's arm go.

Hoooooly fudge, Dilan thought excitedly, It's working!
Not only had he managed to subvert and conquer the will of the thieving peon in front of him, but his call had managed to attract the attention of another well-wisher! His talents in the art of mind control were prodigious!
(Granted, all he had managed to attract was yet another child. But oh well, he'd work on that aspect later.)
Unfortunately, his moment of inattention cost him control over the lady-adult. She promptly stopped asking the little girl to drop the knife. So be it.
"Yeah, sure." He told the tough.
To the little kid who'd be putting a serious dent in his reputation if he told the town that one of Ansem's pupils was jail-breaking:
"I'm not the Dilan you're looking for."
He finished it off with a little arcane flourish. Yeah. That'd make it work for sure.

Vidrel had seen the child approaching, but ignored him. That is, he ignored him until he stopped and spoke to the man. Dilan? So that was the man's name. No matter. He hadn't planned to call him by name anyway. Wait... The man had told the boy he wasn't Dilan. Maybe he had something to hide? Heh. Vidrel could just use it against him if he got problematic. What was with all these kids anyway? "You, in the cell... Stand back. You, child. I suggest you move, lest you get hurt." Vidrel's hands started to glow, and he turned and walked about 10 feet back. Raising his right hand, he fired a massive blast of fire at the wall, making it glow with heat. Quickly, he pulled out an arrow and summoned his bow. Changing stances, he focused on the center of the heated wall, and pulled the string back.
As he loosed the bow, he focused energy into the tip, and when the arrow hit the wall, the arrow exploded into a flash of light. The wall itself was broken in many places, though not thoroughly smashed. To finish the job, Vidrel walked up to it, putting his gloves on. When he reached the wall, he punched it as hard as he could, knocking enough of the wall down for the man to come through. "Lead the way. We most likely don't have very much time."
[OOC: Homac, currently Vidrel is unmoderated, the attack wasn't meant to be hostile. Just hopefully avoiding a conflict =p]
